Canadian Politics

CBC called it. Liberals won. Thank Christ. Some of the races have been far too close for comfort.

Now it's whether it's a majority or minority government.

It's definitely the less shitty of the two possible outcomes, but man is it hard to be excited about any of this.
Yeah, I'm no fan of the Liberal party. They're far too centrist for my left leaning values.

But I'll take them over a Conservative government any day. They're still the lesser of two evils.

Yep, the choice was between a small shift to the right and someone to hopefully stand up to Trump or a big shift right and someone to fold on everything while doing his best to ruin everything internally as well. Both bad options, but one was definitely a lot worse and hopefully whoever steps in to replace Polievre isn't competent enough to pull a win out next time.

Fun fact: my riding (as it looks right now, still one poll unreported) went Liberal by less than 200 votes out of nearly 40 000 total. Glad I made sure to get out and participate even if I was plugging my nose as I filled out the ballot.

HOLY FUCKING JESUS H TAP DANCING CHRIST!

KING CHARLES WILL DELIVER THE SPEECH FROM THE THRONE TO OPEN PARLIAMENT ON MAY 27TH 2025.

It's exceedingly rare. The Royal Calendar is planned out 24 months in advance. Queen Elizabeth II did it twice in her reign on occasions significant to her reign and in addition to planned lengthy Royal visits to Canada.

This is a relatively quick decision by an aging monarch still fighting cancer, deciding that it is politically important for him to do.

This should rightly be interpreted as the equivalent of turning the moon into a giant billboard that says "Fuck you Donald Trump."

No. There aren't residency requirements for an MP (but there's always an election to determine if they get that seat and it's not a guarantee.)

We had the leader of the People's Party of Canada run here in my riding even though he's from Quebec, and he lost handedly.
