WORDLE

My first time playing I didn't solve it because I jumped in with no instruction and didn't understand what the colors meant.

Today I got it in 2.

As someone who doesn't know this game, none of this thread makes any goddamn sense
It's a free, website-based word game. One word per day. You have 6 chances to guess a 5-letter word. If a letter is grey in a guess, then it's not part of the word at all. If it's yellow, then it's in the word, but not in that spot. If it's green, it's part of the word and in the correct spot.

Just a tip guys - it looks like it pastes successfully here, but it won't. You have to paste it and then take a screenshot of your attempt to paste, then delete everything and paste the (cropped) screenshot.

If you're on windows 10, Shift-Winkey-S will open a handy screen capture utility to do this for you.

A couple of variations on the game:

Wordl -- No one word per day limit and can be set to different word lengths

ABSURDLE -- Every time you guess wrong in Absurdle, the solution to the puzzle changes.

For those that have solved it, I'm curious to see your thought pattern on this one. Here's mine from today's (213), behind a spoiler:

I open a notepad after the first two lines if it isn't obvious what it is by then.

And I lay out the possibilities

R O _ _ _
_ R O _ _
R _ O _ _
etc

and I see what words I can build with the letters I haven't used yet. Rowdy jumped right out at me from the first line, and that meant that neither R nor O could be in the first position.

so the grid became

_ R O _ Y
_ _ O R Y
_ R _ O Y

Because R could only be in the second and fifth position, and O could only be in the 4th and 5th. With S, I, E, C, T, A, L, W, and D out of the picture, I spent a lot of time trying to figure out if U fit somewhere in there, but nothing I came up with was possible without one of the greyed out letters. The X threw me off because, as its scrabble score indicates, it is very uncommonly used.
But after screwing around in notepad for 5 minutes at that point, it became clear the best shot was PROXY. And it was.

I open trying to get as many letters eliminated as possible.

I was feeling very confused until I remembered that xy is a letter pair.

What kinda mind meld are @GasBandit and @figmentPez in with those first two guesses??
As explained in the short video I linked above, those two words comprise the 10 most common letters in English. (For dictionary words, which is more useful in word games than the most commonly used letters in print. Though it's not adjusted specifically for 5 letter words, so I don't know if more optimization is possible.)

Huh, Bert's train made me go check - I didn't realize Wordle WILL use words that repeat the same letter (like "latte" or "rigor"). I had thought it was one use each per word. That complicates things and I've been lucky so far it hasn't happened to me.
