Video Game News and Miscellany

Unless Google and the gaming media are bizarrely silent about the controller features, it's a PS2 era controller that's had a couple of social media buttons added. I'm really scared as to what that means for gaming if Stadia catches on. With so much talk of how cloud gaming means you never have to upgrade, there's no generations of hardware, etc. That could mean that gaming interface becomes stagnant. Stuck with the same basic controller for as long as Google can dominate the market, and all other platforms will be shackled to the same level.
Well it'll mean Nintendo will still beat it because they've had a deathgrip on portable gaming consoles for decades (sorry Sony :p), and no one wants to be shackled to always online all the time.

To be honest, the stupid name, the stupid logo, the presentation and the hard to fulfill promises. If Googles name would't be attached to Stevia I would think this is one of these kickstarter scam consoles.

I did the cloud service gaming beta with Google, and it was great during the morning, but sketchy AF during peak hours.

I've messed around a lot with streaming games from my own PC. I've got 20 mbit up (200 down), and it's still pretty hit or miss. Especially on FPS games with a lot of camera movement. RTS games tend to do pretty well, though.

Oh, and this went by me completely until bluesnews called attention to it... Lucasfilm Games... NOT Lucasarts.
What the heck that means, I have no idea. Disney's had it's share of EA-style studio killings though, so I'm not enamored. RIP Black Rock.
Well, Lucasfim Games was the name for the games division from 1982 to 1990, when it was changed to LucasArts. My guess would be that they want it immediately obvious that they're getting back to making games, so they went with the older name.

...or waiting out the exclusivity period, which you were probably going to do anyway in your usual wait for its price to come down.

I think you'd be surprised what "no one" wants to do. There's many examples over history of things that "nobody" would want.

You might be 100% right. But maybe not.

And Nvidia's probably kicking themselves for dragging their feet on GeForce Now. Started development in 2013, I applied to the beta for that in 2015, and it still has gone nowhere.

Apparently you got in the beta immediately if you bought a Shield TV, though, so I guess it's been nice for those people.

So, BattleTech players. Did you feel like the game lacked something from the tabletop version?
Do you enjoy installing mods? I mean really enjoy it? I mean...REEEEEALLY enjoy it?
Because if so, then have I got a deal for you:
How does gunning down a CattleMaster, Uriel or Phoenix Hawk with an LBX Autocannon sound? RogueTech is a huge mod for Harebrained Schemes' BattleTech which adds over 1000 'mechs, just about every weapon added into the tabletop game over the years, a fair number of new crunchies and even those annoying Power Armour nitwits.

It brings the combat a little more in line with the full, expanded tabletop rule-set (which no sane person ever used, thanks to requiring dozens of skill checks and countless dice rolled a turn), but through the magic of computers, we can experience all the thrills of full simulation-level ‘Mech combat without putting you to sleep or frying your brain.

[The mod] reinstates [the tabletop version's] complex rules and lets you bolt just about anything onto your big stompy bots up to and including the contents of the kitchen sink. If riding a clattering, improvised pirate ‘Mech into battle with a hot-rod engine and a Gauss shotgun loaded with silverware appeals, this mod is for you.

Honestly, most of what it lacked from the tabletop was the annoying bullshit. It streamlined the experience immensely while keeping the lore intact.

Hell... one of the reasons I love Mechwarrior Online is that it's actually managed to provide some semblence of difference and balance to the Mechwarrior experience. Clan shit isn't just a plain upgrade anymore; it actually works mechanically different and there are reasons for/against using specific Clan items. I don't need a metric fuckton of rules to make Battletech even more complex, but I guess I'm not the target audience.

That's exactly it. I guess I'm done paying for PC games. I'm not installing a Tencent datamining software suite on my PC.
Oh, I'm still happily paying for PC games.

On *steam.* And sometimes GOG, which doesn't require me to install GOG Galaxy.

At the rate Epic is throwing it's shitty Fortnite money at exclusives, it feels like nothing is coming to Steam.
Well, hey, Just Cause 4 just went down to 50% today. Not too much longer before it'll get to where I'll finally get around to buying it :D

The mind boggling thing about this, to me, is that given the state of Fallout 76 and its dismal reputation among gamers, the stage is basically perfectly set for Obsidian to swoop in and vacuum up all the unhappy Fallout fans. And now they pull something like this.

An insane amount. A dev let slip at GDC apparently that it's enough to cover the first 50K sales. That's a lot of Fortnite money.

Apparently the devs behind the new Crypt of the Necrodancer Zelda game proposed DLC to Nintendo and were told to just put it in the full game.

Nintendo, if the N64 wasn't such a bad breakup for us, I wouldn't have been able to fall in love all over again.

Oh, and it's up for preorder already on Steam and GOG, so it's not Epic Game Store exclusive. Yay! I'm already sick of this being a worry.

It's a DIRECT sequel to the original game and has the same lead writer.

It takes place in Seattle.

A woman was on stage so the entire Twitch chat went apeshit about SJWs and shit. I then proceeded to spam about killing nazi Sabbat and such and proclaiming the main NPC will be AOC as a vampire who outlaws white vampires and turns all the vampires into socialists and then the actual subtitle to the game is Bernie 2020 because fuck those losers.

Obsidian are the Devs and Take-Two Interactive's Private Division is the publisher. Obsidian aren't responsible for this bad decision. They got fucked.

As much as we complain about the Epic store exclusives... I'm wondering if getting a guaranteed 300k in advance is worth it if you don't expect to be a massive seller.
