[Webcomic] PVP Discussion

Now that's a good question. We don't really know anything about her character that would keep her from moving on a whim, do we?
http://www.pvponline.com/2011/01/28/over-qualified/ Jade's moving to Seattle! We could have avoided a long drawn out process of showing each character go through the pains of travel with one strip. You have Cole say "I'm tired of living in Texas. We should move." Then Brent replies "What are you talking about? We don't live in Texas. We live in Seattle." Cole: "Since when?" Brent: "Since always. We never knew why you thought we lived in Texas but we all just played along."

I think your spoiler tag essentially explains the author of the strip as well.

It's one thing when you improve the art by adding depth and perspective and all, but if you do nothing to add to the story (see Wapsi Square, Evil Inc.), you're just doing the smoke-and-mirrors routine.

I think it was indeed another off panel event.

I wonder if her breaking up with him caused her to level up.

ahaha. twice! he did it twice! lets see if we can go for the triple, and explain how jayce got involved in organised crime and disappeared forever.

Which is odd because he still had the skull after he leveled up.

There is nothing stopping him from changing his shirt I suppose but considering that he grew up by several years in an instant I would have expected the shirt to change at the same time.

Unless it was an heirloom item, he had to replace all his gear. Running crap randoms until he earned enough tokens to get the gear to get into the better instances.

I am surprised that Cole and the gang isn't worried that somewhere down the road someone will discover the Savage Dragon's head buried in the basement (from the time where Skull went on a rampage at the mall and punched the Savage Dragon's head off)

Francis couldn't tell the difference between an error message and a text sent by a human? Is this actually the robot Francis?

He's older now, and doesn't understand those techno-thingies that all the kids talk about.
Yes, aging causes retroactive techno-amnesia. Former gaming nerds capable of building humanoid robots suddenly lose all ability to understand technology when the reach the doddering age of 20.

Kurtz you hack. He could at least have made it a real message from Marcy. "Can't talk now. I'm in class." There, a real human message that can be completely misunderstood without having to change what used to be the core of Francis' character.

Well, there's the fact that he tries to make his characters more realistic in appearance. Which sometimes works, but mostly... I dunno, doesn't. I don't know why.

Also, I have to say that his choice of using more drab colours lately is kinda off-putting. You know, kinda like in all those video games where the colour scheme involves only rust brown and urban decay grey.

For those of you who criticize his writing this was posted on twitter yesterday: Very excited about an article I wrote for webcomics.com about my new writing process. Should go up Tuesday.

I'm intrigued by how he writes his stories and check out Webcomics today where he writes:

Scott Kurtz: Improving my Writing

My resolution for the new year is to improve my writing in 2011 as much as I improved my art in 2010. Which is to say that i’m very happy with the levels to which I pushed myself creatively last year when it came to the visual style of PvP. And I want to push myself as hard this year in regards to my writing.
I’ve been unsatisfied with the way I write PvP. I think a part of that is because as artists we try to always keep a nice level of dissatisfaction with our work, just to prevent ourselves from becoming stale. But beyond that, I’ve had a growing sense of dread that PvP is starting to get left behind a bit. I’m seeing a lot of new talent come into the comics scene who are just blowing me away with the way their comedy is constructed and delivered.

There you go. Looking forward his new attention on writing.

Well, he's not wrong, but the muted colors and drab writing don't help. The starkness of black and white was a strength, in a lot of ways.

That or PvP will be his next Ding!

Well, you might not get another Samwise story (although I thought he stopped that strip to focus on a graphic novel in addition to the children's book he was writing) but we will get his new strip "The Trenches" coming soon.
