Gas Bandit's Political Thread V: The Vampire Likes Bats

March on Google

Take this with huge a grain of salt, as I haven't researched it myself for lack of time (feel free to look into it and correct me, please!), this comes from a friend.
The alt-right is staging nine more protests this Saturday. The cities involved are Atlanta, GA, Los Angeles, CA (Venice Beach), Pittsburgh, PA, Seattle, WA (Kirkland), Mountain View, New York City, Washington DC, Austin, and Boston. (..) [They] are protesting the firing of the Google employee who sent that anti-diversity memo. The events are not tied to Charlottesville though they share some organizers and speakers.

Football was a big deal from Junior High on. Apparently, so were steroids for some guys. By junior year a couple of them had bulked up so much they looked like they's had an air hose jammed up their ass.

(There's more, but in deference to others here who don't deserve to be caught in the same net as this particular asshole from my youth, I'll leave it there.)

This is what happens if you let the Death Eaters raise Neville Longbottom.

So nazis are the worst. Hard to imagine that this needs to be said.

Onwards to new controversy, why are kids still allowed to play full on, geared up, tackle football?

My grandfather, my dad, and Mr. Z have all played football (either high school, college or pro), and they all said the same thing: Li'l Z is not allowed to play football. Frankly, I'm cool with that decision.

Interesting article over at The Rebel: Ezra Levant’s staff memo on the alt-right

Many paint them with the same brush as Breitbart, but this is a clear "we stand for this, and against that" article by their founder, who BTW is a Jew. Very clearly distancing themselves from even the alt-right label, and though it shouldn't need to be said (given again, Jew), away from Nazis as well.

It's worth a read IMO.

And FYI: at least some of the video you're seeing covering the "actual impact" is theirs. One of their reporters was in the middle of the BLM/Antifa crowd/protest interviewing them when the car rammed through them. She was about 10 feet (maybe less) from the impact when it happened.

Right; both suck, neither is optimistic, and @lien, you were asked for clarity a couple times before stating your basis for comparison.
Pfft, the real pessimist views everyone less pessimistic as an optimist...

You're talking about the recruits.

I'm not actually. Shouldn't have put "(or even tolerate)" in parentheses.

But i was also not talking about the ones that embraced the full on supremacy stuff, the ones that voted for Trump after all he said (but without using any directly racist words) are just as complicit, and what i was getting at with the "right words" thing.[DOUBLEPOST=1502741970,1502741841][/DOUBLEPOST]

I'm going to have to disagree with you there. See: slavic nazis.

Richard Spencer can't be in nine places at once, so maybe he's hoping his puncher will guess the wrong one.

(I'm assuming Spencer is out of jail at this point; I could be wrong.)

Oh fuck off. "We can't even be sure the people who were carrying Nazi flags weren't agents provocateur" Nobody is desperate to paint them as Nazis, they are proclaiming themselves Nazis. Then he paints the fucking alt-right as equal to black rights matters. Ezra Levant, still scum. Calls pedophile defender Milo Yiannopolis adorable and lovable. As though he's just a scamp, what a fucking rascal he is.

Now that the alt-right has been outted as LITERAL nazis, and it looks really, really bad, these fucking snakes are trying to claim, oh we're not nazis. They still have people like Gavin "I'm finding myself defending nazis/Proudboy Canadian racist/I can't be racist, my boss is jew!" McInnes on staff.

Then claims they're the only honest reporters because other news agencies want to use their footage. The only reason they want it is because your piece of shit reporter was there, complaining about how the counter-protesters were being allowed to march "luckily" while some nazi fuck plowed into them.

A perspective I had not considered.

The American Conservative: Confederate Nehushtan
excerpt said:
Those of you who want his statues to remain don’t need to defend them from the Left — you need to defend them from the alt-Right! They are the ones who are ruining any chance you have for keeping them.

If there are so many of who are not racist who honestly honor Southern culture and heritage so much, why wasn’t there a giant protest group in Charlottesville, pushing away the Nazis while chanting “heritage, not hate”? Why did you leave the opposition to the Left?

I’ll tell you why. It’s the same reason that the Confederate flag became associated with racism in the first place. It’s because a great many of you, all protestations to the contrary, secretly support the racists. I know too many who say “heritage, not hate” and belong to the League of the South, or who subscribe to American Renaissance, including people in my own family.
Most of you who support Southern heritage are just a little bit less racist than the Nazis in Charlottesville. You would probably say that you aren’t racist, yet you probably would prefer that a black family not live next door to you. You would be less likely to hire a black person for a job, and you definitely wouldn’t want your child to marry a black person, but you don’t think of yourself as racist.

And that’s why the Confederate flag has become verboten by our culture, and why the monuments are coming down. Because of you and people like you.

US Government wants activists details.

The Department of Justice wants information on visitors to a site which organised protests on the day of Trump's inaugaration. The warrant is here. Basically visit a site critical of Trump & the government wants to know who you are, where you work, your telephone numbers & email addresses, and your credit card & bank account details.

That's some real anti-democratic authoritarian level shit there.

I agree this is bad shit.

I do not agree that this is as bad as you say. In such societies that are actual authoritarian governments (China, Cuba, UK is going that direction with the Snooper's Charter and such) they ALREADY KNOW all the sites you go to all the time. They don't need a warrant to get it.

It's shitty they're even asking. Be glad they HAVE to ask... for now.

That's a weird response.

Ya, but I mean I used to be more concerned with digital privacy. Now I'm a lot more "SOMEBODY has it all anyways. Unless you're using Tor, you're fucked, so just don't worry about it" most of the time.

The other side of that is that there's a tendency to see everything government does related to the internet as totalitarianism. REAL such things are like China (Where do you start with them? Great Firewall, Golden Shield, that spyware they're making all non-Han types in eastern china install on their phones, gamifying being loyal (the true horror of this was analyzed by the Extra Credits channel), and probably a lot others I don't have links for), and that system that Libya was using (from a USA contractor IIRC) prior to overthrow... and maybe now too. My google-fu is failing to find that one right now.

So it's more of a "you don't know how bad it really gets" as well. ANY slide towards that however is bad.

[DOUBLEPOST=1502849320,1502848951][/DOUBLEPOST]Ladies and Gentlemen: The words of Confederate General Robert E. Lee:

And a whole lot of those monuments only got raised when civil rights laws/amendments got passed, not in any 'honor' of the confederacy.
And one of the reasons they are crumpling like fucking tissue paper is because these "Lost Cause" era monuments were made as cheaply as possible for mass production. The one that just went down was basically a thin layer of sheet metal.

I'm going to have to disagree with "I’ll tell you why. It’s the same reason that the Confederate flag became associated with racism in the first place."

The reason why that particular flag is used is because it's the one of the many the Confederacy had that racists decided to use to represent them.
Unless I'm misreading, you just rephrased what the author said. The battle flag went from a military/national symbol to a racist one because racists use(d) it.

Point was that it wasn't a national symbol, it was one flag amongst many, and it only became THE symbol for the south because some racists recognized it as one of the better designs (except the original was more square, which makes sense as a battle flag).

It wasn't one flag among many, though. The battle flag (and, consequently, any other flag with it as a device) was the Confederacy's main symbol from what I've read (your earlier Wikipedia link did not dispel this notion).

I still don't understand your disagreement with the author.
