So you believe the police should interpret the laws and enforce them according to their interpretation?

Regardless, that's not how our system of government works. The executive branch makes sure the laws are followed. The judicial branch interprets the laws and applies them to individual cases. The legislative branch makes the laws.
The police likely fall under executive, so as much as they might like to act as judges, they really don't have the authority to do so.
Either you are suggesting that people change the law, or you are suggesting a fundamental change in the way our government operates. The police aren't allowed to "look the other way."
If a legislator writes a stupid law, they get to enforce it, or risk losing their jobs and worse.
