Another coworker is quitting, hot on the heels of the Wookiee's departure. It's the only male salesweasel we had left, an older guy I think I've mentioned before (in particular, his worrying lapses of memory in light of his family's history of Alzheimer's). He told me on the DL he's going to another sales job that pays more in base than he's making here for base and commission combined.
Good for him. I'm glad both that he's getting a better deal (ownership here really needs to learn to pay people to fuckin' stay, IMO), and that he's gonna be out of my hair. Seriously, not a week has gone by where this guy hasn't made life more difficult for me because he didn't do something he thought he did. I mean, I don't hold it against him because it's not his fault (as I said, I worry for and pity him, mostly) and he doesn't do it intentionally, but I am glad to not have to deal with it any more.
Now if only they can replace him with someone who has negative quirks of lesser magnitude.... I say, knowing full well that THAT doesn't happen.
Every time I post something like this, one of you guys says "So you're hiring?
" or something like that, but let me just say, you don't want this job. Like I said, getting paid what you're worth is a problem. There are only two salespeople who have gone the distance since I started here 14 years ago. The first is a grandma-housewife who has been doing this job for 30+ years, has all the agency connections, and doesn't actually need the money anyway (just does it to have something to do), and the other got promoted to sales manager and then general manager. Every other salesperson, every SINGLE BLESSED one of them, has quit or been fired. And usually, the ones that quit have done so because they couldn't make ends meet on what they were getting paid here.
And that's saying something, given that Texas has an extremely low cost of living.
