Oh shit, custom Minecraft style. Big ups, Dave :)

-edit-

Although it feels weird that it's applied to the entire Games forum. Well, I guess you can't have a style devoted to a single thread.

Nope. It's the entire games forum or nothing. But at least it's indicative of the games section, yes?

Sorry, wasn't meant to be a complaint. I think it's fucking rad, both in the ability to have custom styles for the subforums and that it's a Minecraft style.

So 1.6 is out, and we're already at 1.6.2

More worrisome to me is that apparently servers are getting hammered, with CPU usage spiking something wicked. One theory floating about is that it's due to the new compression algorithm. Well, it doesn't really matter to me at the moment since we'll be stuck on 1.5 until Canary updates, but I hope it gets resolved soon as I want to play with the trap doors.

-edit-

That was quick. Looks like he's already fixed the CPU issue.

From our friends at multiplay - 1.6.4 might not be "the one."

Minecraft - v1.6.4 Update News & WARNING!
May 26 2011 18:08:07 by liv3d
With Minecraft version 1.6.4 been released we're about to make Vanilla available as a swappable Mod.

There are a number of issues with Minecraft 1.6 so we DO NOT recommend using this at all, however if you would like to test the new features heres how, but it is at your own risk
We do not recommend swapping to 1.6 at this time, due to the following issues:
  • High CPU when swapping between Nether and Normal World(s)
  • High chance of being stuck in a 'void' and never seeing your world when connecting, a reconnect sometimes fixes this
  • Getting stuck in a void when changing between your normal world and nether
    - Due to this we've currently set allow-nether=false by default, this can be changed in your profile if you wish.
  • You can't name your nether world
  • Can't load in your existing nether world in to the new system
  • Item pickups are broken
If you still want to switch to v1.6 you will need to create a new Vanilla profile, this can be done via:
  1. Clanforge -> Profiles -> New -> Game: Minecraft -> Mod: Minecraft Vanilla 1.6
  2. Edit this new profile to your liking, including setting your level-name to your existing level!
  3. You can then run this on your server via:
  4. Clanforge -> Servers -> Edit -> Game: Minecraft -> Mod: Minecraft Vanilla 1.6 -> Profile: Select your new profile -> Save
Update @ 27th May 13:00 BST - The Bukkit team are currently not updating to Minecraft v1.6.4 - Source

I think it's funny they felt the need to add cube-boobies to the femtoon.

I saw something similar a while back, and it was done with a 3D animation program.

As for minecraft on console, it'd be awesome, but they'd need JAVA on those platforms first, which MS and Sony probably don't want. They're unlikely to want to re-implement all of the game in C/C++ from Java, since that's what it's written in right now.

You'll see minecraft for Android first.

Minecraft is coming to Android, and it's being written in C++ to do that (or some other C language). Mojang hired a coder to port the game over. It's going to be shown at E3 (with Minecraft Chick at the booth) and it's debuting as a timed exclusive for the Experiea Play, then coming to Android phones as a whole.

The Android version won't be able to play multi-player with the PC version, but it will have a multiplayer with other Android players.

That seems rather asinine when you are going to have to host the server on a PC anyway.

From the interview I got the impression one of the Android devices would be acting as host. As far as I can tell it's not going to be exactly like the PC version.

Chances are good that the gameplay will be more directed, so it will be generalized enough to capture a greater market. Some of the existing fanbase will likely be disappointed, but all that's important is growing the fanbase and making more money.

I don't even want to know what kind of cramps people are going to get miming digging out a mountainside all evening.
Haha! Awesome. Some 2lb wrist weights and I could spend an hour a day punching holes through mountains.

Pretty amazing mob grinder. Relevant section starts around the 4" mark. Retrofitted the idea into my old mob grinder, and with some tinkering I've gotten it up to 25k drops/hour under near-ideal conditions. There's grinders out there that will get you faster drops, but they're also a lot bigger. Rather a pain in the ass to build (even with mods), but it is rather fun watching mobs fall to their doom from my observation decks.

I've been playing the singleplayer and digging out the cavern/dungeon that's under the area I built my dinky little house on. I also worked a glass corridor under the water just outside and that was a real pain. I have more fun exploring the caverns than I do building at the moment. I suppose I should check into the HF server when I get home.

The server's still running 1.5, just so you know.. if you updated to 1.6 it won't let you connect.

There was a roleplaying server my friend wanted me to join and they have instructions on how to roll back to 1.5 (which is what they just updated to). Do I need to download any of the mods or are they all server side?

All the mods we run are server side, unless you want to fly. I have "flying" enabled, but if you want to fly, you need a client mod. Most of us just get by with /warp and/or /mc (magic carpet) which don't need client mods.
