What are you playing?

Speaking of Deus Ex: HR, I FINALLY got it to run without crashing my whole computer. I needed to update my bios. Apparently the old bios wasn't playing well with the multi-core processor.
I picked it up on the steam sale (already have the PS3 version) and holy crap, I can't get it to run well at all. And my PC isn't a slouch, it runs skyrim on ultra at 1920x1080. AND IN 3D!

Yeah Human Revolution runs OK on my PC, but it's sad when games like Crysis 2 and Skyrim both look leagues better and have a better framerate.

I'm replaying Mass Effect 2.

I wanted to do a renegade playthrough this time, but I just can't. I'm too nice a person. My hands keep automatically going for the paragon options. :(

Renegade can be nice too. Just badass nice. And then sometimes not. But you'r goddamn Shepard and you don't take shit from anyone.

you...could but then it would be paragon decisions with renegade points. The point of a renegade run is to experience a different story.

Ok, this time planet scanning is bugging me. I don't want to sit around for hours, sweeping my mouse back and forth, I want to travel the galaxy and shoot new people!

You'd think in an era of faster-than-light interstellar travel, handheld particle accelerator weapons, sentient artificial intelligences, and universal language translators, someone would've invented something to automatically scan planets for resources.

i just used a save editor to give myself 700,000 resources of each and went on my merry way. Although I had already finished the game twice before legit so I didnt feel bad.

I find myself having the exact opposite issue (go figure right?). I have yet to complete a Paragon run in ME1. Which stinks because I'd like to see both stories. However to continue tapping that sw

I hope not. I'm about to buy ME3 and I'm excited and I hope all of you are whining losers who can't appreciate a well-crafted ending. I really, really hope.

Still, I guess I better have a gallon of chocolate ice cream waiting.
I haven't even played the game, but I've seen that shit. They're not whining; it is some honest bullshit that was pulled on the poor ME players.

Tried playing the first Mass Effect on my PC... but this thing can hardly run Half-Life 2 anymore. It's great for my day to day browser needs, writing, music, etc, but it cannot play games. I need to give up the idea of playing games on it. Even WoW chugs when my wife plays it (both have the same computer). At this point buying a 360 would be cheaper than getting a new gaming computer, of course.

Tried playing Metal Gear Solid 3 and goddamn was that unpleasant. First they go on and on about how I'm supposed to leave no evidence of my presence there, not even taking a shit. So I assumed that getting caught was an immediate game over--nope. They just start firing at me. So I run and hide, remembering my orders not to engage the enemy. I must've lied in that log for five minutes or so, just watching the timer reset again and again. Eventually that ended, and I stopped trying to stealth. Fighting the enemy carries no penalty. So all the orders mean dick and it's just like any other MGS game, except the soldier supply is unending until you're hidden again. I am not impressed with this supposed best of the series.

So that led me back to Skyrim for maybe an hour last night, and apparently I'd left off two months ago in the middle of a cave nearly overburdened with junk. I played enough to finish killing the coven, get back to Whiterun, and sell some shit, so I'd be prepared for any going off and adventuring whenever I play next. It was so late by then that I couldn't stay up and do more.

Never thought I'd have such a fail evening at something as simple as playing video games.

It does effect the game, but not too much if your quick about it. For instance...

- If the enemy sees footprints, they'll follow them. Often right to you.
- If there are no enemies in an area for a certain period of time (because you killed/tranqed/KOed them), Command notices the lack of reports and sends in a team and activates a Caution mode. If they find a dead guy, this'll trigger an Alert mode, but if it's just a sleeping guy, they'll just wake him up.
- If you are spotted in a Caution Mode, it'll trigger an Alert mode. If they report in, they will send in heavily armed SWAT teams or worse. This can range from guys with shields (which makes them hard to shoot), guys with shotguns (which will destroy you), or even a helicopter that will ruin your shit.

In other words, triggering Alerts means the game becomes much harder than it needs to be. You can tranq guys all day long (which IS stupid) but the second you start putting bullets in guys, your day is ruined. However, you can make Alert phases alittle easier to deal with by blowing up any ammo stockpiles you see (wooden huts with bullets/guns). This makes the enemy ration their ammo and no one unit will carry more than a single clip of their main weapon or 2-3 of pistol clips. You can also blow up the helicopter early on to keep them from sending it after you on alert phases.

Killing guys also makes one of the later boss fights MUCH harder.

One last thing: The number of Alert phases you trigger and how many people you kill dramatically effect what your rank/codename is when you beat the game. I believe this can prevent you from getting certain rewards if your rank is too low.

But what does that affect?

It sounds like on the surface it's the same, but underneath there's a bit more going on. I guess I'll try to be even more careful next time.

I think you need to achieve a certain rank to unlock the special videos Konami made between MGS3 and MGS4. But I could be wrong about that.

I DO know that Rank can affect what items you unlock from beating the game.

Am playing Maji de Watashi ni Koishinasai! was a bitch to get this fucker downloaded and installed, but its a good and the story is interesting.

Gave up on MGS3. I apparently suck now.

Started another playthrough of Dragon Age: Origins to stem the desire for an Xbox 360 and Mass Effect. My plan is to be a dickish Chantry-loving elf-hater.

That's how I felt after I bought the Metal Gear Solid HD Remakes. I hadn't played a MGS since MGS3, so it'd been almost 10 years since I played one. I was getting owned hard till I got used to the controls again. It's kinda sad for me... I used to get Big Boss rank in that back in the day.

Soon to be playing a vast hoard of Sega Master System games as I just bought a huge lot of games on Ebay.

I sometimes think I need someone to tell me not to do things.

I think you need the exact opposite of what you think and things are just fine in the world of Frank.

Playing Fallout for the first time, thanks to the free GoG download.

The aged interface takes a bit of getting used to, but the story, writing, and gameplay is top notch. I'm amazed at how much depth this game has.

Also, my experiences in Fallout 3 is doing me a disservice. Fallout 3 is a FPS, which means player skill can make a big difference in how a fight turns out. Not so in Fallout. Tried taking on the raider kidnappers all guns blazing, got my ass handed to me in record time. I'm going to need a whole new player mentality now.

Yeah, Fallout is a traditional RPG. Expect to miss ALOT until you level up. I've been re-playing Planescape: Torment and generally talking your way out of situations is the best way to go in that game. I'd forgotten that and have repeatedly had my ass handed to me.

It had some serious mechanical and balance flaws (why would you be ANYTHING other than a Wizard?) but the excellent story and characters made up for that.
I'm working on being a thief, and it's working out well so far. It helps that I pumped up my CHR to make me pretty much irresistable, even with a face all scarred to hell. It's actually one of the few games where CHR did something OTHER than get you cheaper prices at shops.

A solo run as a Thief works pretty well (aside from inventory space woes). It's a pretty interesting experience, going through that game without a party.
