Eh, I could see it. In your analogy, I'd have government surveillance be an STD. Unless you use protection, consent alone won't cut it (though it helps, since you're picking your partners... Except the dating pool in this area is pretty abysmal).

What I'm saying is that you should get a virgin wiretap, and wait until marriage.

Eh, it's more like inviting the rapist to live in your home and asking him occasionally to play music and look things up in the encyclopedia. I mean, yeah, there's the whole rapist thing, but as far as you can tell he hasn't actually raped anybody in the house yet, and it's really handy to have him for the music and whatnot... besides, he might not even actually ever rape anyone! Probably not..

This is literally true of any husband or boyfriend (or person, really).

I don't think so, this is more along the lines of a complete stranger, not someone you've built a relationship with based on trust and affection. And I mean, we already all know google logs *everything* and sells the monetizable parts, so they've got a history.

Well, I just read it on a first pass as being about a potential rapist, which describes pretty much everyone. I think you had more in mind that you were implying that didn't come through on my first read.

Oh yeah, the metaphor is definitely for a confirmed rapist. The kind that says "well, you know, it wasn't RAPE rape. We here at Big Data take your privacy concerns seriously and yadda yadda yadda..."

You'll never convince me that the first license plate wasn't made intentionally, or at least multiple people in the process saw it, made the connection, snickered, and sent it on anyway.
