I wouldn't have the patience to have one myself. Too much fur maintenance. But my god, I love how they're giant, loveable lunkheads.
I feel like this is just the advance wave of a man-eating gerbil attack in Rimworld.

This one's a bit sad. Avian Influenza wiped out 99% of the birds on the farm, and Emmanuel has also fallen ill and it's not clear yet whether he will survive.
This morning's hopeful update:
Today I learned that raccoons purr. I had no idea.
When we got our cat, we were in a little room at the shelter where you can interact with the animals so you can see if you are compatible, and he just curled up in my lap and fell asleep.
