My team was Ashley and Wrex. I was playing as an Infiltrator, you see. End result: lots of firepower and enough tech and biotic support to round it all out.

Spectre pistol with explosive rounds = awesome. I mean, if you can have a Mass Effect bolt pistol, why would you not want to?

Also, seconded on the Kirrahe badassery. Observe:

I went through the game with two characters: a male Paragon vanguard and a female Renegade solider (with Singularity). Both games I killed off Carth/Kaiden because I simply can't stand that guy's voice, with the exception of Star Wars: Republic Commando.

My party with the vanguard was Ashley and Wrex. My party with the soldier was Tali and Liara. The end result in both parties was just pure, unadulterated destruction and badassery. I have to say I prefer playing as the solider, as I can sit there and just soak up insane amounts of damage with Immunity which allows me free time to micro Tali and Liara's abilities. Plus just sitting there with Immunity on and laughing off nearly every attack is just awesome. :D

I'm thoroughly convinced Bioware made a playable Salarian character solely from the response to Captain Kirrahe.

Today, Bioware released a new wallpaper for ME2. I don't know if it's only for halloween, or if it actually alludes to something that happens in game, but all I could think of was "oh shit oh shit oh shit!"

Spoilered, due to possible spoilers

Wait... what is that exactly?

Zombie Shepard? Reaper implanted Shepard? Evil twin/clone Shepard? Shepard when you choose the Renegade path? Shepard with really bad acne?

My guess is that it's another vision Shepard gets. How it'll relate to the story? Not entirely sure. Maybe you get tempted to be like Saren was in the first game... It needs to hurry up and be released dammit!

It could be a vision. It could just be an image released for halloween. But I like to hope it's a possible outcome for shepherd.

One of the themes of the game is "How far are you willing to go to save the universe?" Maybe this could play into the renegade path, with Shepherd being tempted to use his enemy's technology against them. Becoming what he's fighting in order to defeat them, etc etc.

Or maybe Shepherd dies, and this is evil reanimated shepherd that becomes the villain for number three.

I started playing Mass Effect 1 two days ago.

Oh my mother-effing-gawd... HOW COULD I NOT PLAY Mass Effect 1 UP UNTIL NOW!

Please, someone punish me for that.
Now I'm completely hooked withy my blonde, hawt and tough Janis Shephard... Can't wait to get my fix when I get home tonight...

And yes. I am completely looking forward to ME2... But first, let me finish part 1...

What class, Andi?

Paragon or Renegade?
I don't know the english name for the class, but I have biotics and combat abilities.

And at the moment I'm about 50-50 paragon/renegade.

I just do what feels right at the moment. Sometimes it's slapping an idiot in the face, sometimes it's offering some words of comfort.

Don't forget, I'm playing a woman after all... ^^

Infiltrator all the way, baby.

Played too many RPGs beforehand to want to come up against one of those pesky locked crates with nothing to sort it.

Can't really recall what I was. I sniped shit and I sniped it good. Left all the "mental" powers to Liara and all the "tech" to Tali.

Me too, so I kept Kaiden on my team until I got Tali, then immediately made her max out her Electronics.

Kaiden, meh.

The beginning of the supposed "flood" of ME2 info is starting to come out. There's a new trailer and interview video posted, with spoilers, and there's going to be an entire episode on SpikeTV devoted solely to Mass Effect 2. The countdown's begun, woohoo!

Oh, god DAMNIT. I forgot how awesome that speech is.

Starting tomorrow, I'm going for a third play-through before it comes out in January. And have now pre-ordered the Collector's Edition.

I started replaying ME again. OMG, I forgot how awsome the game is. I'm going infiltrator/renegade all the way.

One complaint I have, and it's not exclusive to ME.

Why do games like this give you the option of being a sniper type of character and then force you into situations where you HAVE to fight in close quarters? I finally gave up with my assasin in Oblivion and went for a mage oriented character because it was rare where I could actually hide in the shadows and plink off the enemies with my bow, which is what the whole purpose of an assassin build is.

At least with ME, you can max out your pistol skill for close combat.

I can only think of one, that's right one, situation in the whole game where the sniper rifle is the best weapon for the situation. It's that side quest where you're locked in the mine shaft with a live nuclear device, and when you emerge from the mine you're on a tall hillside overlooking the enemy camp.

Don't get me wrong, I'm using the sniper rifle a ton. I got a great amount of use in it in the Bring Down the Sky content. Which, BTW got me what looks to be the best omni-tool in the game.

Also, when I played through it before I pretty much stuck to the main storyline quests. I never realized that I missed out on a great big chunk of not only gameplay, but also in storylines.

Wait.. what? I beg to differ... my main character in Oblivion was all about the sneaking and assasinating. The only issue is that bows is that it took more time to get to higher multipliers when sneak killing. Once the skill would hit about 70, it started to get OP.

And nothing beats a stiff whack in the back of the head with a knockdown enhanced mace. Take them down and beat them into a pump.

:whoo:

Which is fine in the various overworld dungeons and such, but most of the main questlines force you into close quarters.

You're doing it wrong.

I used my sniper rifle in about 95% of the content in game.

I'm in the infested station, there is zero distance to use a sniper rifle. Like I said, I use the rifle all the time, but I hate the fact that it pidgeon holes you into using close quarters.

Mass effect is easy enough (except beginning on hardcore) that you could finish the game using only the melee attack so it doesn't really matter anyway.

hmmm I think i might try that

I just fired up Mass Effect again.

You know how in games like Half-Life, or Team Fortress 2, or Fallout 3, or Left 4 Dead, you get in the habit of reloading constantly? Fire a short burst from your assault rifle and then you instinctively hit the R key? Yeah, that key's mapped to grenades in Mass Effect.

"Reload! Wait, no, my grenades!"

Yeah that is AWFUL.

And then I remember that I never HAVE TO RELOAD.

Don't worry you two, apparently we now have ammo counts and reloading so all shall be well. :D

Also:

Salarian scientist!

You guys will have ammo counts and reloading. My rig will almost certainly be too crappy to play ME2, so I'll be stuck killing Saren and Sovereign again and again. (And bedding Liara and Ashley again and again!)
