[TV] Talk about the last TV you watched, the catchall thread

The second episode of Big Bang Theory was far better than the first episode of the season.

I'm calling it now. The new romance on the show is going to be Raj and Stewart.

Which, honestly, I've been hoping would happen. They've hinted at Raj being in the closet for the longest time and honestly, I think it would be a fresh difference among the hetero couples. And honestly, even as a hetero male myself, I didn't really like all the homosexual jokes that they would make on the show.

I've wondered if they'll explore anything about Amy's attraction to Penny outside of the comedy aspect. But they have enough comedy ammunition with her and Sheldon, anyway.

So, Cartoon Network is being dickish again, they canceled Saturday's showing of the DC Nation block of programming (Green Lantern and Young Justice) a mere 10 hours before it was scheduled to air, and put both shows on hiatus until 2013. Even worse, they didn't notify the show's creative staff, and they found out from fans at New York Comic Con.

I'd actually like it if coming out of the closet cured Raj of his inability to talk to women. The joke is just getting old.

Y'know I was thinking about this the other day. You know what really doesn't make sense about Big Bang Theory?

The fact that a waitress can afford an appartment on her own, but 2 prominent physicists need to have roommates? I know non-corporate research scientists don't make bill gates money or anything, but they sure as hell wouldn't need roommates to afford rent. It's particularly baffling on Sheldon's part as he obviously doesn't NEED a roommate as witnessed by the fact that he goes periods at a time without cashing paychecks. Given the fact that he HATES other people, he would more likely be a recluse.

I know, it's just TV, but it just occorred to me the other day how impossible the actual setup is.

UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGH! Why is Cartoon Network run by dick-cheeses? How do they not understand how to run a network properly?

So Young Justice only got another 3 fucking episodes before hitting hiatus again?

Fuck. Being saddled to Cartoon Network seems like a fucking death sentence for a cartoon nowadays.

At least you SAW all three new episodes. I only caught one because they didn't fucking advertise that they were starting up the new episodes.

Yes, this is an idiot move and frankly an unexplained one. If the ratings for the last three episodes were bad it was because they didn't tell anyone they were coming on and any low ratings before that are due to them running reruns for months. I guess they could be planning to bring back the block as a 2 hour one in January, probably with the premieres of the new Batman show and Teen Titans GO! as the new line-up, but they haven't exactly played those up ether. Hell... the toy commercials for the new Batman show have gotten more airtime than anything about it.

It really seems like whenever Cartoon Network is doing well in one regard, they drop the ball in another. For instance, the return of Toonami hasn't been without issues (lack of a stand-out new show, as Deadman Wonderland! only had 12 episodes made, though ratings were good) but they've wisely decided to start showing Western Action shows like Symbionic Titan and Thundercats again. They also had a string of great hits in Adventure Time, Regular Show (or as I call it, The Return of the 80's!), and the Adventures of Gumball... but prior to this Cartoon Network tried (and thankfully failed) to get live action shows to take off, though they are still trying with Level Up! and Dude, What Would Happen?. And now we have stuff like Annoying Orange trying to take off and for some reason Johnny Test is still on.

There is a fundamental disconnect between the executives of Cartoon Network and the people who watch it. The people who watch it want entertaining cartoons of all types, be they anime, American made stuff, or even stuff from Canada and Europe. All they ask for is quality. But the executives? They don't care about the quality, only the price... and they've shown this time and time again. The network has suffered for it.

Wait, they made a series out of Annoying Orange?
Yes, and it's as bad as you'd imagine. It's literally the only show I've found so insipidly stupid that the very sound of a single one of it's characters speaking will make me turn off my TV.

They are basically trying to bring costs down for some reason. Hence all the Canadian import shows like 16 and Total Drama (though Total Drama is actually good), why Johnny Test is still (it's animated in flash and done on a shoestring budget), and why Annoying Orange got a show (it's green screened and down with flash). This is despite shows like Adventure Time, Regular Show, and Gumball all bringing in mad money.

Wait, they made a series out of Annoying Orange?
Yes...yes they did. Wish I didn't know that knowledge as well. The fact that crappy internet shows like this get green-lit for television, while shows of actual quality on the internet are ignored once again proves the disconnect between the executives and their viewing public.

I am pissed at Cartoon Network. The recording guide showed that there were new Clone Wars, Young Justice Invasion, and Green Lantern this weekend... Instead I ended up recording a bloody marathon of How to Train Your Dragon... Then I recorded the repeat for Sunday and got a marathon of Johnny Test instead.

You know what bugs me about kids show nowadays? Lack of wheel-chair kids. When I was a kid, every other cartoon I saw had a wheel-chair kid in it. Sometimes they were all-right side characters, sometimes they were kind-of kick ass(see Pelswick). Now, I hardly ever SEE wheel chair kids in kids shows. Its like the world of television just forgot about them or something. The closest thing we have is freaking Joe Swanson from Family Guy but he doesn't count cos he's an adult. Its just weird is all.

No one will ever convince me that having Garret on the team wasn't a major hazard for the whole unit:

... and that's the fundamental problem, really. What do you do with the guy in the wheel chair?

- In an action show, he's in the way unless his chair is SERIOUSLY tricked out. Good examples of tricked out chairs would be Felix Renton in Kim Possible (whose chair could fly and SHOOT LASERS) and Bentley in Sly Cooper 3. This is why the guy in the chair is usually mission control, like Oracle in DC comics. Oracle did more good behind a keyboard than she ever did as Batgirl.

- In a comedy show, you can't make fun of the guy in the wheel chair without crossing the line twice. It works in Family Guy because the entire show is about crossing the line twice (and it's for adults), but you couldn't do the same in a show for kids without it becoming mean spirited.

It really only works well in Drama shows, where the limitations can't affect the flow of the story.

I could deal with comedic, dramatic, bad-ass, or WHATEVER kind-of wheel-chair person would be on a kids show. My main problem is is that I hardly see them on kids shows any more! Hell, even in those horrible pop-star shows that are all the rage now I hardly see them! Said characters don't necessarily have to be some mega dramatic characters but some well developed side characters would be nice. That is all I is saying.

Also, any random group of children is going to be a perfect cross-section of multiculturalism and ethnic diversity.
Yes, RACIAL diversity. There are still numerous people being unrepresented in kids shows that kids will have to deal with. Not trying to say TV should raise kids but some realistic scenarios in kids shows would be nice. Course whenever anyone tries this they get cancelled. I remember well the lesbian parents on that "Arthur" spin-off.

Actually, I was implying that it was unrealistic.

Sorry good Poe, I am drunk and could not tell what you meant.

Also how come there are no kids with mental conditions on kid shows? Autism, Aspergers, Add, you name it! Kids need a show with an episode with a character with a mental condition whom the main character feels awkard around at first and then learns to except them. Because that is how it should work.

Could Big Bang Theory count as a kids show?

Friggin' everyone has some kind of disorder on Community. But it ain't a kids show.
Proving my point. It seems like people think that only adult shows can get away with such things but if the writers are good enough they could make characters such of these kid friendly, but instead they just out-right don't put such characters in for fear of offending people. So by ignoring certain people in one's show...they aren't offending them. Makes sense to me!

Glee.

Also Grey's Anatomy and True Blood almost always rank up there in most diverse shows on TV. They have no diversity in attractiveness, however, since everyone on those shows is hot as all hell.

True, but what they gain in diversity they lose by having shows that are practically soft-core porn. Well...True Blood IS softcore porn but you know what I mean.
