Well done fade, what kyu are you now?
Related news, just found out I can't afford to go to our national tournament in july. On the upside, guess who gets to run the dojo for 2 weeks while sensei is away?? Can I get a hells yeah?
5th Kyu. Grats on your teaching gig. On the same note, our team DOMINATED the All-South karate championship. We took first over all, and first or second in almost every event. We beat LSU (ha ha, take that bigger, richer school!), USA, UNO, Univ. of Houston and more.

holy shit, just did 8 rounds of hard sparring. I've never felt so good and bad at the same time. Tomorrow is going to be a bitch tho :D

I can already imagine what tomorrow morning will be like for you.

Mind: "Okay, time to get up!"
Body: "...go fuck yourself."

This starts as an Epic fail, but turns into an EPIC WIN for me...

I'm walking home from TNG's place. Taking my usual route when I hear over my music footsteps approaching. This idiot (for lack of a better word) tries to grab my backpack which is attached to me. I manage to nail (either him or his buddy, not sure which as this happened quite quick) with my keys and I take off running. Needless to say I got away. WOOT!!!

I might be tiny, but I'm sure as hell VERY fiesty. :p

Holy crap! Good to hear you are ok, but damn, I can't imagine the adrenaline from that situation.

Nicely done, MYB! Too many people don't have the fighting spirit necessary for that kind of situation when it's presented.

That being said, a snatch-and-grab robber is about the only time when you could get away with that... they rely on blitzkrieging their victims. Armed robbery? Different story entirely - too many folks get shot or knifed over their wallet's contents because of some nervous young punk who's trying to be bigger than he is.

Glad to hear that you're okay! You might want to think about altering your route home - change it up some, if you can.

Thanks and yeah I will be changing my usual route home.
That key trick always works. *high five!!*

Depending on the situation I believe it does. *high five!!*

Good job!

Did better than me when I was mugged, although I think I won in the end for 2 reasons. 1) after he king hit me in the head with a brick, the look on his face when I turned around still standing and said WTF. 2) When the police rocked up to take me back to the station, Mr criminal mastermind and his posse decided to come walk back past the scene of the crime. Quick flash of the lights and a few questions later he got thew free ride to the station instead of me....except he was in cuffs

It took 20 months of unemployment, most of which I spent scrambling, working as many contract jobs as I could get my hands on, and fighting tooth and nail just to get someone to interview me; but I finally got a job. Turns out all those itty-bitty short term contracts I did at Microsoft paid off, because I got a long-term (permanent-ish) contract through the sister company of my contracting agency at Microsoft.
The really sad thing is, 10 years ago I dropped out of college where I was working on my MIS degree because I didn't think I wanted to work at a company like Microsoft, analyzing data and such. Now, 10 years of working my way from a bottom rung call center rep to call center management and operations work (which was mainly data/business analysis work), and here I am, at Microsoft, analyzing data and such. /headdesk.
Oh, and to top it all off, the soul-crushing depression that I struggled with for four years finally cleared last weekend. Having a job with less pressure/responsibility and more reward (we're talking compensation and benefits here) is an amazing thing.

Glad to hear things are looking up, Gared.

So are all Microsoft employees actually Borgs? I have a running bet with a friend over this.

I haven't seen any indication of Borgification, but since I haven't seen any of the employees naked, nor will I, the question remains.
Good to see everyone here too. I've found that I don't really need the mental break that the forum provides unless I have a job, but when I do, it's a great way to break the monotony of reporting.

Cooked a 16oz Porter House steak last night... I cooked it a little long but MAN it was goooood.
Mmm... steak...
I have recently discovered that there are absolutely no decent steak houses in the entire Greater Seattle-Tacoma Metroplex unless you want to shell out $100+ per plate. Hell, one place didn't even bring me the right cut of steak, let alone cooked properly or seasoned appropriately. So, in the absence of decent dine-out options, I've learned to cook steak for myself, and damn if it ain't good. Little salt and pepper - if the quality of the meat is good, otherwise salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, little bit of brown sugar, paprika, oregano, cumin - cast iron skillet on Med-High with some butter, sear on one side until the steak comes up easily (i.e. not leaving bits of steak on the bottom of the pan and/or having to tug at the damn thing to move it), sear on the other until the steak comes up easily again, and depending on thickness, 5 - 10 minutes in a 450 degree oven. Rest 5 - 10 minutes, serve with roasted potatoes and whichever green veggie is in season at the moment, and you have a damn good meal.
It's just too bad that steak specifically and meat in general has become so damn expensive around here that I can only really afford steak once every couple months. Hell, I can only really afford meat every two or three days. Dangit, now I'm craving steak and I can't afford it until next month.

There's a little ice house that I frequent that does decent steaks for less than $20 a plate. But their problem is that if you get there after 6pm the coals are too cool to give the steak that good sear.

Do you have a Texan to Washingtonian translation for "ice house?" Round here, ice houses are those abandoned historical buildings along the railroad tracks and near the port where they used to store ice that drug dealers, meth heads, and homeless people use for shelter and invariably light on fire.
