[Movies] Talk about the last movie you saw 2: Electric Threadaloo

I watched Robin Hood last night. I liked the film better than I expected. In fact, on the drive over, I kept telling myself

"This is not Robin Hood, it is a Medieval Action Movie...This is not Robin Hood, it is a Medieval Action Movie...This is not Robin Hood, it is a Medieval Action Movie..."

And it really helped. I cringed at all the wild historical inaccuracies. Even felt having a middle-aged Robin and Marian was odd. But over all I enjoyed it.

Now that the origin story is out of the way, maybe they can do a REAL Robin Hood story next.

I'm currently watching The Mask of Zorro, which happened to be on TV. I can't explain what it is, but I really enjoy that movie.

Took my children to see the new Shrek.
.... I really felt this was neither a good movie or a bad one. It wasn't painful to watch as I remember the third one was, but it wasn't remarkable either. It just.... was.

Saw How to Train your Dragon for a third time, finally in IMAX. Movie is still great. Makes me kinda sad that "IMAX theaters" are the same size that regular ol' theaters used to be before companies realized they could cut all the screens in half and have more theaters, making more money. And now we pay extra for a "big" screen.

Yeah not quite. The "Real I-MAX Experience" theatres are more than just large screens. There are "regular I-Max" that are just larger screens and that's probably what you've been going to.

I've seen a couple things on IMax and that screen is LOLHUEG.

The one time I saw something on OMNIMax I thought I was gonna die.

Went to see "Prince of Persia" earlier tonight. Thought the movie was pretty good, don't know how well it represented the current Prince of Persia games since I haven't really played a PoP game since the original but I find it difficult to believe that fans of the game wouldn't be satisfied with this movie. Definitely one of the best movies I've seen based on a computer game.

Huh. I just tend to dismiss game movies outright as rubbish the moment I see they're in production. If this one is good, though, I might end up seeing it.

Finally saw Avatar, and it was a pretty enjoyable viewing even if the story was pretty cliche. Gotta say though that screenwriting doesn't get more lazy than Unobtainium, couldn't Cameron have come up with a slightly interesting name.

That script review meeting must've gone something like;

"So there's this mineral that Earth needs to mine on Pandora and it's very difficult to obtain... hmmm... what to call it?"
"Cantgetitoutium!"
"Difficulttomineite!"
"No, we'll call it... UNOBTAINIUM!.... get it... cause they can't obtain it."

That was sad. most of the movie was well paced and fun to watch. I was able to ignore the telegraphed storyline and just watch the visuals, which were very impressive.

I have tried to watch The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus twice. I can't get into it. I don't like Verne Troyer at all. His voice just irritates me. The movie just drags. I don't know if I'll ever finish it. I hate when I get a movie in from Netflix and I can't decide to finish it or send it back for something else.

Anyone else seen it? Is is it worth it? I'm about 1/3 of the way through, I guess.

I just saw Waterworld, at my friend-with-poor-taste's urging (this is a friend of mine who loved Stealth, didn't like Se7en, loved the highway scene in The Matrix Reloaded, Prefers Die Hard 2 over all the other movies in the series, enjoyed Aliens Vs. Predator: Requiem, and prefers the oversized X-Box controller.)

Strangely enough, though, Waterworld wasn't bad. I mean, it wasn't good, but I got the feeling that it would have been good if they had just slightly toned down some of the over-the-top acting and pound-it-into-your-skull-so-hard-you'll-be-in-a-coma-for-a-week environmentalist elements.

Went to see "Robin Hood" yesterday. Apart from one very silly military decision in the movie I found it to be a good movie which had an interesting take on the mythos and managed to be something different from all the other "Robin Hood" movies.

ARCHERS! ABANDON THIS INSANELY SUPERIOR POSITION ON TOP OF THESE CLIFFS RAINING ARROWS DOWN ON TO THE UNFORTUNATE FRENCH LANDING POSITION HERE ON DEATHTRAP BEACH!

Shrek 4.
I went in with expectations that were not met. It's an alright film, but doesn't provide many good laughs.

My problem was actually with the French landing at that place. What military commander picks an invasion point that easily defended? A group of a hundred could have held that beach without any trouble.

Wasn't the idea that the French didn't know there would be any resistance at that point? The whole country was supposed to be embroiled in civil war by the time they landed.

Nah, it would have taken 300.

Even so I wouldn't have picked that place to land my army, it's to narrow with to many choke points and offers enemy archers the perfect vantage point. The real reason for them going there was of course that it looked great on film but any real military strategist would have picked a different place, William the Conqueror for instance landed at Pevensay Bay which is not that much farther to go and offered a lot better terrain.

I finally watched Avatar. It was....I dunno. I love fantasy movies like that a LOT. Something magical about them that makes me hate the idea of waking up. But....this one was lacking something. There was too much plot and not enough story. Also, I had a real issue with how quickly he turned traitor to the humans. Actually how quickly all of them did. And how ruthlessly they murdered the other humans. If he had done more to stop it maybe I would have understood it more.

Letters to Juliet
Saw it with the lady friend. I... I have no idea why I like this film. I thought it was pretty crappy up until halfway, with unlikeable characters and a predictable saccharine plot. And the ending doesn't make the characters much more likeable and the plot much less predictable or sugary. But I came out of the theater liking the film.

Maybe it's due to who I went with.

The Brothers Bloom

Oh my stars. Absolutely excellent in every way. Bang Bang was a bleeding riot, and the end choked me up. Plus the film was just beautiful, in addition to being stylish. I would very much like to watch it a second time.

Also, Rachel Weisz was effing awesome in that role!

Splice

Freakin.... WEIRD. Weird and a bit silly. I enjoyed it, though. Good, strange movie for a damp Saturday afternoon.

We saw Splice today as well and were both thoroughly disturbed. It's the best horror movie in a while, and it did so by really getting under my skin. It's not gross, just... bothersome.

It's a shame the movie trailers make it look like jump-scare garbage. It's actually a smart movie. So I don't think it will do well in the box office.

I really wanna see it. Then again, I'll see anything with Adrien Brody once.

Last night I made my second attempt to watch Old Dogs. I didn't get much further into it than I did the first time. Which isn't saying much since I've now seen a total of 25 minutes of the movie and have no desire to finish it out.

Sweet mercy. It was my wife's turn to pick and she picked this pile of shit. I actually felt like breaking the DVD when I pulled it out the drive. What awful garbage. We left it running while we washed dishes, and folded some laundry. I just wonder if Travolta and Williams, et. al careers are over. Just terrible.

Tried to see MacGruber, but found out it's not even playing in Alberta anymore.

That was a quick gigabomb.

Saw Get Him to the Greek.
It's got Jonah Hill, so it was at a serious disadvantage, but it actually had some pretty hilarious scenes.
