Usually they don't combo the two for that reason, unless the horde's set off by a boomer, or you just let the specials hang around for a while.

Smoker/boomer aren't really going to be problems. A boomer will actually help because it'll free up your friends and allow them to set up a blockade. Smoker's are deadly either way, if you're on open ground (which you should never be) you're as much as target as you'll be anyway.

If you're doing things right (fire/pipe/corridor/door) then hunters aren't a problem either. Fire/pipe will make the horde problem nonexistent and firing down the corridor/door will kill any hunters trying to get the creep on you. If you're on open ground, it's all dependent on your footwork and reflexes. It's definitely one of the more difficult maneuvers to pull off, but it can be done.

Don't have any vids, but if you ever join me for a game on L4D1, I can show you how it's done. For L4D2, you'll need to give me a few days to familiarize myself again.

Oh and as for the tank, it's enormously difficult to solo him on expert alone. I've seen it done once, but his aimbot+speed makes him hard to dodge. I either light and run, backtrack to the beginning, use a locker, or depending how close to the end I am, sprint to the safehouse. It works on levels like the airport, 2nd level of death toll, basically any level that doesn't require a minifinal (even in the airport, if you toss a pipe and book it, you can make it). It functions on the principle that zombies only spawn when the team gets near (otherwise the level would be filled with lag), therefore, you rushing alone would not trigger spawns. There's a exhilarating thrill you get rushing through the level with pretty much every zombie+tank on your ass. You're usually moving too fast for specials to get a lock on your position, plus your deserted teammates should provide a decent distraction. Grabbing and tossing pipes/mtovs without delay is key to getting any of the faster ones off you.

I played a bit of L4D1 the other day... it's so easy to play compared to the 2nd... but damn is Zoey nice to look at.

Rochelle falls into the same trap that so many "average" female characters fall into: If their personalities aren't exaggerated, they aren't memorable. Or in Rochelle's case, they become boring. All that really needs to be done to "fix" her is to give her some better lines... you know, play her off of Ellis, Coach, and Nick a bit more. Have her bemoan her status as the only sane one in the group a bit more.

Less competition for me then! :p

Let's get a 4 player expert game going tonight Shegs?
If you guys can give me a time, I'll see if I can make it. I never seem to be around when the rest of you are.

Is L4D2 really that hard? I've tried out the demo and it's been pretty easy. Defibs and adrenaline + new shotgun makes it even easier to keep your team up.

It's far more difficult compared to the first one. It's incredible how quickly the SI can FUBAR the survivors within a few seconds.

Witches don't sit stationary for you to pass by easily, the new special infected can "combo" you (Jockey walks you into a spitter/hunter/charger/smoker), tactics like buckling down for a horde are impossible thanks to new special infected (Charger slams into the corner/Spitter spits a goo puddle in your area), and the Expert Tanks take around 5-7 full clips of a fully loaded Assault rifle to bring down. I'm just scratching the surface here.

Yup. The infected DO combo you a lot and they do it well. The spitter will always seem to spawn if you "bunker" down in an area after a rush attack.

L4D2 is much harder due to better AI and new infected. It is nice and challenging.

Excellent, I can develop new and interesting ways of killing things. I can see the spitter being an issue, but the Charger never seemed like much of a threat, unless he decided to spawn two feet away from you. I just treated the spitter's globs like fire.

Fire that gets stronger the more you stand in it. It is MUCH deadlier that fire.

As for the charger... I've killed an entire team with a single charge. It is DEADLY if you can find the right moment for it.

l4d2 is brutal compared to the first. You physically can't camp a corner as there's now player collision. Even if you could, spitters and chargers can either incap or straight up kill an entire party in this position instantaneously. I'm pretty sure smokers and hunters do a lot more damage now too. On top of all that, the stages are simply more difficult - there's new challenges within each stage and especially the finales that will not leave you with *any* slack for messing up. Expert in the last game is closer to advanced in this game.

Nothing is more satisfying than charging a survivor to Oblivion. During the Parish finale last night, I took out 2 survivors that way while they ran across the bridge. The tears were delicious.

Thanks for getting me pumped guys, I'm going to get no sleep for the next week.

Really, Deschain, play L4D2 before you come up with schemes. It's much, much harder than you think it is.
Yea. L4D2 tactics differ from L4D1 due to new infected and weapons :) I have to agree with the troll that you should get the game and try it out.

I taught my sister to play L4D1 over the summer and she says 2's it's a little harder, but I haven't had access to a game worthy computer in a while.

L4D2 is heads and tails harder because almost none of the strategies from the old game work anymore (except crowning the witch). However, some of the new ones are a lot more fun.

Chainsaw + Witch = fun :) I did that it was awesome.

Charger and Spitter are definitely game changers.

I managed to incap an entire team with one charge on the escalators in Dead Center, it was glorious. :D

So yeah... this night's session? Disastrous. The damn rolling crescendo kept getting us, and that's when the Tank didn't. We just couldn't get our shit together... I think we need more practice as a team before we can even think about trying Expert.

It's a pity we can only do 4 man co-op runs. Seems like there are quite a few of us playing now.
But hey. If all of us are one at once I think a Halforum VS battle is a requirement.

We were getting very impatient near the end, pushing ahead recklessly. Of course, near the beginning we were wandering all over the map, often much too far apart from each other. I don't know what was up, we were playing very differently than I'd come to expect (other than bungling the crescendo.)

iI don't see how old tactics don't really work. Just downloaded it and the only big things that strike me as different are:

- Don't know the maps, so I just wander everyone killing things.
- Unnecessary weapon animations, but I think that's to prevent maniac quick switching.
- whole interface has a weird feeling, but i'll get used to it.
- Combat Shotgun is a big improvement, so is magnum.

They made a very poor decision giving me a railgun. It is the greatest weapon ever.

Actually, with the max ammo reduction and the nerfing of their penetration, the Shotguns are much less useful than they used to be. Gone are the days where taking the Auto-Shotty was the clear choice. Now it's all about the AK (the best Weapon for killing Tanks at close range) and Sniper Rifle (The best weapon for killing ANYTHING at range). Magnums are great, but Melee weapons are decent too.

I think autoshotgun is better than combat shotgun now. I thought the tighter cone would be cool , but it just leaves incomplete kills. Magnum seems to be taking over for shotgun tbh....

The Magnum is really only good for Common Infected, as it has a special effect to always kill them in one shot. Against Special Infected, your going to need to switch to something else... and since your generally only going to be fighting one SI at a time, there really isn't any reason not to use an Automatic or a Rifle instead of a shotgun. If your up close, you want an AK. If your at Medium to Long Range, you want a Combat Rifle. If your on the move a lot (like during VS or Scavenge) the M16 or Desert Rifle are good choices.

I find emptying the magnum into a special tends to stop them. I'm a reload freak, meaning at any lull I'll be reloading my weapons, so I usually have fairly full mags. The pump shotty is a waste, but I'm trying not to give up on the auto yet.
