Damn, Spoony is picky about games. I know part of it is just shtick, but there seems to be a core of reality in there somewhere. I don't get the hate for Zelda being the "same game". If Wind Waker had been reskinned as a Samurai Jack game (same items, same dungeons, same gameplay) and the only difference was the protagonist and characters, would it really have been that much better of a game?

This is not shtick at all--Spoony knows how to use hate-shtick to be funny, and he does that in his reviews. This coverage is true Spoony; he takes gaming seriously, and he is thus very picky about games. I find it a bit ridiculous, but then, I don't take games as seriously as he does. Some of the stuff he noted really does look like brand-stamp forgettable stuff, like the Pirates of the Caribbean game, that LOTR game, and some other stuff.

But the Zelda bit is much like Frank; some who aren't Nintendo fans see these continued franchises and think it's stupid, that it's all the same. It's not, but we don't get on their cases about it, because we know that even if it was the same, we'd play it anyway :p.

I still find his "BETRAYAL!" over X-Com funny, even though the fact that it's borrowing heavily from Fallout and Bioshock is making me look forward to it. I like that retro thing.

Yeah, I probably would play it anyway, for a little while. There's a good chance I'll get the Ocarina of Time remake for the 3DS, but only if Navi is less annoying.

But you're right, the games aren't the same. Every new Zelda has had new gameplay mechanics not found in previous games. I think a lot of people ignore those because there is a lot of repetition in the series. It's a complicated issue, and personally I'm happy to play, and defend, what I enjoy.

Back to other E3 coverage, JewWario has a video on Super Scribblenauts and damn that game looks awesome. I never played the first because I was wary of the control flaws people complained about, but it looks like they've really changed things for the better in the new game.

His ragging on the dev for saying it was in the 1950s was more to do with the fact he was trying to point out that the developer did not relate to X-com more so then hate on 1950s style(I think). The thing Spoony sounds most concerned about(and I as well) is that not that it may be a fun game but that it won't be an X-com game in spirit. The reason people liked X-com was due to its iconinc gameplay. I would imagine alot of Zelda fans would be pissed at Nintendo if Nintendo did not make a noteworthy Zelda in 10+ years then announce a new Zelda only for it to be a reskinned Mario Kart, Myst, or Tetris game with a Hyrule Theme and maybe some minor elements from actual Zelda games quasi thrown in.

I mean it could very well be a Bioshock which alot of people like but it is kinda insulting to call it something it isn't in order to try and grab some cash off of a cherish franchise. Also it is still to early I think to make a decision on whether this new X-com will stray to far from its roots as from Spoony's video Angry Joe stated they seemed to have research options and possibly base gameplay. Joe is also right in the fact that there needs to be base invasion(and IMO being able to customize the base.) X-com was a game about, fund management, research management, build management, diplomacy, as well as tactical warfare, it was like playing the offspring of a Sim(Maybe a CIV game never played them much) game and Hex war game.
