[Movies] Talk about the last movie you saw 2: Electric Threadaloo

I got the same thing. Some people wonder if I'm trying to be rediculous or if I'm mentally insane. Can't a man wear two colored shoes anymore?!

Anyone else seen Sgt. Kabukiman NYPD? Back from the golden age of crappy Troma movies.

No seriously, if you weren't around during Charlie's early days of massive White Knighting of every major cause that noone was actually attacking, his blatant attacks on anyone who was upset to the point of anger against murderers/child molestors, or his days of "Holier than Thou" style of movie reviewing: Then you won't understand why there's an underlying dislike against him and everything he posts. At one point he basically became a cartoon caracture of a poster who puposelly would choose an opposing argument to get people to blow up at him while he took the "Hipster" style attitude of "I don't care, you're dumb cause you like stuff"

He still does it from time to time, though mixed with "real" posts here and there. The problem alot have is that his writing style is so similar between the two, most can't tell when he's openly trolling or openly has a realistic opinion.
I've been here since the Image forum. And yeah, I can see the hostility when it comes to certain things, but seriously everyone gets so upset over innocent little sentiments like not liking Dark Knight as much as everyone else. It just seems excessive to me.

Heh, this is probly my brothers most superficial reason for hating this movie. Was Rashida one of the characters in the same-sex relationship? He's got a mad crush on her.
Yeah, she and Zooey Deschanel (who is attractive and all, but I don't really get the hipster=nerd crossover culture hard-on for her, personally)
Image site...this site was SPONSORED by Image? Crazy.
Not really, no. But our origins are there. The history of Halforums is long and complex, stretching back long before even those hallowed grounds were our home.
I joined during that era, so much is lost to me. But one of our village elders could tell you the whole tale, I'm sure.

Yeah I think he has a crush on her too. Meh, boys will be boys.

Edit: It also may have to do with his Breaking Bad fanboyism. Guy LOVES that show.

For the record, I've never taken an opinion on anything just to start shit. I have posted more aggressively I guess on things that I'm in the vast minority here on just to I dunno, have more fun

I think most will agree that Charlie largely put it upon himself in the fact that he has never been clear on when he's just doing it for the lulz and when he's being super cereal.

I honestly never know if what he's saying is trolling or actual opinion.

However, that just makes my largely ignore his posts, not actively hate on him. I hate the "STFU Charlie" meme

Yeah, yeah, I know it will be immediately followed by STFU bowielee.

Holy Weekend of Super Hero Movies Batman

Watched:
Green Hornet - decent comedy
Green Lantern - decent popcorn flick
Die Hard 1,2,3 - totally Shego
Kick Ass - surprised me how well it held up
Scott Pilgrim - still sucks, perhaps worse than original viewing

lol @ Kick Ass "holding up" and Scott Pilgrim sucking

I went on a movie binge this weekend.

Jeff Who Lives At Home - nice indie / family type drama movie. Gave the most about which to think. Might have been better as a short film? But was still good and all.

Casa De Mi Padre - I found this amusing the entire length, though not too many laugh out loud moments. I'm glad I saw it, though. Didn't hold a candle to Black Dynamite.

Journey 2: The Mysterious Island - uhhhhh I saw this since I had 90 minutes until the next showing of 21 Jump Street. It wasn't the worst thing I've ever seen. The Rock and Michael Caine and Luis Guzman all did their thing and didn't annoy me. Moving on.

21 Jump Street - fucking hilarious. I wanted more of this movie, and hopefully will get it via a sequel or blu-ray release (UNRATED CUT!"?!?!)

You know what's a good watch if your up for an over the top monster movie? Godzilla Final Wars. The plot was too long, and filled to the brink with cheesy action scenes. But it also had this scene.

All is forgiven Toho. All is forgiven.

I don't really know. All I know is that Don Fry is the manliest man that ever manned.

Jet also loves this movie...though he calls it the 'Big Dinosaur' movie.

Final Wars and Godzilla 2000 are the last on my to watch list for the millennium series, I just got to get around to them. Giant Monsters All Out Attack is probably my least favorite of those so far, with the Mechagodzilla duology being wonderfully cheesy.

Street Fighter - watched again a few weeks ago at a drunken movie night. An amazingly fun movie to watch with a bunch of friends all at varying levels of sobriety.

I've watched a few new movies in the last few days.
Goon- Surprised by how much I enjoyed this. It isn't as strong as Slap Shot on the social commentary- it does touch on the bloodlust of of the crowds, but makes less of an effort to point it out than Slap Shot does, and definitely celebrates the enforcer's role in hockey more than criticize it. But those points are briefly made, and homophobia in the locker room and concussions on the ice are both touched upon. But what it lacks for in brains, it makes up for in being extremely funny. I didn't think I'd like it half as much as I did.
Rise of the Planet of the Apes- Never seen any Planet of the Apes movies excpet for that horrid Tim Burton one. This was pretty well done, although the CG character main ape is too close to the uncanny valley for my liking.
Rio- Meh.
Winnie the Pooh - Wasn't a big Winnie the Pooh kid growing up, but even so this made me feel like a little kid again. And BEAUTIFUL animation, too. I think I need to find this on DVD.
Kung Fu Panda 2- Maybe my expectations were too high from all the hype people gave this one, but I didn't think it was any better than the first one. That isn't to say it was BAD, but it wasn't the huge leap forward in Dreamworks' storytelling that everyone said it was. It was actually a step back after How to Train Your Dragon.

So for Kick Ass they changed the story to make it less depressing than the comic for whatever reason, and it's still mediocre in its best parts after said changes (granted, the comic's not especially great either). Oh and Nic Cage over-acts like crazy, which is of course surprising to nobody in particular.

Scott Pilgrim looks better, it's more entertaining by a long-shot, and to me is just a better experience than Kick Ass. Kick Ass, to me, is about as bland and boring as Wanted, which is another awful adaptation.

Anyway I haven't been to the theater in a very long time, but the last movie I watched was Beetlejuice for like the millionth time. I still love it.

Edit: So apparently Kick-Ass was optioned before the comic was even published and the comic and movie were written at the same time off of just a synopsis pitch. Interesting.

People would be amazed if they pulled themselves away from the source material and treated them like Stand-Alone films, at how good alot of these movies are. That's why the Hell-Boy movies/comics work so well. Mike M. purposely doesn't keep an overarching story between mediums.

The Hellboy movies and comics also work well because they're not terrible.

Also there are a ton of story arcs in the Hellboy universe, and the movies are based (albeit loosely for the most part) on some of them. Hellboy 1 is based off of (I think) Seed of Destruction, for example. Liberties were taken, and I do understand you have to because no comic or book will translate 100% to screen, but the total experience comes off as a good one. Though you are right, the two mediums aren't connected by an over-arcing story, but then most comic/movie adaptations aren't. Personally, I didn't feel that Wanted or Kick-Ass were a great experience in movie or comic form (I had seen the movies of each before going out and checking out the comics).

Huh. So I can admit to liking the movie? I'll have to see it then. The comic could have DEFS been better, I felt the ending was needlessly realistic.

I enjoyed Kickass myself, not enough to buy it, but enough that I didn't feel ripped off seeing it for $4.25 on matinee night at the cheap theatre.
My only real problem with it is the homophobic way they handled that first attack and how it played into the romantic relationship in a way that just makes no sense.

Scott Pilgrim, on the other hand, is one of very few movies I paid to see in theatres more than once, one of only two movies I bothered to purchase on BluRay, the only movie I have ever showed up to a DVD store before opening to purchase, and was easily one of the best movies of that year (and far better than the comic). The opening credits alone were worth the price of admission. Absolutely GENIUS opening credits.

But if HCGLNS wants o see the movies differently, whatever. We cool. Nerd law mandates that I state my case in the event of a disagreement in relation to popular media, under section 216-12B.

Well, in the comic version of the story,
there is no romance. When he sneaks into her room she's with some other guy and he beats the shit out of Kick-Ass, and she then later sends KA a picture of her giving this other guy a blowie.
The gay friend thing is the same in both versions, though.
