There is an experimental version which has been released to handle the new Anvil format. It has worked for me so far, but all I have asked it to do has been ordinary, top-down maps. No isometric, filtered, etc.

Heh, I have to admit, I haven't logged in in ages.

I have, however.... attempted to figure out why our CPU useage is ALWAYS IN THE RED even when nobody's on... but I can't.

I went cold turkey a few days ago. deleted technicpack launcher, the world backups i had, and minecraft itself. I have a backlog of games a mile wide, and I needed to try something drastic :p

and then jeb announced enderchests and other stuff. god fucking DAMN IT. i won't break though!

I've been playing hardcore single player lately. It makes it really difficult early on but you can never really let your guard down.

I just started my new world last week because I died. I had fully enchanted (about level 13 each) armor and tools made of diamond and was going to expand my glass pane walkway in the nether. I forgot basic rules and dug a block of sand in front of me while standing on sand. When the whole thing collapsed into the ravine I realized what I'd done...

so I noticed a new graveyard near fnordbears village, while I was checking it out a creeper jumped the fence and blew up, i went ahead and fixed it the best I could, but either a mod or fnord may want to check it over.

I'm running a snapshot and can't get on. But I haven't tried in a while.

Our server runs out of time on December 7 and I'm probably not going to renew it. I'll have to find a new Vent, but that's not that bad to find.

I think that's logical. People don't really play it any more, and the map is up for download on my hosting for whoever wants it for their own use.

Makes sense. We're not heavy users anymore, so I'm 100% OK with that. I may grab the download(s) from you though, just to see.

Wasn't sure whether or not to put this in the DayZ thread or not, but whatevs. There's a new mod out there called MineZ, which is basically DayZ but in Minecraft. If you have bought Minecraft, you can play DayZ, you just need to join one of the public servers here. There are also private servers for those who donate. One interesting thing is inventory, health, etc. is persistent across all servers.

Haven't checked it out myself since the whole zombie survival thing isn't my cup of tea, but I thought some of you guys might be interested.

Bookmarked. I was looking for something new to play. Besides the 3 or 4 games I got from the Steam Sale. And WoW with my new toon. Or my Minecraft hardcore game.

So I was playing solo hardcore the other night. Doing pretty well until I took an arrow through the knee back which caused me to plummet to my death. So I started over with the seed "1.3 Hardcore". I obviously have the 1.3 prerelease snapshot installed.

The seed "1.3 Hardcore" is an island. With no animals. And one tree. So here's what I did.
  • Harvest all the grass, which gave me 2 sets of seeds.
  • Chop down the only tree and made 1 pick and 1 hoe. When the leaves started to disintegrate I got a few saplings, which I planted right away around the tiny, tiny island. I was fortunate that it dropped an apple almost right away.
  • I created a little river that I planted the seeds along.
  • I dug down until I hit stone and then made stone tools.
  • By then the trees had begun to grow and I harvested them as well. Luckily, by the time I felt I had enough wood & tools I had about 5 apples.
  • I then created a boat and started off to the East.
You'll note I said nothing about monsters. In the two nights I spent on the island, none appeared. But the really fun part comes in when I traveled for TWO FUCKING DAYS due East and never saw land. Finally, I gave up and drowned myself before I died of starvation. Out of curiosity, I went back into the same seed and ALL MY STUFF WAS THERE! Not the stuff I had on me, but the trees I had planted, the river I made, the dig site. Everything. So I chopped down some wood and made a chest, then offed myself again.
When I went back into that seed, not only was the chest still there, but everything I put in it. So now what I'm doing is making 3 more boats and setting sail off into the yonder - North, South and West. When I hit land I'm going to kill myself, go back to my tiny island and collect everything, then Columbus it to the New World...

Monsters usually do not generate unless they are outside of a specified radius of the player, so that's not too unusual.

Yeah, monsters won't spawn within a 24 block radius of the player, spawners excepted. Also, I'm pretty sure using a boat won't eat up your hunger bar.

Hmm, and you did nothing except boating? I've also spent several days worth exploring by boat recently and never noticed my hunger bar dropping, and I usually set sail with a pretty low hunger meter. Well, it's entirely possible I just lost track.

So you know how I thought I found a glitch? Well, seems it only works until you log out. Then it resets itself. I got back on to my "1.3 Hardcore" world tonight, loaded up on supplies I had stored and then killed myself in preparation for the trek overseas.

All gone. *sigh* That's what I get for trying to game the system.

Innnnteresting. I wonder how the modding is handled, too. I would assume at the very least, both players would have to have the same mods installed.

Yeah, it's great and all, but now you get all the weird lagginess with boats and animals that were in SMP. Not nearly as bad (for the boats, anyway), but enough to be annoying.

Are you saying it's the same as it IS in SMP, or same as it was at its worst?

Not as bad. For example, with animals, they won't pop outside of boundaries and end up roaming free, but I do get them constantly clipping into grass blocks when I have them enclosed within a pit. They'll also clip out when you have a bunch fenced in a small area, but they eventually snap back.

With boats, it's pretty good. I get regular stutters, but nothing like the lagfest in SMP. However, making careful maneuvers in tight spaces can be an exercise in frustration. I wouldn't recommend exploring small rivers in a boat at night.

Ah, so it's a latency problem as opposed to a CPU useage problem, which was the deal back on the server in the earlier days of SMP.

FWIW, they claim that the tendency of mobs to suddenly and unexpectedly glitch/clip straight through walls has been reduced. I had a region in 1.2.5 where zombies would pile up against a wall due to water current and then glitch 3 blocks up and 1 block forward, dropping them into one of my railways. Effectively it was a-zombie-randomly-teleports-in-front-of-your-mine-cart situation, which got old fast.

Also, keep in mind that your portals will occasionally 'leak' zombie pigmen now. I had already been enclosing my portals in their own rooms (because I felt that was a no-brainer) so this was ultimately not an issue, but if you have 'naked' portals you might want to keep that in mind.
