[Gaming] Elder Scrolls 5 - Dawnguard is HERE!

What that picture doesn't show you is the dragon landing and the guy swiping it with his sword twice and it dies.

I gotta say, while the game was fun my first real time through (my heavy weapon and armor orc), I am enjoying the shit out of it now that I'm going maximum sneaky - though I have run into several patches where my little level 15 thief has trouble killing groups of 3 or more mid-level bandits (ie bandit highwaymen or bandit thugs) or 6 or more skeevers and venomfang skeevers along with one bat-shit insane mage. Still, it's much more gratifying to take down a group like that when I have to do some pre-attack planning instead of "lol, I hitted them with my hammer and they falled down." Now I just have to get prepped to get into the Dark Brotherhood once I finish off the thieves guild quest line.

Huh. I'd never thought of that. If it works, that's an awesome bit of AI programming. Mainly I just look for someplace that gives me cover, make sure the enchants and poisons on my daggers are charged up and ready to go, and snipe at them from range with my bow, killing off any that get up close and personal with the daggers. I've been steadily building up my magicka though, because I'd love to be able to drop a rune between a group and my position and then start sniping and let the rune finish them off or slow them down.

My biggest issue with sneak is the fact, that until you get 100 sneak, it's pretty much impossible to kill someone at close range using it without alerting everyone else around. It makes using daggers over bows to be extremely more difficult when trying to be stealthy.

My hope is once the creation set comes out, someone will use it to develop more stealth mechanics. I would love more "silent" takedowns, and for NPC sight to be based more on shadows, so that if I take down a guy silently and pull him into a shadowy spot, other NPCs won't instantly notice him when I turn around.

Also, and this is a bit more silly, but I would love a way to take down people WITHOUT killing them. Like my thief, while willing to get dirty when required, I play as someone that follows all the mottos of the Thieve's Guild, and won't kill anyone while stealing. It would be nice to be able to sneak into a house, get behind someone, and knock them out rather then slice their neck, wait for them to sleep, or put a pot over their head.

Paralytic poisons (that last more than 3 seconds) would be awesome for that, especially once you get to the pickpocket level that allows you to poison someone by slipping poisons into their pockets. But yes, I'd like to see more non-killing take down techniques on the whole. Especially if I don't want to kill a guard, but I really want to get into the house/business that he's standing right across from.

Why, why does it have to still be taken in a bathroom mirror? Is this some achievement I don't know about?
Unfortunately it's because the person is probably single, meaning they need to hold the camera themselves (I dunno why they don't get a friend to do it), and thus need a mirror, and also need a BIG mirror to get a whole-body shot, and for most people the biggest mirror they have is in their bathroom, hence the result.

Yes, seeing her, I really don't think she is single. At the very least I imagine multiple friendzoners all trying to fill the spot.

She probably was just was not thinking of calling anyone over to take the picture. Whenever I take photos I do it myself rather then ask someone, just because I never like bothering people. Though, I don't use mirrors. The shot in my avatar is actually me holding my hand out while keeping my shoulders straight.

Back to the main image, if I was not married, I would totally infiltrate her bandit camp.

But then what would I use Fus Ro Dah for? Though, in my case it would have to just be Fus, because I'm level 23 or 24 and still haven't been to see the Greybeards to get Ro or the quest for Dah.

You can just sprint to push them out of the way.
Pushing requires me to stop my momentum. We can't have that.

Iona knows her place when I turn around and that's 10 feet above the ground with her legs over her head into the air. Then she'll slowly be getting up coughing within the dust cloud her banged up body kicked up as she slammed against the wall on the other side of the room wondering WTF happened.

See, and the little woman thinks I'm being mean when I tell her, that's what Fus Ro Dah is FOR.

Solid NPCs are a double edged sword. On the one hand, it's nice to have some NPC solidity and not be able to just run through an enemy and start attacking them from behind, like in WoW; on the other hand, I can't count how many times I've almost accidentally killed a companion when they stepped between my target and I while after I loosed an arrow. Had it happen to me last night with some random Imperial Soldier while I was in the wilds attacking a dragon. He went to help while the dragon was grounded and I shot him in the back of the head, then he and his men turned on me and I had to run because I couldn't kill a dragon and 5 soldiers at the same time. Luckily, I was able to get on my horse and scoot out of there before I got ganked; but I had to ride most of the way to the next hold before I could fast travel because I passed three wolves, two bears, a mammoth, a giant, a random orc, some hired thugs, another dragon, and a spider ambush before I managed to get to a point where there weren't "enemies nearby."

DAOC used to have enemy-only collision. You could pass through any friendly NPC or player, but not any hostile NPC or player. Definitely made for interesting large scale PVP fights at choke points.

Warhammer Online went a slightly different way where anyone considered "not in combat" would not collide with anything, but someone considered "in combat" would collide with anything else considered "in combat." In Combat was defined as having attacked or been attacked within the last 30 seconds, or if a player of an enemy faction was within 100 yards or so. Heh.. kind of called it "collision radar" because we could tell if an enemy was hiding in the area because we couldn't walk through each other.

Yeah, I really liked the mass PvP from Warhammer Online, because it actually made tanks a viable PvP class outside of arena battles. I really wish that game hadn't gone to shit - there were a lot of fun things about it and I miss my Warrior Priest.

Tell me about it. EA used to be the evil empire of gaming... then all of a sudden they started getting cool for a while.. now we've come back full circle.
