[Fixed] Where's my ignore button?

I disagree with Krisken constantly and I won't be ignoring him. That is not what I want the ignore function for.

Wtf seriously? Does every conversation that goes on for a while have to be reduced to the label of trolling? This is getting ridiculous.

It's really pretty silly. I disagree with Gas (and yes, makare too) all the time, but I'll be damned if I'll be ignoring him. There is a difference between disagreeing and hearing opinions and the herp a derp stupidity which dribbles consistently through the keyboards of a minority of posters here.

Side A: An ignore function for people is stupid. Just skip over the posts you don't like. What I really hate is dumb threads, and I should be able to block them.

Side B: No! An ignore function for threads is stupid. Just skip over the threads you don't like. What I really hate is dumb people, and I should be able to block them.

Me:

Difference between ignoring someone and ignoring a thread is that ignoring someone is as simple as just not reading it. Ignoring a spam thread requires clicking the actual thread every time you reload "New Threads" button, so that it won't flood in and push down real threads. Everytime it gets a new spam post, you have to click it again, close it again then hit New Threads again. When there are 5-9 spam threads going at once? You can see the problem.

I don't think anyone has not liked the ignore threads function. We have disagreed on why and which threads but over all I think that is generally supported. It is the ignore people thing that some have a problem with.

It's harder to ignore images. Most of the people on my ignore list are massive image posters.

My answer to you both: you could skip over whatever you don't like. And it would take roughly the same amount of effort for both. But that's not the point. The point is that either option would be a nice feature for people to use. They are equally valid and equally convenient.

I just gave you an exact fact per point reason why they're not equally the same in effort, but ok.
Okay, I'll rephrase. I disagree with your reasoning as to why they are different. But ultimately I didn't mean to make a big deal, I was just making an offhand comment. Consider me gone from this part of the discussion.

You're not the only one.

Put yourself in my place for a moment. After one of the most horrific weeks one can imagine, would you really want threads like "how would you kill someone?" popping up every time you check new threads or just go to the first page of General? There's no "skipping over", because there's no way to make that thread disappear without just not bothering with HF completely.

And there's the rub. Even the most seemingly harmless threads can have something that triggers offense for someone, and deciding which ones where is a sliding scale. Not to mention that a seemingly innocent thread can got batshitties-ville quick if people veer it off course. Yes, an ignore person function won't purify threads, but it will at least decrease noise to signal ratio.

Honestly, after today if people can't understand the value of the ignore people function... they never will.

Why, what happened today? I was gone all morning so I'll just head on over to General to see what you're talking about...

*reads General*

:Leyla:

Yeah. Even when an argument is over and dealt with, some asshole has to have the last word. I swear, you'd think people want threads to be locked.

Oh ignore function, how I burn lustily for thee
what peace, grace and calm thou brought me
In thine absence foul miscreants are all I see
Oh beloved ignore button, where art thou be?

Verily doth it languish
in the valley of Lost Upgrades;
Awaiting the day when freedom
Is granted to the next version.

"That's not poetry"
"Sure it is!"
"No it's not, it doesn't rhyme."
"It's free verse!"
"I don't care how much it costs, if it doesn't rhyme it's not a poem."
