So...I played Cataclysm to see if this crappy game has gotten any better. Nope. For all intents and purposes, it's exactly the same. Ooooo, some minor changes to the world map backed up by a new opening cinematic. Two new races which are pretty much the same as all the old races, except that now all the TF fanboys have something new to masturbate to.

No, I take that back. They did change something. They made the world's easiest game even easier. Why even have the first 79 levels anymore if you're going to get rid of things like weapon skills, and give eleventy kajillion xp for each quest? Seriously, you can level to 60 in a week of casual play now. And that's if you're NOT an obsessed nerd.

Read: Grinding is hard, challenging gameplay. I also hate quests.

I never thought grinding was hard, just tedious and boring. But I did enjoy the quest stories.
Which, to me, was the biggest change made in the shattering. It's now possible to level 1 to 85 without tedium and boredom. The difficulty curve isn't that much different than it was before, really. Just that quests are more abundant and involved, and the flow was dramatically improved.

The non-instanced portion of the game is very solo-friendly, which I can see as a point of contention about a MMO game in general. Not that it's anti-social on its own, necessarily, but it allows people to be extremely anti-social and still succeed.

The dungeons, on the other hand, are an increased challenge when you are level-relevant, which is actually kind of refreshing.

I don't play WoW. I don't understand it, I don't get the appeal, I don't know the lore, the history, it never sucked me and I don't want to know about it. I don't know the slang, it's like an entirely new language to me.

I'm not ranting about that. But! I am ranting about my friend who only talks about WoW, skips class to play WoW, gets depressed about WoW, and insists on doing all these things to me despite the fact that the only thing I can possibly say is "I...see..." since it makes no sense to me at all! She has friends who play WoW, friends in WoW, so why? Why is she telling me? I have explained time and again that I don't care, and I don't want to hear about it because it makes the conversation very dull and one-sided but she insists on it!

AGGGGH JUST SHUT UP ALREADY I DON'T CARE THAT YOUR GEAR IS T5. I DON'T KNOW WHAT IT MEEEEEEEEEANS!
I played - and play - WoW and I can't fucking stand it when people talk about the game in conversation. I'll discuss some game changes here and there, but I don't care about your guild exploits in X dungeon. I don't care.
I got a text at three in the morning that she couldn't sleep. She was stressed about a patch that was coming for Cataclysm. Just shoot me.
I play with my roommate, so we will talk, but mostly not when other people are around. Seems kind of dick to leave them out of the conversation.

Cata dungeons in particular are a real challenge and it's awesome. Throne of the Tides and Stonecore are definitely two of my favorite dungeons now.

My right foot really hurts. I'm starting to fear I have the same mother has, plantar fascitiis. She is getting better thanks to using some particular insoles...

the problem for me is that, if I use any, my bad leg hurts a lot... :S

This has little to do with me in particular, but I still thought I'd rant a bit.

My sister got an invitation to the christmas concert hosted by the King and Queen of Belgium at the royal palace. Instead of attending, she RSVP'd that she can't make it, and went to Cancun to get a tan.

Okay, so the invitation came out of the blue, her trip was planned and paid for well in advance, and moving the departure dates around would have cost a surprising amount of money and caused inconvenience, but COME ON... That girl seriously needs to get her priorities straight. Uhh, I mean, that's what our mother says.

They only invited her so that they could have her tickets seized and use them for themselves, leaving her to carry on an elaborate charade impersonating them (Queen and King) to the public when they were out of the country.

It wasn't in fucking Bruges was it? That place is like a fairy tale.

I think it was in Brussels. If not for the trip, my sister would have been in Paris at the time, and at least I remember her talking on the phone about the expense of getting tickets to Brussels and back in addition to the fee for rescheduling her flight to Mexico.

Hmm... You know, you might be right. Because my sister looks exactly like the Queen and King of Belgium. And after the charade, the deep emotional scars left from the horror of getting to be royalty for at least one evening would doubtlessly have shattered her life, and left her deeply depressed. She would have gone on a three-week drinking binge, become an alcoholic, loose her job, and ended up as that crazy old hag at the other end of some sleazy bar, muttering something about a conspiracy to make her belgian royalty.

Damn, Mexico just might have saved her life!

Belgium!?!?!

Gasp!

This is SO not a serious screen play.
Which part? The one where my sister got the invitation, or the one where it was all a ploy to substitute her for the Queen and King of Belgium? The former is true, the latter might be true - we all know how crafty those belgians can be. And if computer games have taught me anything, it's that a creature with 'King' or 'Queen' as a prefix or suffix is usually just a more powerful version of the base creature. Of course, these are named creatures (Albert II and Paola), so it is possible that they have written personalities which may differ from the norm.

You can understand her doubt though, right? I mean, you can't trust those shifty Belgians.

Afterall, they share a border with the Dutch!

I was reffing Hitchhiker's Guide :(

no one gets me!
CTRL+Z! CTRL+Z! CTRL+Z! Damn, doesn't work. I guess this version of life doesn't come with that feature enabled.

You know, my sister's boyfriend who was to be her avec to the concert was rather reluctant to re-schedule their flight to Mexico. So, if it were to happen one day that they were on an outing and my sister left the car to go to the 'restroom' while he stayed inside, and then the car would explode... Some people over here might consider that a form of carmic retribution.

Just saying.

Ha! I find myself looking for Cmd-Z when I'm drawing on paper sometimes. It's so stupid, but automatic.

I would LOVE a search function on actual physical file cabinets.

Archaic pieces of crap and futility!

I think the most annoying thing about working at a college is the students who assume their time is more valuable than anyone else's.

Today, I currently have 30 projects in flux at one point or another. All are campus critical. This afternoon, a student walks into my office and demands that I show him how to make his portfolio webpage using whatever the newest Microsoft WYSIWYG editor, since the main lab is currently unmonitored (which doesn't make much difference, as the average lab monitor has no idea how to develop a webpage, especially in that software). I try to explain to the student that not only have I never used the software, but he might be better off trying the help files and learning it himself, since I'm busy with other things. He responds by saying how useless I must be as an IT professional if I can't do his homework for him, acting like he could do my job far better, given the chance.

Don't worry, I just realised a way of making the file much lighter. The "5 to 7 hours to load" clip has uploaded in a little more than half an hour! ^_^
