On the dick-swinging/bitch factor. I can't bring myself to care enough (most of the time) to "whip it out".
http://theoatmeal.com/blog/jimmy_walesJimmy Wales' face at the top of that article makes it HILARIOUS.
If you give some people too many options, they just become confused.Maybe I should have just allowed people to pick multiple poll options.
1. If you aren't fanatically politically correct you will be beaten.Maybe I should have just allowed people to pick multiple poll options.
You guys KNOW FOR A FACT that we have posters of differing transgender roles here, so it's less being fanatically politically correct and more not being a raging douche nozzle.1. If you aren't fanatically politically correct you will be beaten.
2. No matter how you present something, you will inevitably offend someone.
Therefore, you will be beaten.
QED.
I hope you learned your lesson.
Nope! You guys KNOW FOR A FACT that we have posters of differing transgender roles here, so it's less being fanatically politically correct and more not being a raging douche nozzle.
Are you fucking kidding me?You guys KNOW FOR A FACT that we have posters of differing transgender roles here, so it's less being fanatically politically correct and more not being a raging douche nozzle.
While not being able to speak for Bowielee directly, I'm pretty sure his comment wasn't directed at you. Rather, it was directed at Stienman's condescending remark that allowing multiple choices would be pandering to the "fanatically politically correct"Are you fucking kidding me?
Look, the only person I knew on the forum as possibly being an alternate option was Ame, and she's always referred to herself as a she, which I've always supported and accepted. If not including half a dozen options, some of which I had never heard about, in a poll on a forum makes me a raging douche nozzle, then there's no way for me to avoid pissing someone off inadvertently.
Maybe realize that not everyone is out to make others feel small with their posts, eh?
Grue is always an option, whether it's on the list or not.Fwiw, I'm not suggesting we go into forum extremes or anything, just saying that any poll option without grue is woefully misrepresented.
It's hilarious. You guys KNOW FOR A FACT that we have posters of differing transgender roles here, so it's less being fanatically politically correct and more not being a raging douche nozzle.
A little projection, a lot of hyperbole. Fade is getting run through, though, and while I don't refer to myself as a raging douche nozzle, perhaps that's merely the way kids these days say, "hi".Keel-hauled? Isn't that a bit of an exaggeration?
All forums can have potential mine fields mate. It is all about how you word itAnd I thought the Politics sub forum was fraught with potential mine fields.
...what forum have you been visiting for the last few years? And I thought the Politics sub forum was fraught with potential mine fields.
You are completely correct about where I was coming from. While not being able to speak for Bowielee directly, I'm pretty sure his comment wasn't directed at you. Rather, it was directed at Stienman's condescending remark that allowing multiple choices would be pandering to the "fanatically politically correct"
Everyone has a different life experience. Shego may rightly claim that I couldn't understand, but conversely she cannot understand my perspective either. Through life experience we develop lenses through which we interpret objects, events, conversation, interaction, etc. these exist on such a fundamental level that even if we understand they are there, we still aren't aware of them and will never truly be able to figure out whether something we newly experience is actually the way it is, or if we're inferring something about it based on previous experience.I am never a fan of the phrase "You just don't understand,"
well, I think /you/ got "keel hauled" for sure but not Krisken.I altered my post.
Pray I don't alter it further.
