Minor victory thread

Been actually going to the gym consistently for over a month now. Haven't done that since HS. Plus I've been playing a lot of basketball and getting decent again after not touching a ball in 5 years.

I am feeling pretty good right now.

Congratulations makare!

My own minor victory- blog views have gone from the highest daily view of 20 to 400! Who knew one small link would lead to other people linking, etc, etc? I've gotten some nice compliments on the tutorials and one said the rhino was "spot on". I couldn't be happier (well, I could, but this is a nice ego boost).

So, I took a second volunteer job as a website developer at an independent Nintendo site called Nintendo World Report. I'm mostly going to be involved in fixing site issues and making the site run more smoothly going forward.

However, I also get to post articles (like the one I linked above). So, yay, Nintendo shill? :)

Nothing like an excellent shave to put you in a good mood!
Just my luck I've got to skip mine before work tonight. >_<

But yeah, none of that overpriced plastic crap and chemical-laden goo for me. I go old school with a vintage Gillette DE razor (newest one in my collection is from Q4 1968), shave soap, and brush.

Very nice. I prefer straight razors but that is a very nice DE.

The '68 is a Slim Adjustable. I've also got a '60 Fat boy adjustable and a '57 Red Tip. All are in excellent condition. Hit 'em with scrubbing bubbles every few days keeps them nice and shiny.

What's with the recent popularity of retro shaving equipment? Lifehacker used to have a post every other day about it.

I'd say it's not a popularity issue as it is an increase of awareness and communication. I've been doing it for decades and haven't really noticed an increase in popularity just advertisement.

I miss the smell of shave soap. When I was a little girl I used to play with my grandpop's cup of soap and his brush. I thought it was so cool.

I think some of the appeal of retro shaving is spending $60-120 bucks for a razor that you can hand down. Or spend that much on replacement razor-heads for the next 6-blade technology razor from Gillette.

The reason why those gillette things cost so much is because one head lasts like 3 months. At least it does for me. Sometimes longer. Also, I work at a University, and every fall they give them away in welcome boxes at the bookstore, so there's that.

An 8-pack of Fusion blades is ~$25. more if you have the battery-powered version. How long will that last you? I got a lot of 20 packs of Gillette Super Stainless blades off eBay for $20. At 10 blades a pack and 1 blade a week, that's nearly 4 years worth.

Wait---how is ebay a fair comparison to retail? I don't care to argue about it anyway, because I'd use whichever I had personally. I just find the whole phenomenon curious. It's the latest Moleskine, and it usually pops up on the same sites that used to go nuts on Moleskines. Not that I think that means there's anything wrong with Moleskines or retro razors.

But you dislike them. Admit it! They're sexual!

I agree ebay isn't a fair comparison.

The other day this guy came through and wanted to switch to an electrical site. There were none available but he said he would give my coworker and me a fifty dollar tip if we could work it out for him. Last night I managed to get him some sites. On the way to look at them we were chatting about GFP and he made a statement "damn liberals!" I didn't say anything though. When I got to work today my coworker had a check for a hundred dollars with the to section left blank. When I saw the guy later I thanked him and told him I was going to sign it over to the democrat party! Haha. He said "how dare you!" we had a good laugh.

I got fifty dollahs i got fifty dollahs!

I helped someone feel better when things were going poorly for them. Even though I barely know them, and I might have stuck my foot in my mouth a little at the end, I'm still super happy because I was helpful. :)

I just bought a thyme plant and made a mushroom omelet for lunch. Next I'm going out to get a new library card. THEN I'm coming home and cooking some of the vegetables I got from the farmer's market. Got me some purple bellpeppers... I've never seen a more pimptastic vegetable.

I'm three weeks into a four week exercise program and I am lookin' pretty good without a shirt on if I say so myself. :)

I wish I could make that kind of push to get back into shape. My doctor's advice, get on an exercise bike and go until I got tired, even if it's just 5 minutes, then add five seconds a day. I made it for all of one minute before being out of breath (cut me some slack I'm recovering from years of an undiagnosed lung infection.) I'm going a little slower than the doc suggested on adding time, but I'm up to 1:30 now.

Actually, that I'm able to make improvement at all could go in the major victory thread, but it's still frustrating to have to go so slow... yeah, I'm moving the rest of this post to a rant thread.

I'm just so skinny that I don't wanna wear T-shirts in the summer. Trying to fix that. My arms are still thin but definitely more... muscular, I guess. Toned?
