Funny Pictures Thread. It begins again

I love how it was conceived as a funny parody of Star Trek but he keeps "accidentally" tackling social issues, like when you do a space show you just can't help it.

Yeah, but your argument applies to most of the crew of the TNG Enterprise, too, when it comes down to it.
Not as egregiously. There's leaning on the wall and then there's hitting it with a sledgehammer. Orville is so far beyond the pale that it's beyond shattering the suspension of disbelief, for me it's downright unwatchable.

Was it conceived as a parody? Or did he just sell it that way to the executives, and then did what he actually wanted as soon as the pilot was over?

That show is awful.
Is it any worse then s1 of TNG?

And of course, it's Seth MacFarlane, it's a wonder the crew is competent at all, i don't know what you where expecting...

Just because I knew it was likely to be bad doesn't mean it isn't bad, or that it gets a pass for being bad because its creator is known for creating bad things.

I was implying that your expectations of a competent crew where at odds with MacFarlane's style... the fact that you dislike that part of his style simply means you're not an objective critic of his work.

Of course, i don't actually see you complaining about Futurama's crew being horrible at deliveries, and asking why they aren't bankrupt yet...

I put "accidentally" in quotes for a reason.

Yes, but that left room for it to still be a parody, since there's nothing to stop someone from doing both in the same show...

That's because the context is completely different. One of my main complaints about The Orville is it can't decide what kind of show it wants to be. If it WAS 100% played-for-laughs, I wouldn't have a problem with it, but it keeps grinding the gears as it tries to shift between madcap zaniness and anvilicious soapboxed SRS BZNS. In Futurama, the entire world is an incompetent pastiche. In The Orville, from what we've seen, it's just MacFarlane and his crew, who somehow get a pass while the rest of the universe plays the straight man.
