So you guys got me thinking that I might not have enough attack power for solo targets. Does it make my character a bit a niche utility player in the group that way? I was thinking about replacing my Encounter power (if I'm allowed) with something a bit more targeted. Having tried a couple of combat scenarios, I can see how it might be beneficial to have some extra power. Otherwise I can pick something up at level 3. Advice?

Try to strike a balance. As a striker, you'll typically wanna focus on single targets but fun powers like Five Storms are hard to pass by.

Incidentally, if you're thinking of changing, Open the Gate of Battle is a fun power that always got hilarious tabletalk from me. :)

OK, I think I'd like to drop Scattering Leaves for Open the Gate of Battle. I think I'd like to change Whirling Mantis Step with Spinning Leopard Maneuver too. Hopefully that adds a little more pizzazz to my character. Although I apparently lose almost all the minor crowd-control abilities with those changes. I didn't get to do too much of that in our little test run but I got the impression it may not be a vital ability.

Switching from Whirling Mantis Step to Spinning Leopard Maneuver you lose a small amount of control and gain a large amount of damage, but control isn't your forte so it's a great trade.

And that brings up another point, whenever you gain a level you may retrain: 1 skill, 1 power and 1 feat.

So if SLM isn't what you like, you can retrain it to another attack once you reach 2nd level.

I think I'll like having a bit more power, but it is nice to know I can retrain if needed. I've been doubting my choice on the Runner feat, but we'll try it out for a while.

Feats I took with my monk:

Unarmored Agility: +2 feat bonus to AC as long as you're wearing cloth. I took it because I often found myself in the the middle of melee and wanted to have some survivability.
Defensive Mobility: +2 [untyped bonus] to AC against opportunity attacks. I took this for the same reasons, plus what good is all that monkish mobility if I can't use it without fear of opportunity attacks?

I also took a multiclass feat but you probably don't wanna get too involved in those right off the bat.

Yeah, I have been going through the character creator to update and ended up swapping out Runner for Unarmored agility. I am actually wondering if it would be better to get a +2 to Will instead, since I have an AC of 18 already and my Will is only 13. I can't seem to get the house-ruled feats in, though, or the Iron Parry feat to grant me the AC bonus for wielding a club. I also didn't see where to add in the Monastic back story.

Actually, maybe I'll drop Iron Parry and pick up the will bonus feat. Damn there really are too many choices.

Is the Psionic Power handbook correct of the Downloadable character creator? I'm guessing the handbook, since the creator probably has beta-test data? They give different damage dice for the daily power SLM.

If there's a disparity, go by the creator info. There have been several things they've changed based on playtesting; Magic Missile canonically is completely different than it used to be. Which is, ironically, exactly what is was in 3.5e DnD.

Alright. Still no house-ruled stuff or back story, but I think I've generally got it. Here's the pdf (with the wrong damage listed for Spinning Leopard Maneuver?) and the character creator file. hopefully I'm done now. pog and macros also updated. Is it Tuesday yet?

Online compendium says the character creator is right. Might be worth it still...

Haha, we'll see what happens when you actually PLAY your character. I'd wager most retrains come before third level, as players get a feel for group interactions and their character's role/strengths/weaknesses.

One thing you SHOULD change - the bonus language you selected is not something tat will ever come up in the game world we're in, it's setting-specific to Eberron or Forgotten Realms or something. It'd be a waste of a bonus language if you didn't switch to dwarven or elven or draconic or deep speech or goblin or something.

I suppose I wouldn't mind picking something that fits my back-story. HC, what races are in or around Kabi? I suppose if it is a big enough city it doesn't matter much but if there is some race that populates that area, I'll adopt that language.

Languages available to be selected to all PC's;

Common
Elven
Dwarven
Goblin
Giant
Feyish
Devilish (Tieflings natural language)

These languages are not available to be selected by any PC's
French
Halfling

These languages may only be selected by those who are trained in Religion
Draconic
Midnight (This is the language spoken by the undead)

Bastion would be exposed to all the regularly available languages on Kabi, but with a greater emphasis on Devilish and Common, with less exposure to Fey and Giant.

Sent from my netbook with limited internet access for the next few days several hundred miles from home.

Then assume that I took Fey instead of Primordial, it makes a lot more sense.

Solaria knows Common, Elven, and Fey, and will possibly take the Linguist feat down the road.

It is interesting and somewhat TERRIFYING to note that Solaria is the kind of character who will likely be making daily journal entries of some kind.

To round out the languages we have covered I can take draconic if that is cool Hc. I'll weave it into Ralts' horribly delayed back story as well.

To ever finds this missive, please deliver it to my parents in Persolaquo. I am the last of my band of companions, and my death is inevitable, the next meal of the dreaded laundry monster...

The laundry monster is gonna become our magebear, isn't it?
No typically I choose a common animal and make it so terrifying that my places become afraid of the regular animal in real life.

Though I am seriously leaning towards a Gruffalo...

Good news though, I should no longer have to mute myself at 10EST. I just can't get carried away with volume.
