[Webcomic] The Order of the Stick thread

Do please remember that we're in the hideout for a master of illusions, folks.

It's the desert and windy. They're mummified corpses, not rotting.
It's true, that is a technicality. My personal theory right now has to do with the limits of racial ability. Since everyone in the Draketooth clan is human, they tried to make it smell like rotting corpses with illusion, but they just couldn't quite get the smell right enough to fool halflings, since their human senses aren't up to par.

Unfortunately, this is also the last of the (almost) daily strips for the KS drive, so who knows how long it'll be until there's a resolution. I'd imagine Burlew is going to need some recuperation time.

My personal theory:

The corpses are real, but they're not the corpses of the people they're looking for. Draketooth is smart enough to know that people are going to be looking for illusions, so this master trickster set up a deception that isn't reliant on illusion magic.

The order will try to dispel an illusion, but it won't work, so they'll assume that everyone they were looking for is dead -- just like Draketooth would want them to.

In all honesty, the corpses are probably the people who built the pyramid/temple thingy and this is the result of the "after party" celebrating it's completion. Draketooth just spiked the food/punch to ensure none of them would rat out where the temple was.

Apparently there is a theory that Girard somehow had a dragon as an ancestor and this is the result of V's Familicide. Not sure what to think about that.

It wouldn't be out of the question. Dragons take humaniod lovers all the time, thanks to their polymorphing ability/spell ability. Hell, in 3.0/3.5, it's all but stated that a lot of sorcerers (especially kobald ones) could trace their ancestry to a dragon. It's one of the reasons sorcerers can become Dragon Disciples.

Who knew that indiscriminately killing the entire lineage of an ancient black dragon could have far-reaching consequences?

#843: Lack of Foresight

Poor V is crushed...

...also a scary thought: If Penelope and Tarquin had a child, the Familicide spell would have killed Elan.

Man, V is NOT having a good day.

...then again, considering not long ago he forced a Kobold into reenacting Human Centipede with a cat, I'm not feeling TOO sorry for him.
