It's apparently possible to train a cat to do that, actually. It's a long step-by-step process, like moving the litter close to the toilet, then doing other things with the litter to get them to hover over it. I can't remember what.

If my cat doesn't think I've given him enough litter to bury his poops, he goes and finds things to put on top of the litter. I think this might be a bit beyond my training ability.
