[Webcomic] PVP Discussion

Today's comic, Lucille slaps Cole telling him to come out of his senses. GREAT. Now she's an IMPORTANT character. Still, an all-right joke at the end though. Does anyone else feel that Lucille is getting the better punch-lines?

If by better, you mean only, then yes.

But they still aren't good.

Her lines feel like the lines a snarky mom says as she enters on screen in a sit-com. Well, we've gone from edgey geek sit-com to...boring sit-com that sucks. *SIGH*

She is more or less Lucille from Arrested Development which is strange because it means that Scott has ripped off that character fully twice now.

You know I wanted to say something, but I wanted hold any shred of respect I still had for Kurtz. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand it's gone. Only she is not so much hilarious, as she is....just there.

Good lord you guys are terrible at identifying characters. There is absolutely nothing similar between this character and the mother from Arrested Development.

AD Lucille - Wealthy misanthropic socialite that has never worked a day in her life who embezzles company money for face-lifts and booze.

PvP Lucille - Wealthy power broker in the nerd world who is all about serious biznezz (like replacing the conference room).

Yeah omg those characters are totally the same.

One is a blonde the other is a brunette.

One wears business suits and the other wears Chanelle

One has the tired haggard look of a busy executive and the other looks like she's on her 5th facelift.

She is more of a dirty blonde now that I look at the old pics. But honestly there's little resemblence between those two. Even in terms of them being manipulative. AD Lucille does not have direct power over much of anything. She has to use very subtle and subversive manipulation to get her way, and often she simply manipulates people just to do it (like all the horrible crap she does to her kids).

PvP Lucille, on the other hand, is quite powerful and can pretty much do what she wants. She speaks straight with most everyone and even if she backs someone into a corner that she wants them in it's not through subtle manipulation it's through brute force.

Cole Richards is also a blatant rip-off of Reed Richards. Both are middle-aged white males, the leaders of their teams, with their best friend as second in command. Both are intelligent, and both subvert the macho stereotype commonly found in comic book heroes.

He's also stretchy around the waist.

Because there's only so much growth that can happen in a cat that talks and wants to rule the world.
Personally I enjoyed his antics... until the whole "Kringus is a real supervillain" schtick. Before that I got a few nice laughs out of the juxtaposition of his supervillainous behaviour and his lack of resources to be an actual supervillain, if you know what I mean. The whole Kringus thing stopped being funny when the mall Santa revealed that the prophecy was true or something.

I wouldn't mind seeing more of her, to be honest. Or Reggie, for that matter... Call me sentimental, but I always felt there was more to be had from their relationship. As it is now, we get only Reggie's word that once they started dating, it was basically just Miranda using sex to keep Reggie going out with him. Now, Miranda is shallow as hell, but somehow I thought Reggie might have gotten through to her.

Me too, I miss Reggie. It kind of annoys me that when they broke up Reggie was the one that left the comic while she stayed and just got sluttier. I mean that Chad sub-plot was funny but we all knew they were gonna break up. It was painfully obvious. Speaking of her being Shallow, remember when they were leaving for Seattle and Miranda was jealous that Jade was getting more attention? I...don't get that one. Was she breaking the fourth wall? It was confusing as hell.

Lack of character development.

It's a struggle in a continuing medium--how much to keep the same to appease the readers who come back for familiarity, and how much to change to please the readers who like to see growth and development.

Man, that is a struggle. When I make my comics, I gotta make sure to develop all the characters I make and not ignore any of them.

Soliloquy

Do you know what's going to happen next in this story? Because I think I do. We've got a month of guest strips coming up, starting with the lolbat/axecop disaster-in-the-making (I bet they're going to kill some bad guys!) Followed by the penny-arcade takeover. Then, when kurtz comes back, Cole will be back in the office with only a brief acknowledgement made of what happened. The everything will be back to normal, save for the existence of Lucille who will never be fully fleshed out as a character and only show up from time to time to make one-off jokes before slowly fading from the comic's view. No one will ever acknowledge that Duckerwhatever even existed save for a few references about it the next time Jase shows up.

You just summed up Kurtz writing style in a nut-shell Iago's personal speaking line.

What the...HE'S STARTING THE CROSS-OVER NOW!!! The Duck story-arc isn't even over yet! FUCK YOU KURTZ! FUCK YOU! Unless you bring it back up tomorrow than by all means.
