Well, it's a little past the 1/4 mark of the season and for the most part the season is unfolding as I expected.

Originally I had:
Division winners
PIT VAN
BOS CHI
WAS SJS
Division contenders
BUF ANA
PHI LAK
TBL DET
Squeeking into the playoffs
NYR MIN
TOR DAL
Just falling short
CAR EDM
MTL COL
NJD STL
Out of contention
FLA PHO
WIN CAL
OTT NAS
NYI CBJ

So wtf Florida and Anaheim?

I can't say it hasn't been coming. We have the talent to be a good team, it just hasn't been getting done.

I'm a little surprised that they didn't replace Mo with Jeff Daniels (of the Charlotte Checkers, Hurricanes AHL affiliate), but we've got a good farm team going so they probably didn't want to screw that up yet.

Last time we changed out our coach (also around this time) we wound up going to the Eastern Conference Finals, so who knows? Change starts now.

Meanwhile, Kirk Mueller is named the new head coach of Carolina today.
And Bruce Boudreau is fired as the Caps head coach.
Meanwhile, TSN.ca reports that Sidney Crosby had Captain Crunch for breakfast!

Is this directed at me? I'm seriously confused by this comment.
Yes.
As stated before - could you TML fans PLEASE remember there ARE 29 other teams in the NHL?
And all of them have the same number (if not MORE) SC wins that the Leafs in the last 44 years?

*eye roll*
Sorry, I didn't realize only fans of other teams were allowed to discuss their team in this thread. My bad.
This is why your comment confused me.
From the same PAGE of this thread, by the way, I touched on Sidney Crosby's return
He'll have Ovie beat in a few games.
Briefly touched on Boston's return to the top of the rankings
...Meanwhile, holy crap Boston's really climbed back up.

and defended Covar's assesment of how the league screwed American teams for Canadian Thanksgiving.
I don't get how an example of two American teams's getting a bad schedule because of a Canadian holiday is unrelated to a Canadian team getting a bad schedule due to an American one. Covar's example was indeed relevant as I saw it. But I don't get why the schedules would have been adjusted in that way, anyway. If anything, there should have been no games on Canadian Thanksgiving, just as the entire league shut down for the American Thanksgiving yesterday. 'Specially since like 60% the league are Canadians anyway.
Furthermore, I think you have a very strange idea of what Leafs fans are like. ("And all of them have the same number (if not MORE) SC wins that the Leafs in the last 44 years?") The fans in Toronto are ALL TOO AWARE that the Leafs haven't won since 67. That's why we get so excited when they do well (And why the fans at the ACC are so quick to turn on them when they underperform). Forgive us for getting excited that our team is doing well for once.

Sorry, I just get a little touchy about it. And it just seemed like it was always "Leafs did this, Leafs did that" when I opened this thread.

...Doesn't help my boys in the 'Ville haven't been doing so hot as of late.

The always ridiculous circus trip is over, so hopefully the Hawks will start remembering how to kill penalties again with some home games.

We could talk about Nashville I suppose, so Nashville, Nashville, what's there to talk about with Nashville.

There's your interesting tax loop holes to talk about, Shea Weber! likes me some Shea Weber! and Mr. Carrie Underwood. How's that Kostitsyn working out for you? Pekka Rinne's already been talked to death.

Or we can all talk about Bobby Ryan joining the Toronto Maple Leafs!

Hurricanes play their first game under Muller tonight, against the 1st place in the Southeast Florida Panthers. In other news the Canes claimed Andreas Nodl off of waivers from the Flyers, and reassigned Brett Sutter (Older cousin of alternate captain Brandon Sutter). So lots of changes in tonight's game.

Its cool. I get it as a kind of general annoyance; I mean in the GTA its like ALL LEAFS NEWS, ALL THE TIME.
But yeah, everyone has their team, everyone wants to talk about their team.

So Pronger's gone for a month for surgery. Is "Pronger's injured" just not even news anymore? Nobody's posted it here yet.

Are there any Flyers fans here? I don't think he's important enough league-wide for that to really have an impact on anyone else - especially now that Crosby's back!

Hmm... actually I can't think of any.
Cool, we can all agree to hate on Philly.

Exactly.
Also, glad I watched the Leafs game at a bar tonight. It means I got to drink during yet another loss to the Bruins. To be fair, Toronto played a better game tonight than the last two games. It was more back and forth, though Boston dominated in the third, goaltending played a bigger role in this game than the last two, and I don't think there's shame in being beaten by Tim Thomas.
Wish Ron Wilson hadn't pulled Gustavsson with 2:00min to go AGAIN. I am not dumb enough to think we could have won, or even optimistic enough to think we could have scored one, but atleast we could have kept it at 5-3. 6-3 is just embarassing.

I'm afraid to look at the standings now. I know Toronto was perched very precariously.

Okay, Boudreau gets fired on Monday, then finds himself hired on Thursday?

The man is just BORN lucky. And to think I was there for one of his best moments as a head coach.

Big NHL news day. Ducks fire Carlyle and immediately pick up Boudreau. Wonder how this will play out.
Meanwhile everyone's gearing up for Washington and Pittsburg to play eachother for the first time since Crosby's return, and a new coach for the Capitals, and now the game's into the third and not even an assist from either Crosby or Ovechkin.

Every story needs a villain. Ovechkin fills that role really well every time Canada plays Russia in the IIHF World Championship or in the Olympics.
But yes. So very yes.
A very minor side rant related to Ovechkin:
I don't know if you guys are familiar with Mr. Big chocolate bars. I'm pretty sure they're Canadian, but I think they're still sold in parts of the states.
Anyway, they have these commercials running feeaturing Ovechkin as their new spokesman. What a terrible marketing choice for a Canadian chocolate bar. There aren't many less popular players among Canadians that they could have picked.

Is that a joke? Ovechkin is probably the second-most popular player in the league, behind Crosby. There's a reason their rivalry is played up so much.

Sorry. I realize he's actually very popular, but I meant specifically among Canadians. That's why I specified that its a Canadian chocolate bar.
I've edited the post to clarify. He does have his fans here, mostly little kids who like him just for his theatrics, but otherwise, not really.
The rivalry here was played up before either were even playing in the NHL, because of the IIHF World Juniors and Ovechkin being such a dominant force there. So he's been the villain in hockey media for years.

Eh, they have entirely different playstyles. I'd say the best Pens-Caps "rivalry" would be Malkin and Ovechkin, since at least there you're comparing apples to apples.

Grape Ape is popular among the younger fans and the hockey Homers (i.e. almost all Caps fans) because he's a showboat. He puts on a good, fast hockey show. Crosby is more subtle - assist here, pass there, and the occasional amazing goal. Crosby is very good at reading the play and contributing to make a goal. He doesn't have to score. Ovechkin is good at plowing through at insane speed, and laser shooting the puck to score.

Ovechkin is a very good player, but Crosby wins fundamentals, puck handling, and team play hands down. I gotta admit Ovechkin is pretty hilarious off the ice while Crosby is more clean cut and maintains a sort of modesty and quietness about him. Again this is why the younger people love Ovechkin (the same people that love Jackass characters), and think Crosby's a pansy.

This is hilarious btw...

I didn't realize that got approved today.
I'm suprised at how cleanly they managed to do it. Works for me.

Wish I had bet my friend re: the Boston v Pittsburgh game tonight. Coulda made some money.

Little bit disappointed that Ott-Pitts will be in different conferences. There was a bit of a rivalry there, and it could have turned into a lot of fun once the Sens got good again.

Oh well, there's always the Leafs!

Honestly, I don't think that's fair. It was a dirty play but definitley not as bad as Lucic. I think this is just an apology from shanahan for dropping the ball with the lucic thing.
