"We're conservative republican and mormon - we don't do gay."

Oh, and he mumble spoke like he was methed out. He's a piece of shit who raised a piece of shit. His ex-wife, by the way, told good old dad last month that son had committed suicide. What a lovely family.

So!
Kid shoots up gay bar, has previously admitted to being non-binary and had changed name so as not to be associated with…
Kid’s dad is ex-MMA fighter turned porn star, has gone on record as saying, “[Kid] isn’t gay though, right? Whew! Cuz we Mormons aren’t like that.”
Kid’s grandpa is California GOP MAGA-loving Assemblyman Randy Voepel, who compared Jan 6 with 1776, and who serves (until December) as the vice-chair of the Veterans Affairs, Aging & Long-Term Care, and Public Employment & Retirement committees and a member of the Insurance, Local Government, and Joint Legislative Audit committees.

This family, oh boy.

73 year old man murders 5 in ~Toronto before being killed in shoot out with police. Took place in a condominium complex and 4 separate units. Gunman was a resident.

The part that got left out: This was someone who burst into a condo board meeting, and it is the second "person burst into condo meeting, guns blazing" incident since the one last week in Rome, Italy.
It's almost like there might be a worldwide housing crisis going on, or something.

Monterey Park, CA Shooting Leaves 10 Dead

The shooter is still at large.

"The shooting occurred Saturday night, the eve of the Lunar New Year, at a dance hall at about 10:22 p.m. in Monterey Park, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.

"Authorities pronounced 10 people dead at the scene and transported another 10 injured victims to different local hospitals, with their conditions ranging from stable to critical."

They believe the shooter is now dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
72 year old Asian man. The dance ballroom he shot up was one he frequented and even met an ex-wife. He attempted to shoot up another dance place in Alhambra after that but some brave souls managed to disarm him there.

Brandon Tsay is the hero who disarmed him at the other ballroom. He watched the suspect enter with the gun and start looking for targets. He lunged at him and they fought viscously over the weapon which Tsay was able to get away from him. The suspect seemed to contemplate staying and fighting more, but ended up walking out to his van where he committed suicide the next afternoon when police closed in on him.

People die daily in traffic, and we as a society have decided that we'll try to limit it but that up to a point it's acceptable losses balanced by the benefits of using cars.
Americans have decided en masse that some shootings are acceptable losses balanced by the benefits of having guns in the hands of children and mentally unstable or ill people.
Honestly, at this point, are these even news anymore? There were 647 official mass shootings in the US in 2022. A day *without* a mass shooting is more newsworthy than one with.

It may be very callous, but...as a society, you've chosen this. Made your bed, lie in it, etc.

There is no creature more obnoxious than a European talking about America.
Have you seen Americans talk about Europe lately? For some reason it's really been getting more and more obnoxious and dumb. As in "the Internet is in America so you should write in American" style dumb.

but this wasn't meant as some anti-Americanism, it was meant as defeatism.
As Patrick said - the same can be applied to a whole lot of things. Whether it's climate change or megacorporations taking over the world. A minority with power pushes it through and the rest of us apparently don't care enough or don't have the power to change it.

Just a quick aside to this one. Americans and American businesses have spent a metric fuckton of money and time figuring out how to make cars safer. We've engineered the shit out of them and implemented them alongside common sense laws to protect others - drinking & driving, seatbelts, speed limits, etc. To compare the two is not even close.

Lawyer: Admins were warned 3 times the day boy shot teacher

"Concerned staff warned administrators at a Virginia elementary school three times that a 6-year-old boy had a gun and was threatening other students in the hours before he shot and wounded a teacher, but the administration 'was paralyzed by apathy' and didn’t call police, remove the boy from class or lock down the school, the wounded teacher’s lawyer said Wednesday."

More at the article. Today sucks for other reasons for me, so I'm skipping doing a proper summary.

I heard about this. Allegedly one of the admins told the concerned teacher (who was ultimately shot) that it was close to the end of the day, so just wait it out so they kid would go home and be the parents’ problem. Monstrous.

The car companies fought those measures for a long ass time.
Also most of those deaths could have been prevented if America didn’t make it impossible to function without a car.

A Parkland student had their second in 10 years, this Oxford Strong sweatshirt wearer possibly experienced their second in less than 3 years. We're gonna have to start giving kids punch cards: survive 5 school shootings, get a free 6 inch sub (drink not included)C995BD91-38A2-4E46-945F-47C0A3D49323.jpeg
