That is just absurd. how about a general "shower before entering the pool" sign just like any other pool. That place is begging to be vandalized....

If they wanted to ban something like a specific hair product I'd have no issue with it. If the sign read, "No X brand hair products allowed in the pool!" it would be fine.

But it doesn't seem to me like they wanted to ban hair products...

Just like all the activists coming up in arms for BlackPeopleMeet.Com right? Oh wait.... it's only when White people are discriminating others, not the other way around. Sorry, I forgot.

That's a private company and can legally discriminate if they want. (Of course, people can protest it or boycott, etc.) This was a public pool.

edit: Not a public pool. The sign said public but it's an apartment complex. But I'll bet there's something in the lease agreement about using the pool.

Yeah, it's weird how it's only an issue when the people with power are doing the discriminating... i mean no one said anything to those jews that didn't want aryans marrying their kids circa the 1930's...

Also, would you really complain about a dating site that's irish only?

Actually the sign appears to be from 1931... and they didn't have hair gel back then i guess.

Not really, they're allowed to sign up. If anything, GLAAD would probably be the only ones to have a problem with eHarmony.

Do you actually care about the website or are you just trying to use it as a spoiler?

Because there's a significant difference. With the website you could argue that no non-blacks would even want to use the site as it is entirely populated by people who are self-selecting themselves to only be searching for black mates. Meaning that the service is completely valueless for a white person. This is the same as a lesbians only website not allowing men on. The men get no value from the site and detract value from it simultaneously.

Whereas with the pool, it isn't white's only because the pool will only operate in a pleasing manner to white people, it's that way because one person thinks that black people will lower the value of the pool for all users. Which is false, for one, and since the black person could still get value from the pool (as opposed to the white person and the website), it actually has a negative affect on people based on the color of their skin.

Basically there are two affects at issue here.

1) Is the discrimated against being there detracting value? For both the website and the pool some may argue yes, but it's questionable in both places.

2) Is the discrimated against loosing value by not having access? This is only true for the pool.

So you're saying there'd be ZERO outcry from non-white racial activists if suddenly advertisements for "WhitePeopleMeet.Com" started showing up on TV?

Somehow I think you're finding an opposition position to stand on when there isn't one.

Hey, way to spoil my trump card...

In a country where whites are both a minority and not in a position of power?

But really, i think the site says more about how black people are viewed by society at large as an ethnicity, while white people are divided amongst more ethnicities, which is why i brought up the irish thing...

I think that a WhitePeopleMeet.com would be perfectly fine to be honest, because anyone screwed up enough to want to find a dating partner on there is not someone I would ever want to date. I would assume anyone using it was some member of the arian nation.

Really though I don't think there is any demand for such a thing though, as white people are a majority. A dating sight that caters to a niche audience makes sense to a degree, as they don't want to spend 70% of their time on a regular site searching through people they have no interest in.

If someone were to make such a site it would get lambasted in the media, but it would fail because there is no demand for it. Now if they did it in the Phillipines, or Korea, or some place where whites were a minority, I don't think there would be any outcry.

But regardless, noboday said racism/PC stuff is fair. White people have to tread more carefully. This pool situation, on the other hand, isn't even a case of people being overly PC. This is someone clearly violating civil rights while making a direct reference to the days of segregation.

Might as well include cotton farming duties in the rental agreements for black tenants, and title the property "40 acres and a mule" (all checks made payable to "Massah Realty llc")

It's exactly the same, just worded differently. Whether "you'd choose to look for a partner there or not".

Also, where has the Lesbian only website commercials on National Television been playing because I've missed everyone.... oh wait, that point is invalid too because there isn't one.

You're right that the black dating site is discriminatory. But I think that there is a difference between discriminatory and civil rights violations/racism. You're making me work hard to figure out exactly what it is though....

You should put up a thread about it in the politics/religion section. Would get some interesting conversation going.

Yeah, but there's kind of a different reason for that one...

It's because they're sneaky about it. Maybe a little less sneaky about it than eHarmony (You don't find out about the Religion and No-Gay restrictions until after you try signing up).

I dunno, I'm brunette... then again I am currently single. Now I can just blame it on my hair color...

Further, I tend to navigate more toward Blondes and Redheads so double damn you on being right...

I'm a brunette, but then I gravitated toward a blonde... but she gravitated toward me, so hah!

I can't speak for your country, but in the U.S. generally no one gives a shit about that anymore.
It is still there to some extent. My brother had a guy that kept telling him Irish jokes. So I armed my brother with a few zingers for the majority of European nationalities. The one he ended up using on him...

So, do you know why Scotsmen wear kilts?

Because sheep can hear a zipper at 50 yards.

He quit telling my brother the Irish jokes.

There are still jokes and in a city you're going to notice neighborhoods still, but you're not going to see "Irish Need Not Apply" signs or a division between western or eastern Europe on any forms. It's all "white" now.

Aside: Newfoundlanders are the brunt of many Canadian jokes. Even newspapers refer to us as Newfies..which a lot of Newfoundlanders find to be derogatory.

I just don't care.

Man, living in Alberta, in rural oilfield Alberta at that, for as long as I did, I met a lot of Newfoundlanders and every one of them to a T would refer to themselves as Newfs or Newfies.

Almost all of them barely had any sort of accent unless you got a pint in them or there was more than one of them around, then they stop speaking English and start speaking Newfish which is nearly incomprehensible.

It's OUR word. Many don't care if another Newfie says it (see?).

However, I have seen many, many, MANY Facebook post, news articles and that kinda silliness decrying its use, even amongst Newfoundlanders. Foolish really. It's just a word...but I keep getting scowled at for using it.

They're just a bunch of porchmonkeys.
