[Rant] Minor Rant III: For a Few Hollers More

Like I said, Cartoon Network is currently staffed with executives from other networks who have little to no experience with cartoons and the economics of such. This is the primary reason why they are trying to get live action shows on the network and just rebrand it as The CN; they don't know how to work with animation.

I know its just...it BAFFLES me! How a damn network doesn't know how to work with the people who make what they are supposed to make! Typed it before and I'll type it again, Cartoon Network is 1st on my list for world domination.

Here is the life cycle of almost every cable channel:

1. Find a niche and devote a channel to it (ex: Cartoon Network, History Channel, SciFi, Music Television, etc.)
2. Base all creative decisions and shows around niche theme
3. Fail because people are dumb and most don't want these shows
4. Look at other successful networks; copy those networks
5. Put homogenized shows, especially reality shows, on instead of the previous theme shows (bonus points for NCIS or COPS reruns)
6. Change logo and/or channel name to reflect "new" direction (ex: The CN, History, Syfy, MTV)
7. Ignore your fan base's complaints
8. Profit, because now you've given the drooling masses what they wanted in the first place

... which would be true, if Cartoon Network hadn't been a smash success starting around the mid 90's. It kept up that steam until right about the time they got rid of Toonami (which had significantly lost ratings because of the bad One Piece dub and Naruto's infamous 80+ episodes of filler). It's STILL got the biggest ratings for Saturday mornings. Ironically, about the only thing that ISN'T doing well on the network are the live action shows (including Adult Swim shows, like Tim and Eric.) However, they still get produced because they are dirt cheap to make.

GoDaddy really is a crappy host. My test site is working absolutely perfect locally with XAMPP, but once it's uploaded to GoDaddy things stop working. Same files, same database copy, it just doesn't like to run off GoDaddy's servers. Possibly because their MySQL version is sorely outdated. I'm about to say "screw it" and pay the extra few bucks a month for Hostgator.

Totally Nicks loss, we had a huge feast, horseshoes, singing, music, dancing, Highlander, copious amount of booze and it was tiny this year, only 29 people could make it!

I predict we'll be putting another rat down before Thanksgiving.

He's a fucking moron. He wants out, but the moment he comes out, he can't breathe. He stares at us and paws at the bars like he wants us to help him, but when we go to him he scratches us and does everything possible to not take his medicine, even letting it dribble through his lips or regurgitating it if I squirt it down his throat. He's always been the most difficult rat, but I think I'd blinded myself as to how difficult until now, when it's his life on the line and he won't let me fucking save him. Cannot stand him. I feel sorry for his remaining brother, who's the best little guy and is going to have lost both his brothers. They were all born in the same litter and soon there's only going to be one left. Sure, he'll have younger babies to keep him company and they'll even play with him, but I really can't expect it to feel the same.

But again, this current sick one has never, NEVER cooperated with anything in his entire life. I can't say life will be harder around here when he's gone.

So I'm not sure how big of a rant this is going to be. This minor rant thread might not be the right place in the end...

Come in to work today and discover that IT did some "maintenance" over the weekend. That's all well and good, but the fileserver has been reset to a backup.

A bit of reference here, we store stuff on the file server that is critical. Things like Graduate and Undergraduate acceptance letters, ID cards, DIPLOMA INFORMATION...stuff like that.

When I came in this morning everything had been reset back to April of this year. That's 6 months worth of data...gone? If they can't get it back I'll have to recreate 6 months worth of data and try and figure out which students did/did not get contacted with their information.

I don't know whether this is going to be an easy fix for IT or if they will tell me tough shit and it'll be more like FML than anything. Happy Monday.

I was going to make this a whine, but the aggravation that it's causing has boosted it to at least a minor rant and may take it all the way to full on rant before I'm done. I was apparently using a very old model laptop from my company, and it was really struggling to perform my daily tasks, so I asked for and received an upgraded model. Unfortunately, it seems that IT support from my company has really gone down hill since I started working for them a year and a half ago. The last time I got a computer, way back when I started, all I had to do was walk in to work, plug in to the company's corporate network, set the computer identity up on the network, and away I went. This time, not so much. This time all they did before handing me the computer was establish an Admin account on the computer. They didn't even bother updating the drivers, or running Windows Update. I had 75 Windows Updates to download and install yesterday, and I've had to, quite literally, update every single driver on this computer, including the chipset drivers, and had to flash the BIOS.

It was so bad that I couldn't even get the computer to recognize a VGA monitor either when the computer was docked, or when I plugged the monitor directly into the side of the laptop, because it was using "Generic VGA Graphics Driver" as the graphics driver. The stupid thing didn't even recognize that it had onboard Intel graphics, and then had to have the chipset drivers updated before I could update the graphics driver just to get the stupid system to recognize that I'd plugged a monitor into it.

Now, I have the tech background for all of this to be no problem whatsoever, but that's not what I get paid to do, and someone else does get paid to do it, but isn't doing it. Not only that, but the factory settings are so restrictive that I have to sign in with Admin privileges just to delete an icon off the desktop, and I'm fairly certain that this level of restriction is what's preventing the corporate IT solutions from being able to automatically install all of the software upgrades that are required for me to keep my computer on the network, and you know, to communicate with anyone else in the company. I've spent the last two days trying to get this damn thing set up.

Everything is terrible.[DOUBLEPOST=1349996837][/DOUBLEPOST]Don't brofist that.

Hug me, or give me a job or something.

Problem is now if I un-brofist you, the context of your comment won't make any sense. So post something quick and dirty under mine, and I'll hug that.

Seriously someone commission a painting from me. I could use a quick infusion of money and a project to take my mind off things.

Depends on what you'd like. These days between $100-$450, although I haven't sold anything in quite a while due to general lack of interest.

...I was honestly just venting and not trying to guilt anyone, but if anyone's legit interested, PM me. My art thread's linked in my sig.

I turned off sigs in the Great Signature War of 2009.

Basically what Gusto said.

Give me a job or pay me for art. This job hunt is becoming depressing. I haven't had an interview in, what, 3 or 4 months?

Hell, I haven't sold a painting in over a year.

It enough to make me not want to get out of bed in the morning.

Tell them to break out the super-secret backup backups. Or find out what necessitated the rollback and, y'know, slash his tires or something.
