ok my list

Garden State
Gone in 60 seconds
Jurassic Park
Grease
The Last Samurai
Princess Bride
Robin Hood men in tights
The Devils Advocate
Saved
Mr Hollands Opus

These are my favorites because I can never turn them off if I run into them on TV and never mind watching them again and again.

Oh and Batmanuel that list deserves a 10/10

Right, and you said "favourite," not "what do you think are the best movies?" Do you honestly think I believe Killer Klowns is a great or even good movie? Good lord, no.

And have you seen Trick 'r Treat? It's one of the best damn horror flicks I've seen in years. It doesn't take itself seriously and feels like Creepshow, in the series of short stories.

Right, you want a list of movies I think are the best? Here:

Shawshank Redemption
Pan's Labyrinth
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
The Incredibles
The Iron Gian
As Good as it Gets
Good Will Hunting
Seven Samurai
Road to Perdition
The Matrix

Not that it matters, right? I could list, say, Schiendler's List - which is an amazing movie - but I wouldn't want to watch it all the time. In fact, watching it once is good enough for me, not just because of its length but how heart-wrenching it was. But, you said "favourite," which is so goddamn different from what's "good" that ranking (in other words, judging) someoene's movies is ridiculous. There is personal tastes, personal history, opinion, all sorts of factors that play into why a movie is someone's "favourite," which is why this entire thread is poointless.

In no particular order:

1. Lord of the Rings trilogy
2. Star Wars original trilogy
3. Casablanca
4. Schindler's List
5. Pianist
6. Amélie
7. Hot Fuzz
8. Shaun of the Dead
9. All Monty Python movies (esp. Monty Python and the Holy Grail, and The Meaning of Life)
10. Iron Man
11. Gone With the Wind
12. The Great Dictator
13. Several Disney animated films, including Princess and the Frog, Lion King, Aladdin and Hercules.
14. One Bridge Too Far
15. The Great Escape
16. The Magnificent Seven
17. Pirates of the Caribbean, the film as well as the trilogy
18. The first three Indiana Jones movies. The fourth one is good, but not among the best.
19. Porco Rosso
20. Kill Bill, vol. 1

Honourable mentions go to Princess Bride, Blues Brothers, Willow, 300, Tuntematon sotilas ('The Unknown Soldier'), Arn movies, Uuno Turhapuro comedies, Jurassic Park, History of the World Part 1 and other movies that didn't make the cut.

In the spirit of stopping stuff before it starts:

Nick: I think you might be taking a rather silly thread and turning it into something far to serious and far to personal. Perhaps you might want to sit this one out or at the very least have that proverbial cold beer and chill.

I really avoided that since I didn't mean to offend you at all. I think a lot of miscommunication kind of came because my favorite movies are usually best. I don't count "rewatchability" as my favorite at all. I like good movies that challenge me and take an emotional toll on me more than something I can put on in the background. The movies I've seen the most times would probably be a dead heat between Norm McDonald classic "Dirty Work" and "Talledega Nights: The Legend of Ricky Bobby". Sometimes these things intersect though! I think Ghostbusters and Die Hard would probably crack my top 10, but they are also great movies.

It's really lame and weird to think old movies are on some weird different plane. They're still movies! They are very different, granted, but a movie from 1943 compared to a movie from 2010 isn't much different than comparing Hot Tub Time Machine to No Country for Old Men.
Lawlz, that's not the point. If I included all of my favorite older movies, my list would be like fifty films long. I had trouble paring it down to twenty-some as it was.

But okay if I must, I'm-a go ahead and complete that shit with:

I fucking ADORE all of the Marx Brothers films from The Cocoanuts (1929) through to A Night In Casablanca (1946) with the notable exception of Room Service (1938) which was NOT written for the brothers and frankly is, aside from a few gags delivered by Harpo, painful to watch. Of course, some films are better than others. The more prominent the love interests, the more bogged down their films tended to be. If only the audiences of the time could have been trusted just to laugh.
The Treasure of the Sierre Madre (Bogey's greatest, in my humble opinion)
Harvey ('You've also got the screwiest uncle who ever stuck his puss in the nut house!')
Some Like It Hot ('I'd like to BORROW a cup of that sugar!' BEST AND MOST CLASSY SEX COMEDY EVER, PERIOD)
The Odd Couple ('It's twelve floors, not eleven!')
The Great Escape
Sting
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
The Thin Man
After the Thin Man (Brilliant villain ;D)
Another Thin Man ('He smells like a dog - he smells like Asta!')
The Miracle of Morgan's Creek (This film has a guy named Kockenlocker - I kid you not)
Libeled Lady
Arsenic and Old Lace ('You'll like the bodies in my attic! NONE of them are gentlemen!')
The Lemon Drop Kid
Road To Morocco
Road To Utopia
Road To Rio

Charade ('Which view would you prefer?' 'The one you're blocking!')
The Man Who Came To Dinner (I watch this every Christmas. It drives most people I know nuts but I happen to consider it one of the most hilarious films ever based on a play).
Gunga Din (yeah it's a racist old film, but Grant turns in one of his goofiest roles aside from maybe Mortimer Brewster in Arsenic and Old Lace)
The Philadelphia Story
Pat and Mike
('Why don't 'e examine me?!')
Bringing Up Baby ('I can't give you anything but LOVE ... baby; dream a while, scheme a while', etc.)
Cool Hand Luke
Nothing Sacred
('I will remove you from the LAND of the LIVING!')
Seven Samurai
The Hidden Fortress
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer
('I know a man ...')
My Favorite Blonde
My Favorite Brunette
(God I love this film ... I wish there was a decent print of it still around. Regardless, Hope does his thing and he does it well. Peter Lorre lends his usual awesomeness)
Casablanca
The Lost World
(1924) (I'm a big fan of the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle story - read it four times - and I bought the silent film on DVD for cheap years ago. Absolutely love it!)
The Gold Rush
The Great Dictator
Modern Times
City Lights
(that boxing scene is one of the most hilarious fucking things to ever be committed to film)
Mr. Smith Goes to Washington
Rear Window
The Magnificent Seven
His Girl Friday
Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein
(I don't care how cheesy it was, that movie is a goddamn gem)
It's A Wonderful Life (this one used to bug me a little, but I've grown to appreciate it over the years, especially since it features one of my two favorite actors of Golden Age Hollywood - the other one being Grant)
The Paleface ('Gimme some water ... in a dirty glass!)
Adam's Rib

Mind, I've seen most of these movies literally dozens of times. I had the greatest big sister of all time growing up. Well, still do, lol. She rented boatloads of old movies from the local library 'cause our parents were all uptight and shit, and old movies (what with the Hays Code and all) were great in our house, so we watched some really cool shit. Nowadays when I hear someone talk trash about old movies, I want to hang myself by the shoelaces until dead.

Oh shit, I remembered another one already. Destry Rides Again (starring James Stewart) not only has an epic catfight, it's funny as shit.

I admittedly am horribly under-watched(the movie version of underread?) with movies before 1960 or so, but have you seen Sunrise? I really really love that movie.

And this is why you don't have a right to judge things that others enjoy....
So, fuck you and your judgemental bullshit.
I'll just leave this here.[/QUOTE]

That's different for two reasons: one, I'm not actively bashing any comic that someone enjoys. I didn't say The Maxx, for example, was a bad comic. It was just too weird for me. I know a lot of people enjoy the hell out of it and I'm not going to go out of my way to bash it or them for it. That's a totally different ball of wax than what Charlie does on a regular and frequent basis. And second, that post was created as part satire.

Lets keep the thread somewhat on topic. Nick if you have a problem with Charlie take it to pm's but leave it out of this thread. The threads intent is CLEAR. If someone doesn't like it then they don't have to post in it. Getting offended over it isn't going to do any good and really, it's just not that big of a deal if one guy doesn't like someones movie choices. I don't wanna see anymore attacks in here.

:awesome:

Also: I forgot to add FARGO to my list :(

I've watched it so many times...
Fuck your taste in movies. Also, your mom is a Nazi

Is it sad that I think Fargo was really good only once?

Nick, if he does this all the time, what else did you expect? He lives only by his nature. It's not much, but it's all he's got. Would you take that away from him?

No shit right? Drop it guys. Seriously.

As to watching only like Fargo the one time? Sure, different strokes for different folks and all that. Theres some really odd movies I can watch over and over with very little rhyme or reason. Some of them are just... SO bad. I've watched "Jeepers Creepers" like a hundred times. It sucks but it has brief moments of brilliance that I just love.

E

Element 117

No, I've watched it like 10 times. With each time, it gets worse. I should have stopped it at 1.

All right, I'll get in on this awesome judging action.

1) Cool Hand Luke - This is my favorite movie, with my favorite actor. I could include lots of other Newman movies, but I think I'll just list this one.
2) Fargo
3) The Empire Strikes Back - Yeah, I know, common nerd pick, but it was a big part of my life
4) Short Circuit 1 & 2 - To be honest, I think 1 was a better movie, but I enjoyed 2 more.
5) The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly
6) The Big Lebowski
7) Pulp Fiction
8) No Country For Old Men - This is starting to get a little Cohen heavy
9) One Hour Photo - Why? Fuck you. (ooo, ooo, oooo)
10) Little Miss Sunshine

The Godfather (1972) Haven't seen it
The Godfather: Part II (1974) Haven't seen it
Network (1976) Haven't seen it
12 Angry Men (1957) Haven't seen it
Annie Hall (1977) Haven't seen it
The Third Man (1949) Haven't seen it -Never heard of it
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's … (1975) Haven't seen it
The Silence of the Lambs (1991) Great movie
No Country for Old Men (2007) Great movie
2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) Haven't seen it
Once Upon a Time in the West (1968) Haven't seen it
Apocalypse Now (1979) Not sure if I've seen it-
Die Hard (1988) Fantastic movie
Dr. Strangelove or: How I L… (1964) Haven't seen it
Goodfellas (1990) Haven't seen it
Road to Perdition (2002) Haven't seen it
Rocky (1976) Great movie
A Serious Man (2009) Haven't seen it
Taxi Driver (1976) Think I might of seen it-but it might have been some clips from a biography show
Hmmm. . . looks like I need to adjust my Netflix queue.

If you don't like the Coen Bros, I just really don't know what else to say.
That's ok, I hold no value in your opinions of movies i like, or dislike. I do think going for a brisk 30 minute walk/jog will help your heart last longer, though. :)
