The EPIC WIN Thread 3: SON OF EPIC

Honestly? Science, history, or politics.

Wait..on second thought, I'm with Cheesy.

Nah, this prospective job I'm looking at is for a British company. My job would be to go to various Chinese cities and give presentations on certain US Universities to Chinese school officials in order to help recruit students to go abroad and study. I'd also have to wine and dine them. So basically, a University sales agent, although the job title is US project manager. Also, I'd be required to do all my presentations in Chinese, which I'm pretty confident I can do. I'll have the chance to save a lot of money since any work outside of Shanghai is paid for by the company (all travel, dining, hotel, etc. expenses).

I just worked on my painting for 5 goddamned hours solid.

It was really gratifying to see it all come together so nicely but my back hurts like NUTS.

Still some touch ups and minor glazes to be done but the painting could be finished and dry in like a week, no problem.
Excited to see it! :)

The one student of my mom's who was in the accident and sent to the ICU is going to make it. My mom is so happy about that. She is one of her favorites. It doesn't erase the loss of the others or the horror of how they died but at least there is one bright spot in the whole mess.

Today I was offered a job as a Systems Consultant at a local consulting firm!

Exciting news since I've been looking for office work of any kind (preferably financial/accounting) since the beginning of May, and particularly gratifying because today is ALSO the 9 year anniversary of my first shift at the grocery store where I still work.

Setting up a meeting with the owner/CEO for sometime over the next couple weeks to discuss details, but I should be a fulltime working stiff by the end of the month! :D My arrested development is coming to an end!

Fourth Kyu! I fucked up the the jump in Heian Godan, but I did okay for having practiced completely on my own for two months. My old sensei convinced me to go to the National camp (for 8 grueling hours of karate over 3 days, lead by Sensei Takayaki Mikami) and to test. I passed, but Sensei Mikami gave me a mark on the kata, which is like getting a B. Oh well.

On the downside, there was a heart attack at the camp. They handled it really well, though. They got all the kids out to a different room. Fortunately, we have a black belt doctor, and most of the New Iberia fire department in the club, so they did close to 100 reps or sets or whatever you call it of CPR until the ambulance came. They were able to get a weak pulse, and when the EMTs arrived they difibbed and got him going again and even somewhat conscious. It was an epic win. Not mine, but really impressive. First time in my life I'd ever seen anyone pretty much drop dead. And also the first time I've seen anyone brought back.

Nice one fade. Godan is my favourite of the Heian kata. How did you stuff the jump? wobbly landing or something?
My feet landed apart instead of crossed. I was so annoyed at myself afterwards. On the positive side, I got great scores on my kihon and kumite. But I always found those to be so much simpler than the kata.

Boom, full time employed. :D

Plus they're getting me and paying for a Blackberry. :)

If you have any say, avoid the new Torch. I'm very unhappy with mine. BUT! Like you, I got mine for free so I shouldn't complain too much, gift horses and all that... And smartphones are awesome in general. Congrats!

My novel is finished. Final word count: 105K

I've re-written and gone over the drafts easily 4 or 5 times. My wife and I went through it over the weekend to weed out any final kinks. I have a couple of other people reading it now, just for good measure, and to make sure that the writing flows well and is interesting. But bottom line: I'm done. Anything from here on out is just a minor tweak. I've contacted an artist to work on the cover art, and hopefully will have that part done by the end of August.

I've placed the first chapter on Google Docs. Feel free to take a look and let me know what you think :)
That's cool, who are you planning to submit it to?
