I am a technology fetishist. I know what tech can do, and it makes my nipples explode with delight when the higher ups in a major company figure it out. Dominos online delivery system is a perfect example of that. It is one of the best ordering websites I have ever seen, simply for building your order, but the best part is that they have a monitoring systyem that you can watch that is tied into their instore systems.
What that means is that right now I am watching a red bar blink that says that my pizza is being baked. It was already prepped, and it's about to get a quality check. The best part (kind of the only part that matters) is that it tells me when the pizza is out the door being delivered. I just wait a minute or two and walk downstairs and BOOM. There is he is.
Dominos in no way gave me money or pizza to say this *nom nom nom*
Edit: Nadia put my order in at 7:39!
Erkan just left the store with my pizza! (quality check seemed kind of fast.....)

We've ordered Dominoes online during DnD sessions before and it's quite handy. Admittedly, it never really saved us much time. Instead of ordering and getting back to the game, we'd inevitably remain huddled around the computer watching the little progress bar until it arrived.
#3
phil
I think the bar is just automated. It'll always go through the same prep time and quality inspection time no matter what.
I also doubt there is a quality inspection at all. Unless that includes the once over to make sure there isn't a rat or something sitting on top.
I gotta say I like their system also, found some toppings there that I didn't know they had, and now order it almost every time. White sauce and grilled chicken, make quite a tasty pizza.

phil
It's really more of a money saver.
"Hey, these guys didn't order no rats on their pizza. Jimmy, quit tryin' to give out freebies."

I know I was surprised at how much their pizzas have improved. I guess tying with Chuck E. Cheese was the wake up call they needed. When I was a young kid their pizza was great and I was disappointed when later on the pizza tasted awful.
#7
Cajungal
So it really is better now? Because man. I'm not at all picky about pizza, but that place was just sad.

I can attest that our local franchise has gotten better. YRMV.
Much. I'd probably still prefer a stuffed take home pizza overall, but the improvement is VERY noticeable.

Yeah, there's been a big improvement in Domino's, no question. I actually love their thin crust pizza now, more than Pizza Hut's or any other chains that I've tried.

I have only ordered pizza online from Pizza Pizza, and they don't have anything like that, but it is much easier than ordering delivery over the phone.
Do you guys have Pizza Pizza in the states? I heard somewhere that you don't. A lot of my friends don't like it but I friggin' LOVE it. Pricey though so I almost never order from there.
As far as Dominoes, I haven't eaten their pizza since I was like 12. It was absolutely disgusting. Hands down, no contest, the worst pizza I've ever eaten. Just thinking about it now makes me angry. If McCains Pizza Pockets taste better than your product, you should not even be allowed to call it pizza.

Closest thing to Pizza Pizza would be Little Caesar's, I think (Pizza Pizza is their slogan).
One that I wish we had down here in the south that I miss from California is Round Table Pizza. Mmmmmm......
I've become a HUGE Papa John's fan, though. Domino's was my go-to when I lived in Huntsville, AL, because they stayed open 24 hours - when I was up at 0330 gaming, and wanted a pie, they were on the spot with it. *grins*

Hylian
I haven't eaten at Dominos in years. I stopped because every time I ate their pizza it messed my stomach up. I have been meaning to try them again after they changed their recipe but I have yet to do so because I found a really good pizza shop that is right by my house.

ungh. Little Ceasars tastes nothing like Pizza Pizza.

I have to admit, during mid summer (like now) when the price of 2 liter sodas goes way high, I'll get a pizza from dominos, and like 3 or 4 sodas for nearly same price as stores charge, just so the delivery guy can carry the sodas up to my third floor apartment....
...and the pizzas have much improved to my way of thinking too.
I love Domino's system I've stopped ordering online from anywhere else because the other sites require all sorts of information so that they can send you offers and bullshit. Dominos is just chill about it address and credit info and you are good to go.

I was in a Jack in the Box recently that had an touch screen ordering computer. I thought it was cool b/c of the tech and sad b/c it was there probably b/c the employees didn't speak English.

The Jack in the Box by me has the same thing. At first I was concerned for the jobs of the employees but I must admit it was a bit of a time saver but strangely last time I went to them the machine was turned off and I had to wait about 5 minutes for someone to come take my order (and I was the only person in line) so now I can't wait until they get it up and running again.

I hate Domino's pizza, but as a marketer, I think their ordering system and "status" screen are fantastic. They really worked out how to get people to the status screen as soon as possible and figured out a way to maximize customer engagement and branding.

"Online delivery system" (in the OP) sounds like you're getting the pizza itself in your inbox. Now THAT would be awesome. WoW geeks would never leave their seats.

I LOVE the new Dominos. Love the ordering system as well. It's the best website for ordering pizza I have encountered and the spicy Hawaiian pizza is ridiculously good.

The baby has poor taste in pizza. Pineapple does not belong on pizza.
It's a fact, sir. Pizza should only have pepperoni and/or sausage. I will accept jalepenos, mushrooms, olives, and sun-dried tomatoes as extras, but nothing else. No Canadian Bacon, no real bacon, no anchovies, no hamburger, no chicken, and definitely no pineapple!!

She loves her pineapple, pepperoni, REAL bacon, and Cheese if you put Cashew on it, she is in heaven.
QFT. The best thing about pizza in Manhattan is that even the places with shitty pizza (not counting the franchises) still have better pizza than 90% of the rest of the country.

I have to disagree. I don't like sugary sauce on a flour tortilla.

I've heard of that... nuts on pizza doesn't sound so pleasant. And I'm not too picky, either. I love lots of different toppings.

Psh. Who cares whether or not it's perceived as "fancy" as long as it tastes good to someone?
Amen sister. Pizza is a beautiful food that can be amazingly flexible with taste. People who yell about "only good pizza is from location x" or "only good pizza has this or that" on it are missing out on a whole world of possibilities.

There's just one thing I know: If i ever get horribly sick from eating rare or medium rare steak, I WILL post so that the nay sayers can enjoy a hearty laugh at my expense.
If you ever get sick eating that I guarantee it's because of the salad you had with it, not the steak. The red meat may not be the best for you, but it won't make you sick like e-choli in salad or greens will.

No love for seafood pizza over here? :humph:
#53

I make my own pizza once a week, either Friday, Saturday, or Sunday.
We've got a restaurant back home that serves the only seafood pizza I've every enjoyed--the Marie Leveau. It's crab, mushroom, and onion. You'd think I'd also enjoy crawfish pizza but I really don't. Generally I find seafood pizza sort of gross because I MUST eat seafood hot or it gets a bit nasty. And pizza cools off sort of quickly.

I like shrimp and anchovies. A buddy of mine gets what he calls the Ultimate Salt Pizza from Panago. He gets anchovies, black olives, green olives, feta cheese and pesto on it. It's delicious for about one slice, then it's overpowering.
Fuzzy fish are just nasty, smell funny and overall just blech.

For me, the more animals that die for my pizza, the better it tastes. Which is not to say I have anything against living things with a brain stem, I just like pizza which is more meat than other ingredients.
Sorry, but I've just never liked 'em, same with sardines. On the other hand I love some crawfish, crabs, shrimp, jambalaya, gumbo, meat pies and cajun pistolettes.

One of my favorites is Pepperoni and Pineapple instead of Canadian Bacon and Pineapple.
I forgot mufalattas, haven't had a good one since I moved back to Texas. Oh, and French Dip subs... yummy. Used to be a little place in Alexandria, called Little Kings, that had the best French Dip I've ever had. Fresh baked bread, fresh sliced deli roast beef, they kept the au jus in a coffee urn to keep it warm and would give you as big a bowl as you would like... crap, now I'm hungry for one... and they closed years ago! ARGHHHHH! :frusty:

Personally, I usually get Pepperoni with Cheese, and occasionally with mushrooms. However, I do like classic Margherita (Basil, Cheese, and Tomatoes) and Roma or Mediterranean (Spinache, Feda Cheese, Tomatos, olive oil, and mushrooms) as well... but you usually have to go to special places to find those.
Really? I've tried most of the rest, but that's a new one on me (for pizza). I can't quite see how the taste would work out.
See, I see this the other way around, Sriracha on pizza is delicious. Ranch also. But Ketchup? Mustard? That sounds like the ramblings of a crazy person to me.

Oh, I'm no fan of either ketchup or mustard on pizza, but I can see how someone could go there (they go together in sandwiches). Somehow the idea of sriracha and mutz just doesn't work for me; while I've put sriracha on a sandwich before, it wasn't with cheese, it more of a steak, red onions, and lettuce kind of deal.

Mustard? How unusual. I tried Sriracha on pizza recently and it was great. But mustard? Hunh.... now next time I order a pizza I'm gonna have to break out the spicy brown.

Well, to be fair, I don't generally put it directly ON my pizza, but use it for dipping. And it is delicious, as I've said.
---------- Post added at 02:57 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:53 PM ----------
My favourite pizza from the place downstairs is chicken, bacon, onion and extra cheese.
But one of the most delicious pizzas I've ordered (As in, I'm not counting homemade pizza because that's just not fair) was Sausage, perpperoni and jalepeno peppers from Pizza Pizza. I used to order Meat lovers with pineapple. Every single time, they would forget at least one topping, usually the pineapple, and I'd get a free pizza out of it. I actually stopped calling to let them know because I figured since they store your phone number and order information (Which is actually really cool, because you can call, hit one button, and they just send the same thing you last ordered to that same address), they'd start to think I was ripping them off.

At the risk of starting a forum war, what's to experiment with in tuna salad? Tuna, pickles, boiled eggs, onions and mayo.
...Is this a troll? Are you implying that this is the only way to make tuna salad and everything else is wrong?
I experiment with different sauces mixed in with the mayo. Shrimp cocktail sauce is decent if really "seafoody", spicy mustards are pretty decent if a little strong.
My favourite combination is to use 1 part mayo with 2 parts sweet Thai chili sauce, and spread the resulting deliciousness over two toasted halves of a ciabatta bun.

I cetainly wasn't aware that was the only way to make tuna salad. I in fact have never put pickles or boiled eggs in there. My usual Tuna Salad is Tuna, mayo, onion, onion chives, red pepper, celery, and whatever spices I feel like adding.

I go with tuna, only a little mayo, relish, spicy djon mustard, red onions, cucumbers, on white (or a hoagie). I should try it with red pepper, that sounds pretty good to me.
