[Gaming] Elder Scrolls 5 - Dawnguard is HERE!

Yeah, for a VERY short while EA was trying to shed it's evil empire image and put out a bunch of new and original titles, like Mirror's Edge. The gaming populace as a whole decided to reward them by not buying anything they put out at this time so back to evil empiring EA crawled.

DAOC used to have enemy-only collision. You could pass through any friendly NPC or player, but not any hostile NPC or player. Definitely made for interesting large scale PVP fights at choke points.

Warhammer Online went a slightly different way where anyone considered "not in combat" would not collide with anything, but someone considered "in combat" would collide with anything else considered "in combat." In Combat was defined as having attacked or been attacked within the last 30 seconds, or if a player of an enemy faction was within 100 yards or so. Heh.. kind of called it "collision radar" because we could tell if an enemy was hiding in the area because we couldn't walk through each other.
Just as a point of correction DaoC did not have enemy collision as I ran through casters to mess wit their cast sequence plenty of times as a Warden. DaoC had Point blank Aoe casters, Animists(turret farm caster) that teneded to make choke points intense.

No, you're right... what the hell game am I thinking of that had enemy-only collision...?

I was on a mission with Farkas, I guess it was him... we came across a room where you run through a caged bridge, then turn a few corners then fight the people that were in the room below you. I can hear them coming, I open a door to wait for them to get to me. The Farkas runs down the hallway awakening 5 Dragur, and attacking the 5 Silver Hands... He got me killed the first time he did that.

The second time he did not wake the Dragur, so I was able to race behind him and kill the Dragur as they were standing, then duck behind cover and wait for the 5 Silver Hands to come at me piecemeal.

There needs to be an invisible elastic band keeping your "follower" with in 20-30 feet of you.

LMAO at Lydia marriage mod.

"Now you can marry Lydia like you always wanted!"

I have to say though, that creation kit looks damn robust, just the dialogue trees made my eye widen with excitement.

Lydia marriage mod? It's a one line console command! I guess that's the joke huh...
The joke was the fact you couldn't even marry her at all without doing some console tweaks, considering she is the first female character you will likely have following you to the ends of Skyrim and back again. Making it one of the mods in the list was a tongue and cheek nod to the mistake.

Whoa, that Steam Workshop thing is pretty incredible if it works well. They trying to put Nexus out of business or what?

The Randy Savage Dragon mod is also one of the thumbnails in that video.

So anyone else here planning to try making some mods once the kit releases? I have a few ideas for stuff I would like to try, basically adding character followers.

I'm not sure. Probably before Warhammer Online though, because I remember discussing Warhammer's collision and comparing it to enemy only...
You guys just reminded me about the nightmare that collisions were in Everquest. All you needed was for one PC Ogre to stand in the door of the bank and the economy of the game came to a screeching halt.

Hated that when they decided to spend the day blocking boats too, or dungeon entrances. This was one of the reasons WoW decided just to remove collision detection entirely.

Even worse was when the trolls colluded.. and one guy would block the exit to Guk or whatever, and his accomplice would train a million mobs through everybody else in the dungeon then run to the entrance, and gate out. The horde would then slaughter everybody else in the dungeon, and people without gate (non-casters, mostly) would get slaughtered cause they couldn't squeeze past the fatass in the exit.

Oh wow that's priceless.

Also curse you for mentioning warhammer online. I really miss that game. It was so close to being awesome. Why did they screw it up?

Good times..... good times.

Good times..... good times.
I remember a long time ago I was playing my Human Monk, was camping a spawn in Caste Mistmoore with probably like 30 other players or so. Someone started a massive train at the end of the zone and all I could see was dozens of mobs come running from around the corner and start slaughtering everyone. I feigned death and watched as some people blocked the exit, by the end of it everyone was dead but me and the douches that blocked the zone line. I couldn't stop laughing, though my group I was with was not laughing.

Ah yes, good ol' Feign Death... the monk's way of being a willing spectator to all EQ's asshattery.

Because EA found being the good guy doesn't pay the bills, and Bioware needed practice administrating an MMO before SW:TOR came out.

I know it took me a long time (thanks a lot, cancer treatments!), but I finally got around to properly playing Skyrim this morning...

...aaaaand then I noticed it was four in the afternoon ;) Still only lvl3 with my Nordh Rangorn the Nord with no pants :p I only stopped because I couldn't get past that gods-damned Wounded Frostbite Spider in the... whatchamacallit? The ruins above Riverwood? Fucker's killed me like six times in a row. I guess I'll have to level some first.

Any advice for a complete console newbie? Like whether to go two-handed or shield/one-handed? And where the bloody hell can I find me some ore and leather? XD
