Movie News & Miscellany

I'm too worried about spoilers to follow that thread. I know most put that in correct tags, but still. Thanks. A good couple of endorsements.
It was more like I couldn't tell if you had somehow genuinely missed the discussion in the other thread, since we had talked for so long about it already.

I don't see Han Solo as a main character, so I think the premise is flawed from the get-go. Can't watch the RLM video right now, but if they reference Jack Sparrow and the mistake it was to make him the center of any movie, I'd agree.

Yeah, he's like that one cool kid in high school who hangs around with some nerds. He's genuinely friends with them, but no one's sure why. He also genuinely wants to bang the nerdy chick in the group.

I've already voiced my opinion about the han solo movie. I haven't changed my mind - at all. Were Lando and Han laugh-a-minute bosom buddies in ESB/RotJ? Nope. So, why start now? They're trying to make it GotG. At this point, I hope the whole thing implodes and they don't release it.

I suspect the tone is shifting away from GotG now that Ron Howard is directing. The slapstick tone was the main reason that the previous directors were fired.

A Doctor Doom solo film could be good if you did it right. For example, tell the story of how he became the ruler of Latveria, starting from his birth into poverty, the tragedies that befell him, his forays into sorcery and technological enhancement, the accident that disfigured him, and how he eventually took over the country. Portray his drive, his ego, his unflinching belief that everything he does is truly for the greater good. Turn him into a conflicted anti-hero, where audiences can understand his motivations even if they don't necessarily agree with his methods.

There wouldn't necessarily have to be a main antagonist, it'd be more like a biographical film, sort of like how The Aviator charted Howard Hughes's life from his childhood onwards, or A Beautiful Mind told the story of John Nash's life with schizophrenia.

But since this is Fox and they've shown they completely don't get Victor von Doom, I expect it'll be a disaster.

Anybody seen Baby Driver yet? Has good reviews.
The first 6 minutes of the movie are up now on youtube. If you're on the fence about it, it doesn't really reveal anything plot wise and is pretty damn entertaining.

I've watched it a few times and it just makes me want to see the whole thing again.

Right. There's a six-issue mini-series that I still need to read that tells his origin and could probably be of use. Thing is, they can't tell Doom's story without Reed Richards. And to only tell his origin is to leave out some of what makes him a big deal.

The kind of movie you're describing would be a huge risk, because while Deadpool and Logan were different kinds of movies, both were mid-budget and both had the successful X-Men franchise to stem from. Doctor Doom solo would be truly on its own, as it couldn't rely on any Fantastic Four stuff.

So yeah, they're probably going to fuck it up.

Thanks for the extra clip, though since that OP (And before your post) we went and saw it. We enjoyed it.

This movie has @LittleKagsin written all over it.[DOUBLEPOST=1500682049,1500681759][/DOUBLEPOST]

The guy listed as developing it also wrote (or was story editor) for Bones, and that show was horrible at writing smart people.

Apparently the lead of Star Trek Discovery is Spock's half sister. You know the one, the sister he's never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, not once, ever mentioned.

Executive in charge man Alex Kurtzman says there will be a super duper neato reason for that.

GOD DAMN YOU ALEX KURTZMAN. WILL STAR TREK NEVER BE FREE OF YOU AND ORCI! FUUUUUUUUCK. YOOOOOOOOOU!

I've never been more anti-hyped by a piece of news before.

Is she trying to find the center of the universe too?

Well, there was also that half brother he never mentioned in another movie... I think Spock just doesn't associate with his siblings
