Glad to see my epic journey was noticed.

I built a wooden sword and off I went to find adventure... yet nary a beast to slay except the occassional pig.

Mmm bacon.

I gotta wonder whether you're both using different versions of the NVIDIA drivers.

Yep. Loaded em myself.

No monsters at this time, and you're lucky... when the sun goes down, a mere wooden sword is as good a defense as a "kick me" sign.

It was doing fine this morning but has started crashing again. I'm playing on a MP server with a friend that runs 1.5 and having issues again. This time, the screen just goes black instead of giving me some text file on my desktop.

That's usually what happens to me when I mean "crash." Changing the render distance to normal reduces that for me, but doesn't completely eliminate it. One of these nights I may try the memory thing.

I updated my nvidia drivers and that helped reduce it somewhat, but it still occurs. I'm watching Super 8 now but in going to give the memory thing a whirl when I get home.

Poked around a bit on the updated server. Noticed some things:

Elevators don't seem to work. Not sure about the rest of the craftbook stuff. (also rebuilt elevator to test/be sure nada).

Did a short venture in to the nether...and learned the hard way the magic carpet doesn't work there. Working as intended?

Must have a castle in hell...

Craftbook is definitely de-combobulated. No craftbook functions are... well, functioning. Minecart dispensers, boosters, cauldrons, switches, area toggles, all inactive. Also, magic carpet as Fnord says doesn't seem to work in the nether. Don't think this is by design, just.... the guy who wrote it never had to deal with the nether. I'd almost not be surprised if (and this is just off the top of my head) the magic carpet was still appearing/moving in the "real" world at the equivalent coordinates while you were in the nether.

Also, I've noticed no matter what nether portal I go into, it always puts me in the same place in the nether... at the gate that goes into castle gasbandia. I reactivated the nether gate at Central transit... walked through it, and found myself standing outside the portal to go back to gasbandia. Something's decidedly wonky here. I'm downloading the sunday automatic backup... just in case we need it later...

I am noticing some strangeness with portals and proximity to each other. There are two portals in Dwarftown. both are leading to the same exit in the nether. Played around poping in and out of the transit hub portal and the Gasbandia portal and was winding up in the same place.

I suspect portals somehow "tether" to each other. After an accident in the nether disabling the portal from Dwarftown and dieing and respawnign I found the dwarftown portal leading somewhere completely new. On disabling the new portal in the nether and reactivating the origional portal they seemed to regain the "tether" to each other.

Side note: Folk should feel free if they know where the Dwarftown portals are hidden feel free to visit the Dwarftown colony in the Nether!

There have been known issues in the past with nether portals within 16 blocks or so both leading to the same portal in the nether, but gasbandia and central transit are a good hike from each other... I'll try disabling the netherside portal gate and /home-ing out and see what happens from there... one of these nights.

If you build another portal in the nether at more or less the same spot following the 8:1 distance conversion, the two portals will tether properly; or at least, it did when I tested it with my nether portal in La Playa. Also, my nether portal is definitely more than 16 blocks away from the portal in Dwarftown. I don't know if it would work if the portals are within a 16 block radius.

You mean build a second portal at the same location as the first? On which side, "earth" or "Nether?"

I presume it doesn't matter, but in my case the second portal was built in the nether.

The first portal I built on was on 'earth,' which connected to the nether portal generated from fnordbear's Dwarftown portal. The portal I then built in the nether connected to my earth portal just fine.

... Ok, that's really confusing me. So you built a portal on earth, it connected to the dwarftown portal in the nether, which is presumably a very long way away from fnord's earthside portal to dwarftown... yet building another portal in dwarftown then connected to your earthside portal?

Sorry, I guess I worded that badly. I'll start from the beginning:

I built a portal in my beach house, which connected to a portal in the nether. That nether portal is the one I assume was originally tethered to the portal in Dwarftown. After getting back to the normal world, I got the real world coordinates of the portal in my beach house. I took those coordinates and converted them to their nether analog using the 8:1 distance conversion. Then I went back into the nether, went to those converted coordinates, and built a portal there. After going through that portal, I found it correctly tethered to the portal in my beach house.

Man, that's a pain in the ass... did you have to destroy/rebuild your earthsite portal, or did you just leave it active, build the new portal in the nether, and it fixed its target itself?

Ok, I used your example and it worked... the Central Transit nether portal is at nether coordinates -14, 57, -93 .... Gasbandia Castle's nether coordinates are -14, 58, -37

In case anybody goes looking for them.

I'm guessing that since they were only 60 nether-meters apart, the one may have affixed to the other because basically -14,x,-93 is solid netherrack in every direction, so it just found the nearest safe spot to use, which already had a portal... or maybe crap is just screwed. Regardless, I had to dig out a tunnel and a small room to put the portal in.

Adventure mode?
No, it was announced about a week ago that was getting pushed back to 1.8. 1.7 is basically pistons and bug fixes.

Aaaand it was nice having a current server version for all of 3 days.. heh.

It's nice to have a tool to harvest leaf blocks bona-fide, though. And being able to stack fences without using the dirt workaround will be nice too.

I don't understand what makes that "music box" work, is there a way to make a redstone cloth detector or something?

So... punchcard memory. Wow. Add that to the APU and LED display previous minecraft pioneers have made... we're that much closer to a functioning minecraft computer.
