Whatcha been playing?

This is basically the same as any music or movie or tv show thread where you talk about the game you are currently playing and why.

Currently I am rocking out to Castlevania: Order of Ecclasia. Wow, easily the best Castlevania game of the Gameboy/DS 2D Castlevanias. It brings difficulty back in a big way. Even some normal enemies pose a grave threat to you this time around and the bosses will generally take a couple of tries to beat. I'm thoroughly digging the glyph system too, though I could do away with having to grind on different glyph types to make them strong enough to be viable against enemies.

Yeah, it's easily my favorite of the long line of portable Castlevanias.

Just finished wolfenstein & blazblue story mode. Heavy into Batman at this point, with occasional split screen call of duty nazi zombies. There's always the occasional rock band, with the newer chapters of Final Fantasy 4 the After Years waiting in the wings as my Wii gathers dust.

As for the portable castlevania games, I enjoyed Aria/Dawn of sorrow the most. I thought it was cool the way the storyline was done, and that one was the direct sequel of the other. That plus Julius mode in the DS one (plays just like Castlevania 3 for nes) cemented it down for me.

As for Order of Ecclesia, I never finished it. I enjoyed what I played, but the maps all seemed a little linear, and I was more of a fan of the large expansive SOTN type maps.

I've been playing Fallout 3 with version 2 of the Fallout Overhaul Kit mod. FOOK2 is actually only in public beta right now, so I'm sort of beta testing rather than actually playing. Though it's already a very enjoyable mod, even if there are still quite a few balancing kinks and bugs to work out.

I've been waiting to play through Fallout 3 again, the only reason I haven't yet IS because the Fook2 isn't out of beta yet and I want to experience it as a whole (probably going to be waiting around 6 months for that).

I'm still playing about 5hrs a day on WoW and 2hrs a day on Team Fortress 2. I was starting up a Dragonquest 8 game on my PS2 but I haven't touched it in 3 weeks.... :eek:rly:

I tried FOOK but I found all the new guns to be quite immersion-breaking... some of them had terrible models/skins and barely any of them fitted with the post-apocalyptic aesthetic.

In the end I found my own combination of numerous gameplay mechanics mods, creature mods and gun/armor mods that somehow still worked together. Then Broken Steel came out and broke half of them, and I gave up. I'll probably reinstall it in a few months and go through the whole process again; hopefully some great new mods will be out by then.

I'd agree with you Gill, as I played my first 6 playthroughs with my own combination of mods each time. FOOK though, offers alot more than just weapons and I'd like to experience the game through "that side" as soon as it's finished.

Hmm... right now, I'm considering buying BlazBlue or King of Fighters XII. Not sure towards what game I should lean to...

Any recomandations?

Depends, are they both available for play on X-box Live?
Yes ma'am.

After some serious playtime with SF IV I'm ready to try something new.

From my old neogeo-times and mame, I'm somewhat familiar with the KoF series and I actually like the gameplay.

About BlazBlue (and the guilty gear series) I know near nothing, never played it myself. Heard it is quite hectic and very fast.

What to spend my precious CHF on? (Swiss francs...)

Can't really comment to much then, as I've been out of the fighting game scene for a long while. Lastest game I played even slightly seriously was Guilty Gear XX: Accent Core.

I prefer the "out of wordly" style of games like Guilty Gear and Marvel Vs Capcom as they can tend to be pretty "twitchy" and require split second timing and perfect execution. Though games like KoF and SFIV take the more "grounded" approach and are more about tactics and poke/turtling while waiting for openings and flaws in your opponents offence.

You say however that you're looking for something "different" than SFIV, and if that's the case, I'd go with Blazblue.

Lots and lots and lots of Mass Effect.

I haven't had much room in my budget for games lately so I've been hunting achievements on old games instead. Before Mass Effect I was playing through Bioshock again, Prototype and also a bit of Far Cry 2. Next up I will propably finish what's left of Soul Calibur IV.

Hopefully my local game shop will begin a new trade in-campaign soon so I can get something fresh to play. :)

FOOK2 actually abandons a lot of the guns from the previous version, mainly the ones that the FOOK team found to be ugly in model or texture. However, they also added a bunch of new ones, such as WW2 guns, so I'm not sure how that'll work out for your immersion. :p

I dunno if you guys know about another mod called Mart's Mutant Mod, which adds new enemies to the game and makes every enemy encounter bigger and harder. The guy making MMM has stated he intends to make his mod fully compatible with FOOK2. Basically, MMM will provide more enemies for you to shoot, and FOOK will provide the guns for you to shoot them with.

Based on what I've seen so far in the FOOK2 public beta, a lot of the new features are designed to help with immersion. For example, they have a World and Neighborhood Kit component (unfortunately acronymed to WANK) that adds hidden journal entries, diary entries, computer logs etc to the game, providing a whole bunch of new background lore. WANK also adds stuff like extra skeletons and corpses in areas where it'd make sense for them to appear. Another example would be how repairing in combat is now not allowed. Actually, the entire repair system is going to be revamped, and scrap metal will no longer be the magical repair material.

On the whole, I think FOOK2 is going to be awesome. Just gotta iron out the kinks first.

Oh, also, FOOK2 is quite a bit more unstable and demanding on your system than the previous version. I'm getting like double the CTDs with FOOK2.

EQ on an emulated server. 5X exp, content through LoY, and fabled mobs giving me the quick advancement, nice gear, and ability to see things I didn't see when I played live. Got my brother playing it as well (much to his Wife's dismay).

Pretty much just WoW right now. I'm trying to save my portable games for long trips and I'm busy with non-gaming projects of late. With money being tight, WoW is cheaper and more time-consuming than buying new games each month.

I'm in the middle of Ghostbusters on the PC. I've also been playing a little Battlefield Heroes.

I installed Master of Orion 2 on my netbook... I really shouldn't have. Why do I do this to myself? It's always "just one more turn".

I've also been playing Tales of Monkey Island: The Siege of Spinner Cay.

All in all I haven't been gaming much in the last few weeks. Most of the time I would have spent gaming has been spendt searching through Flickr for the cosplay thread.

I'm back into WoW after a long 6 month layoff and am already main tanking Ulduar. My guild missed the shit out of me, I can tell. Oh, to be loved for one's superior tanking skills.

Haven't tanked ToC yet. Waiting till I get more Ulduar gear for it.
Yogg Saron is a complete blast. I'm loving most of the bosses. Most people seem to really hate Mimiron, but he's easily my favorite. I love insane chaotic fights.

Ooo, I love capturing Antaran ships and deconstructing them for the techs. Nothing like getting Particle Beams at the very early stages of the game.

Been playing Champions Online. So far it's mostly just playing around with new character concepts/costumes and briefly getting them through the tutorial. So far my favorite characters is my single blade carrying "Puss in Boots" (Were-cat with mechanical legs), and my power armor using "Top Secret" (Astroboy rip-off).

It's been entertaining. I think if it has a flaw it's probably going to be the end game. Fights seem way too easy, and it's mostly just who can hit the hardest. I want to see fights that require movement, or using a certain ability at the right time. WoW pulled it off very well. I hope Champions follows suit.

Mostly playing Little King's Story now, and oh boy is it awesome! It's like Pikmin with a lot more depth. All the little details are quite amazing and there's just so much to do. I've only rescued one princess so far, but I'm working hard on the sidequests and kingdom upgrades.

Do you use assault shuttles for that, or is there a better method I don't know of? (I also love assault shuttles because they make it so easy to defeat computer opponents who only have starbases/battlestations for planetary defense, as is often the case for repulsive races)

Right now I have been playing Harvest Moon Island of Happiness for the DS. It is a decent game but it would be a lot better with different controls. This game suffers from having stylus controls crammed on to it. The d-pad controls were working just fine there was no need for them to attach the stylus controls onto the game. I can understand them wanting to make the game unique for the DS. But they didn't even do a good job with the controls. It is way to easy to perform the wrong action. For example I was trying to give a gift to someone and I clicked the stylus on them and my character threw the gift breaking it. I would have much preferred to use the d-pad controls. They should of at least left it to us to choose which control style we wanted but they don;t even offer the option to play using the d-pad. And it is really sad because the game would have been much better if they either let us use the d-pad controls or at least spent more time fine tuning the stylus controls.

Oblivion. I'm a Redguard Acrobat vampire and I'm in the Dark Brotherhood. I just completed a thoroughly depressing quest. I don't know why I signed up to be a damn assassin! It always makes me feel guilty!

I'm currently on my way to close another gate.

I also tried HM:IOH but gave up quickly. I was very dissatisfied with the controls as well, and not at all impressed with how slow the game was. Yes it's a HM title, but that's still no excuse for it to take forever to get things done. It's been a while and I've forgotten any examples, but I just remember never accomplishing a damn thing and the days just getting shorter and shorter so you couldn't get any work done efficiently.

I've been instead playing the Rune Factory games which supposedly are "A Fantasy Harvest Moon". I highly recommend them as they combine the traditional HM farming, and some combat aspects as well. Plus the controls are set properly whereas the D-Pad actually moves you and the buttons perform your set actions. Plus if you really want to use the Stylus you can, and sometimes it even helps with farming as you can chart out a watering course.

When you find the severed head during one of the last missions, be sure to take it with you. When you report to where Lucien tells you afterward, be sure to throw it on the floor of the room where you find him. Talk to everyone in the room. Surprise easter egg!

Nothing. I've spent all my free time either working on the forums or fantasy football.

It spoils who's doing "it", but I found it by accident when I was taunting the one responsible. Yes, I thought that throwing the severed head of the responsible party's mother into the room might get a rise out of them. I was surprised when it actually worked!

For the earlier game, assault shuttles are your only choice, because you don't have the tech to do anything else. Later, research Tractor Beams, Transporters and Troop Pods (to increase the number of marines on your ship). Immobilize the enemy ship with the Tractor Beam, then start beaming marines onto their ship with the Transporter. This works best with Antaran ships because they don't have shields, and you need the enemy's ships' shields to be down to use the Transporter. For regular enemy races, you need a weapon to take out their shields first before trying this method.

Generally speaking it's more reliable than shuttles, which can be shot down mid-flight.
