I have this song stuck in my head. Don't get me wrong I actually like this song. But not over and over. Hell even twice in a row is too much. :(

I need this semester to be over so I can't mess it up. I've been working to keep up the grades but for these last 3 weeks my motivation and efficiency has crashed completely plus my workload has doubled or something, I might fuck it up. Having 3 honors classes at the same time as 3 normal ones was a RETARDED IDEA.

At least it is a good song to have stuck in your head. Shel Silverstein Rocks. I really like the Dr. Hook version of the song.

"No, you can't keep going in the basement."
mreeoww?
"Look, I'll give you your own room. Very posh in China."
MROOW!

I recently posted a minor victory about finishing my brew cart. I'm pretty sure I will now sell off a good chunk of my all-grain brewing equipment. :( I may have some seriously good deals on equipment soon, so if you are a brewer with some money to spend pm me for info... *sigh*

OH! I'm sorry. I thought you brew cart went well...unless a brew cart doesn't do what I think it does.

I'll just shut up now.

Why do you have to sell it?

Also, that sucks. I hate it when things come together and then deteriorate.

My stepdad's attitude toward Christmas is really starting to annoy me. He says, "It's all about presents with you girls. All Christmas is is stuff to you. blah blah blah"

Well, we decorate the tree. Does he? no. Does he help put up lights outside? no. Does he help bake cookies, write Christmas cards or decorate the house? No. Does he go with us to the capitol to see the trees? No. Is he there Christmas morning to open presents? Yes. So who is really the one who makes the holidays all about presents? hmmm.

I am just so annoyed with scrooges because they have scrooged the holiday for themselves. "It's all about stress and money" well that's because you make it that way. "The kids want so much for Christmas!" so what? you don't have to get them everything, hell you don't have to get them anything. Make Christmas about family time. It isn't like there is some law about how Christmas is celebrated.

When I was a kid presents at Christmas were amazing! My mom would break the bank (and her credit limit) getting us presents. So a few years ago she just breaks down and says you kids expect so much for Christmas blah blah blah. Well, whose fault is that? If you set that standard that is what they will expect. That is not the gift receivers fault that you built up that kind of expectation. But you can also change it. Will there be disappointment, yes but that is ok. It's better than ruining the holiday by being crabby because you can't live up to the expectations you created.

Christmas should not just be about presents but if you are going to transition from presents to something else, you better be willing to engage in the "something else".

Whew /rant

That's the one thing that was made clear to me and my siblings growing up: Christmas was about family. Not the presents, not the decorations. Family, and being grateful for the one you have. You may not always agree with them or like them, but at least at Christmas you appreciated that they were in your life.

My parents were always like "Chistmas is going to be slim this year"...they said that every year although it usually wasn't true. They always had at least 1 "big-ticket" item for me, my brother and my sister. For us though, Christmas was about all the time BEFORE that day. We had a tradition called "little boxes". My mom had 24 small boxes with a slip of paper in each one. We'd take turns picking one per day until Christmas. We had stuff like Make Christmas Cookies, See Christmas lights, Watch a movie, Play Hide and Seek (Loved that one), Do a puppet show, Sing Carols, Make a Pizza, Play a game together, etc. From Dec 1st-24th. I looked forward to it every year and it was a way to make sure we did things as a family every day until Christmas Day.

I think this is a fantastic tradition! Any qualms about adopting it into my own family?

My mom does the same crap. She always says she'll cut down the spending, always stresses about Christmas being "perfect", about getting people exactly what they want. Stupid needless stress over what should be a peaceful day.

Also getting sick of her and my sister harassing me about going to mom's house. I live 5 hours away; I don't feel like it. Everyone seems to want other people over, but everyone wants to stay home. No one in my family wants to go anywhere this year, but some are intent on others coming to their house. Doesn't ask if you're not willing to give. That's why no one's invited over here. The only family I'm going to lives 20 minutes away, and that's who we're spending Christmas with.
