Comic Book News

I haven't been buying the current Avengers series, but I think I need to pick up the annual next month. G Willow Wilson is co-writing with Mark Waid and apparently the core problem is Kamala's habit of writing fanfic about people she knows a la Tina from Bob's Burgers.

Hopefully the annual completely ignores Civil War II.

I still want to say I'm done with Marvel, but Kamala is adorable enough to make me reconsider.
Hers is the only non-humor Marvel comic I'm getting monthly (it's still fun and humorous, but not purely for laughs like Gwenpool). Anything else, trade wait, even the excellent Ultimates.

Once Civil War II is over, I'll be changing my tune, but I just can't stomach this crap. I feel I'm getting scammed for wanting to buy The Fallen so I can see Hulk's funeral.

SK Venom looked goofy, too, and yeah I guess the overall reaction to the series was just "meh."

I liked Flash Venom, though, and I'm sad to see that end. At least it's not a huge shocker, since Venom tends to jump around to new hosts every few years anyway.

Backing it up to the Cho Wonder Woman thing:

I read his side of it today and it sounds less like it was the particular cover that set him off, but more that he was told he'd have creative control and discovered that wasn't the case.

A perfect example of why I dislike SDCC, and have no desire of ever going there as a fan (as a retailer the idea of ever attending a show on the west coast is pretty absurd to me right now).

Still waiting for our freight to be delivered to our booth at the San Diego Comic-Con at 6:30 PM. Our 53' tractor-trailer checked in at the convention freight yard just after 8 AM this morning. You would think that our paying them $16,200 to rent our booth would have elicited some measure of competency and concern from the convention staff. Apparently not.
What's amazing is this is after they lost $10,000 from attending 2 years ago.

Not comics, but animated news:

There is a Batman/Batgirl sex scene in the upcoming Killing Joke adaptation.

Because THAT'S totally necessary, am I right, guys?

Now, now, folks, you are perfectly aware that it is physically impossible for a man to have fond, protective feelings for any female in whose squish mitten he hasn't marinated the nether rod. And without those sex-catalyzed emotions, he couldn't believably be expected to care enough to be moved to action on her behalf. So, it's only expected that they have to vulcanize the whoopie stick in the ham wallet.

They thought so when they were making Batman Beyond . It's amazing how all the worst parts of the Diniverse come out of that show.

Except both Gordon and Wayne KNEW it didn't work in Batman Beyond. That was the entire point: Bruce is too hung up to have a stable relationship.
I saw this post before scrolling up to see what was going on, thought it referred to Jim Gordon, and wondered how I missed that episode.

About the only thing I actually enjoy about Teen Titans Go! is how they portray Jim Gordon and Batman as two old gay guys, living together.

She's roughly 10-15 years his younger, daughter to one of his best friends, and the frequent significant other of his eldest son, but yeah lets say it was that Bruce is to hung up on being Batman to have a stable relationship.

I just watched it. LEGALLY OBTAINED. It wasn't good. The first half is a shitty relationship story between Batman and Batgirl where she is being seen as an object by some lame villain before actually getting to the Killing Joke, which is still a gross story that turns Batgirl into an object. I don't like it.

I TOTALLY forget how young she is in that show. She was like starting College and had already tried dating Dick for awhile before HE fucked off to Bludhaven.

My god, that show was fucked up.

There's no "Disappointed" rating, but that would sum it up.

The Killing Joke is already controversial without Bruce Timm's fanfic ship.

But I didn't expect the movie to be that great beforehand. The source material really hasn't aged well.

At SDCC Killing Joke panel when a fan questioned all this new fuckery with Batgirl, co-writer Brian Azzarello called him a "pussy".

I didn't know Azzarello was a co-writer and now it all makes sense. He couldn't continue fucking up Wonder Woman with the "Amazons are rapists and murders" and Zeus-fathers, so he finds a way to make The Killing Joke worse. Bravo, asshole.
