Just learning about this today:
Almost 2.7 billion records of personal information for people in the United States were leaked on a hacking forum, exposing names, social security numbers, all known physical addresses, and possible aliases.
www.bleepingcomputer.com
If true, this means data records for ONE THIRD of the ENTIRE WORLD'S POPULATION have been leaked.
Just another reminder to never give anyone more information than the bare minimum they need to do whatever it is they need to do, and also a good demonstration of how a company that makes it their business to mine/scrape/collect and then collate
PII from multiple sources into comprehensive profiles of individuals ALSO creates a very
tempting target for people who might want to steal that information for their own nefarious purposes.
