[Gaming] Elder Scrolls 5 - Dawnguard is HERE!

So, I'd like to put forth this. This game is full of racist factions. You don't often see non-Imperial..imperials. I mean, there are some, but they're mostly imperial. Most city guards are nords. Hell, the Stormcrows want all the other races out of Skyrim completely. Taldor are all altmers, etc.

You know the least racist group in Skyrim? Random bandit crews. Have you come across a table of them talking as friends? I have, I've seen an orc, an imperial, a breton and a khajit all having a conversation before I dashed in and murdered them all for the nord overlords who put out a contract for their death.

First off, I thought I'd post this gem from the wiki.

It is possible with level 100 enchanting to cast spells without using magicka. This can be done by wearing multiple pieces of armor/jewelry with multiple enchantments that reduce spell cost of a certain school. The percentages stack directly making it possible to have more than 100% cost reduction. That is, two enchantments of 50% spell cost reduction would stack up to 100% spell cost reduction, so when a spell is cast with such cost reduction no magicka is used at all.
This means that magnitude can increase A LOT more than I thought it could. You just need to put a shitload of Perks into enchanting. So if you mages want to be viable in the late game... get enchanting!

As for your comment Frankie... considering the events of the previous games and the stuff in between Oblivion and Skyrim, it's easy to see why this happened.

- Morrowind is currently the property of the Khajit and Argonians. After the Red Mountain errupted, they swept in and conquered the country, basically in response to the hundreds of years of on-going slave trade in the region. Dunmer are currently pissed at the Argonians and Khajit, who are share the sentiment. Most of the Dark Elves have left the country as refugees.

- The Thaldor are explicitly Elve supremacists... and by Elve, they only mean High Elves. They conquered their region in a cue, then proceeded to steamroll the neighboring homelands of the Bosmer, Orcs, and Khajit. They are at peace with the Empire right now, but basically only because they don't want to commit genocide at the moment. This means everyone hates High Elves (more than they did before) and the High Elves hate everyone else.

- Blackmarsh left the Empire, mainly in response to their utter unwillingness to stop the Slave Trade in Morrowind. Thus the Imperials, Bretons, and Redguards aren't exactly happy with Argonians at the moment, who they view as fair weather friends.

- Nords are mainly pissed with the Empire, which hasn't done shit to help them since Uriel Septim died and the recent outlawing of Talos worship, which the High Elves don't like because Talos was originally a Nord. They don't want to revere a mere man because it doesn't fit in with their Altmer supremacy visions. Since the Empire is too weak to fight of the Dominion, they gave in to the demand. This and the long, brutal war with the Dominion has basically brought Skyrim to it's breaking point.

So yeah... it's not surprising that everything has gone to hell.

Oh yeah, I get all that. I just think it's funny that the only places you find racial harmony is in a bandit's den.

Well I kind of "cheated" yesterday. I admit I didn't really understand where I wanted to go with my character in the first 10 levels so I spread a few points out in some perks, that by a certain point, I was not even using. While I attempted to just live with it, it kept eating away at me that those one-handed perks were sitting there when I only used my two-handers.

So I downloaded a set of scripts someone made that allowed me to quickly use the console and delete all my perks. I counted up the total amount of "points" I would have at my level and then manually used the scripts to add the perks I really did want.

In a way I feel bad about it, even though I felt it was a system that should have been in the game originally. I just don't have the time to plan out and start over entirely and it was not going to get any better with those unused points taunting me.

Even so, I am planning a second character to play at some point next year once I get the bug again. This one would be designed a bit more clearly using what I know about the game now, and will actually follow a designed "story" that will take them all over Skyrim and get him involved with all the various groups. Just trying to figure out the race right now.

So I rented Skyrim for PS3 just to try it out, then realized that I can't handle the way consoles try to pretend you have a mouse by using the right analog. So while I liked the game, and will get it for PC at some point, there's no way I'm going to make any headway trying to play it on a console.

Alright, I got done enchanting... Here's the best I can do with what -I- know about and with me missing some enchant perks.

+211% Magicka Regen (225% with full perks)
-71% Destruction School spell costs (80% with full perks)
+86 Magicka (100 Magicka with full perks)
+51 Carry Weight Limit (60 with full perks)
+26% Resist to Element of your Choice (30% with full perks)

Mind you, that's with an Expert's Robe of Destruction, so if you can find better robes then subtract -20% Destruction and +125% Magicka regen from the equation and add in whatever is better.

With those stats, would Magic be more viable?
I would argue that....possibly the Archmage robe is better than the expert robe of destruction.

Also I've fallen back in love (a bit) with destruction casting since I got my lightning cloak spell. That thing is pretty devastating.

My next character is going to be a total paladin guy. All heavy plate, weapon, block. NO magic except maybe Resto.

Nice. I would totally take Resto so you can easily heal yourself and your follower. Makes it feel more Paladin'ish. You planning to go sword and shield? If so, I recommend...

Hunting down the shrine of Meridia and gaining the questline leading to Dawnbreaker. It's pretty much the most paladin style one-hander in the game, with an insane amount of charges. You will literally be making undead explode.

That is my Character. No sneak or Archery. Just 1H,Board,Heavy armor and a little Resto.Making armor on the side which is a must.
It is a ton of fun if you are fighting melee baddys, but against mages it is just a pain in the ass (untill you get the 50% resistance perk for shield.)

Heh, stacking stuff on people while they sleep.

So, at the risk of sounding like "that guy," did you guys figure out you can command Lydia (or whoever your current companion is) into your bed with the "hold e" command mode? Once again, who needs marriage?

I'm actually playing it on the PC with the xbox controller. I prefer it over the mouse and keyboard. Seeing as the PC version is identical control wise to the console version, it's pretty much intended to be played with a controller.

Dude, I've used God Mode several times already on shit that was pissing me off. Who cares if you used a cheat to wipe your perks.

I'm trying so hard not to "cheat" with enchanting. I swear Ill finish as a non-magical warrior. I SWEAR.
I'd say your best chance would be to look Daedric artifacts if you don't want to enchant. I think ALL of the quests start in towns except one. Plenty of good weapons and a few pieces of choice armor. In particular, I recommend the sword Dawnstar, the dagger Mehrune's Razor, and the shield Spellbreaker.

I don't have to cheat because I picked the perks I wanted.

...I'm also only level 21. Level 21 was gained by blowing through a ton of materials to beef my Smithing.

To level my block skill i just look for a mine rile up a few bandits and let them wail on me in a narrow corridor,so they have to attack from the front.
bring lots of stamina pots.

What I thought was an ocean border on Skyrim's northeastern side was actually an entire other section of the world, with ice floes, caves, trolls, walruses, strange and distant castles, wrecked ships... I haven't even been to Skyrim's western half and I've barely unveiled much of the east, it seems.

There's too much. This game is too goddamn big.

Gaaahhh!!!! I killed a dragon that killed me 4 times in a row... during the critical kill animation I tried to get a screenshot of me riding the dragon's head and POOF! the desktop...

I shut the game off at midnight. This is what I see.

Let's do some math, shall we? Skyrim has been out 9 days. That's 216 hours. I've played 99 hours, leaving 117. 40 hour work week drops that down to 77 hours. 9 days worth of sleep at about 7 hours a night (63 hours) and we now have 15 hours.

I'm surprised my kids recognize me.
