Kinda? I mean, the pictures/bodies are from the later years at Hogwarts, so the cast of Clueless would be more accurate. They would have only been 10 or 11 years old when these outfits were popular. I'm pretty sure that promo photo is season 2 of 90210.

As someone who didn't watch the Superbowl, and knows very little about Spongebob, is there any hope for me to understand all the memes? or even what actually happened?

It's really not all that interesting. Basically, the internet thought that this whole Spongebob song was gonna be played at halftime, but instead they used a 10 second clip to introduce a rapper.

Figures it would be just your average bait & switch. People are talking like they were promising the missing part of some unfinished symphony.

I mean, there was a huge online petition that had over a million signatures, and they seemed to "oops spoil" it on Twitter, but it was basically fake. So yeah, it's not something super amazingly awesome, but it was definitely a way to trick internet nerds into watching the superbowl.
