My previous laptop that I bought in 2007 still works, it's just sitting on my shelf doing nothing. You can have it if you want.
I appreciate that, but I'd prefer a newer one. I have a netbook that's served well enough, but it's also kinda slow. Which, for a 6+ year old, well used netbook, is probably to be expected.

Might be for the best, anyway... even though it's old, it was still a gaming laptop, and was able to play anything up through Borderlands 1 reasonably well, so the temptation would have been there.

The only downside to possibly selling my gaming rig is no longer being able to play higher-end games. Very unlikely I could still play, say, Cities Skylines, since that's pretty demanding, especially with a lot of mods. Or playing higher-end games I'll still get through Humble Bundle Monthly since I paid for a year-long membership.

On the other hand, I could also create more living space by getting rid of my computer desk. And I'd save money by no longer buying any more big games. Still buy and play some indie games on a laptop, though; I did that for years and had a PS3.

If you think you'll still need it for computing tasks (writing, banking, etc) you could just sell the GPU and limit yourself to the onboard graphics (if present) or swap in something like a GT330.

Lover of portmanteaus that I am, when I discovered this...

https://www.punchlinedesign.net/pun_generator/

...I immediately thought I would seed it with two of the most noisome words I could come up with. So I put in "moist" on the first line and then petitioned my wife for an unpleasant word. With no coaching, she came up with "perineum." Its fields thus filled, it spat back "swampynile," "mucosacculent," and "urethrunny."

Eww.

I've finally reached the age where I might be too old for some girls. There's a waitress (early 20s) at the Greek restaurant down the street. I've been there a few times and we can spend a long time talking about Thrones and Harry Potter. Anyways, I asked if I could get her number and got turned down. Of course I took it with grace but I've realized I'm not as young as I used to be. This isn't in the whine thread because I'm not even upset. It's funny more than anything else.

I honestly hope I get a simple fast food job soon, minimum wage working in a fast food restaurant sounds VASTLY better than minimum wage as a Postmate. One involves staying in the same warm location for a set number of hours, the other involves facing the nightmarish elements while bicycling throughout the pothole ridden hellscape that is Philadelphia, one such delivery almost taking me OUTSIDE of Philly as well. I got over the muscle fatigue around five today.

For the sake of my mental health, I'm going to try something: leave my gaming PC off all week. Instead of sitting in front of it all the time, I'll try doing other things.

I'm realizing I have an addiction to video games and find I spend far too many unhealthy hours playing them, especially when I'm severely depressed.

Part of me is tempted to sell my gaming rig and maybe my PS4 (I only bought it for Spider-Man and I platinum'd that already.

I could use the money to buy a new laptop to maybe get back into writing. I've been considering getting one of those hybrid laptop/tablet things or maybe a Microsoft Surface Pro.
I'm late to the party, but I wanted to chime in--this was how I stopped myself from falling deeper into depression a couple years ago. I was spiraling, and in comfort, I bought so many cheap games for my Vita. "Look at all these PS1 games I can play anytime, anywhere!" Except that was only making it worse, and it took me getting a third of the way through a game I hated in high school, and still hate, to wonder what the fuck I was doing and start fixing it.

I guess I'm saying, you're doing good by this.

The admins come for my Church of Rikka co-mod today.

I'm like Winston Smith, just waiting for that bullet in the back of my head.

I don't have the time or energy to scour the sub or my posts for whatever image could be the end of me. If I post a warning, it could trigger the Streisand Effect and just hasten my demise.

I had a surprise day off yesterday (thought I was scheduled but wasn't). When I got home, I had the urge to finally clear out some stuff. It started with excessive jackets in the closet that I either never wear or are too big for me since the weight loss.

I even inspired my father - a hoarder in some ways - to clear out ratty shoes and almost ALL of his ballcaps, which I never thought he'd do

Then I decided to clear a few books off my shelf. It started innocently enough. A book here or there. Then I finally cleared ALL of my literary classics, many of which I've had since my university days (Shakespeare, Greek plays, etc). That cleared an entire shelf.

Then I started looking at all of my non-comics books. I looked at them and asked myself:
-How long have I had this?
-When's the last time I read it or even looked at it?
-Would I EVER read it again?
-I used this book for research once. Would I ever use it again?
-I bought this book for research but I've never looked at it. Will I ever?

Three boxes late and my non-comics bookcase, once packed to the brim, now looks like this:

In purging my non-comics books, I've started really thinking about my comics. I love my collection, but how many of them do I REALLY need physical copies of when a digital copy would suffice?

My answer is surprisingly higher than I expected.

Still needs more thought.

Or maybe a decent scanner.

They're honestly easily either "legally obtained" as I already have for many comics (many I also own physical copies) or through, say, Comixology.

In fact, speaking of the latter, I signed up for Comixology Unlimited yesterday (30-day trial) and I'm kinda digging it. Not greatly enjoyable to read on my phone, but I could see myself reading them more in a tablet or 2-in-1 laptop like I'm considering.

I've been thrilled with the comics I bought on Kindle when I read them on my iPad. Almost as good as the real thing.

Nice. I think I'll enjoy reading them more on a tablet since it'd be roughly the same size as the average comic. I often had to zoom in to read some panels on the comic I read last night on Comixology.

I was reading an article on "Getting women out of the sex industry" and it dawned on me that it's kinda strange to lump all sex work in the same category. Yes, there are commonalities, but while a teenager babysitting their cousins might need to cook dinner, that doesn't put them in the same industry as a chef. A cosplayer selling lewd photos on Patreon has about as much in common with a high end call girl, but both just get lumped in together as "sex workers".

Concluding that women need help to get out of the sex industry because of prostitutes who are exploited, is like concluding that all cashiers need to wear respirators because toll booth attendants breathe in a lot of auto exhaust fumes.

You guys ever find a band that would totally be your jam, except for one aspect that unfortunately just ruins the whole thing? I just experienced something like that. A female friend of mine got engaged recently to the lead guitarist of a metal band. I decided to check them out on Youtube. First song I clicked, I immediately started nodding along when the introduction began. Great instrumental work, awesome composition, amazing sound.

And then the vocals started. They were death growls. They were all death growls.

I swear I deflated like a vandalized float balloon at a parade. I don't have anything against growled vocals, for the people who are into that kind of thing, I just don't think it sounds good.

Dang, that lady has got a legit vocal growl tho.

I kinda like this song, shows off a bit of her vocal range as well.

I completely agree with @bhamv3 - great music ruined by that fucked up vocal style. If she actually sang like she does in this one I think they'd have a chance of making it big.

I keep getting little modules of that WIP story playing out in my head...
We all know the trope of discovering the new boy/girl MC is crushing on has their balcony right across from MC. The trick here is the reveal.
MC, on his balcony: monologing about the new girl in Japanese
MC: out loud and in English Dear Lord, please don't let me fuck up.
Offscreen girl's voice: also in English I didn't quite copy that. Say again, please.
MC goes wide eyed, then cut to wide shot to reveal they live right next door to each other
ROLL ED (or end volume, whichever applies).

She's seen the movie, too.

Did you thank each book you're getting rid of?
