"Epic Mickey" a Steampunk Disney game

I hated Sora with a passion too, Kairi too for that matter.

Kingdom Hearts as a series though is really really well done. Story, characters, interaction between the worlds. It's really fluid and well fleshed out. (Though I think too many cameos leaves some characters feeling a bit flat, then again if you're playing a game like this, you should know every characters entire history by heart). I kinda liked the fact they didn't feel the need to give backround history on EVERYONE and knew the fans were the main audience.

The GBA one is canon afaik :3
No idea what that has to do with anything. Canon or not, Chain of Memories was pretty small compared to the main titles. So small that they actually took the time to make a 3D version of it, and attach it to the re-release of KH2 Final Mix.

Plus I did try the PS2 one (I don't even know how many KH games there are, don't ask me which one this is) for a few minutes, mid-play.
So you have decided that the entire franchise sucks because you played an old GBA game and spent "a few minutes" goofing around in KH2? Yes, that sounds like a well balanced opinion.

Listen, when I was young I skipped the game because I didn't think it would work. I went back years later and decided to give it a go, I kicked myself for weeks for skipping it the first time. The second one was just as entertaining. In the end, we all have a preference, and I am sorry you didn't like it, but a lot of us do.

Wait. Is that the whale from Pinocchio?
My first thought was that as well, Monstro. However, it's head isn't as square as Monstro's, but it could just be a different style. I love how it's got Spaceship Earth (EPCOT), the water tower from Disney's Hollywood Studios, the Tower of Terror, and possibly Big Thunder Mountain on it's back. The propulsion is pretty funky too, with that big hand turning the paddle wheel.

The weird thing climbing a wall appears to be a heffalump. At first I thought it might be a pink elephant from Dumbo, but I don't think those are featured in any rides in a Disney park, while heffalumps appear in The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh.

The thing with a country bear head is just freaky. As are whatever are crawling up on the beach in the first pic, though it's kinda cool they've got the teacups as part of their design.

Whoah Scythe, did the Kingdom Hearts series father your firstborn and pay your mortage or something? Feels like I touched a nerve and you're going all drama on me :p

Again. I've played one of the games of the franchise and tried another one, hated both. I've watched a game through (had nothing better to do) and didn't like it at all. Sounds like enough to hate the entire series by default (ergo, if I'm shown an example to the contrary I won't ignore it, hurr durr).

The story, characters and gameplay are generally unappealing to me. Gameplay may change with games, chars and story not so much.

Shegs said I had never played a KH games, I corrected 'er.

From what I've heard about the Kingdom Hearts storyline, it sounded surprisingly impressive. Unfortunately I thought the tutorial sections of both games were way to long and I never made it through them. The second game in particular frustrated me because it kept giving me snippets of "oh by the way you're really trapped in the Matrix or something and really mysterious shit is abound," but then kept throwing me back into meaningless boring crap I didn't care about for long periods of time.

So you played the second game, in a storyline driven series of games, which was also a gameboy version vs the playstation 2 versions and thought "these characters don't work well and the gameplay sucks?"

Next time I review "steak" I'll eat a salsbury and claim that all steak tastes bland.

Because there's only 6 steaks in existance (woo bothered to check the wiki). If I tried out 1/3rd (not counting repackagings) of all the steaks there are to try and didn't like them, I'd assume a de facto position of dislike.

Nice way of avoiding the real point. :slywink:

Well my shotgun comment was in jest at first, but then you mentioned that you only played the second one "for a few minutes" and I felt that was not enough time to really get soaked into it. It's like me playing the tutorial mission of Final Fantasy 10 and then walking away saying "This sucks". Final Fantasy 10 didn't even begin to pick up till after the first hour, and Kingdom Hearts does not really hit the epic stride till later, but once it starts, it really gets going.

You have the right to dislike a game, and I will not try to convince you otherwise, no drama.

I do think you could have done a better job bringing about that point though, without editing another fans post to make it sound like he hated it just like you.

Kay Scythe. As a side note, I don't like FFX too :D Goddamn blitzball most of all, but overall it didn't convince me after some playing was done.

AWESOME HOT STEAMING PUNK!
Who cares if Denbrought liked Kingdom hearts, this looks several times more awesome... and Kingdom hearts looks* pretty awesome!

*I never played it, i don't like FF too much, but I loved the idea.

JCM

Kingdom Hearts were ho-hum games (which could be beaten by pressing mostly the same button over and over) but with great story and art direction.

This however, looks fucking great.

I have only played the first KH so far but I absolutely loved it. I own the second game but sadly I haven't got around to playing it yet :(

JCM

Oh, and lets not forget that there are two KH games coming out-

For the PSP

For the DS

Also, the Chain of Memories game doesn't have the same play style as the ps2 games. I honestly didn't care much for the card-based fights, but I love KH 1 and 2.

It's all just concept art though, so they may just be testing to see how far they can go with Disney. The final game could look a lot different.

About Kingdom Hearts: I agree with JCM. Great setting and characters, but very mediocre gameplay. Except for Chain of Memories which actually required a little bit of thought in the combat with the deckbuilding and combos.
They really need to ditch the automated combo system from KH2 and attach different attack styles to different keys so you can strategically switch between keys. (for instance a weak key that can be thrown like as boomerang, or a strong key that's heavy and makes you walk slow)

Or Hyrule Hearts. As long as the gameplay involves more than just bashing a single button.

If you ask me, the enjoyment of a game should not be based around the amount of buttons you have to push in order to succeed. Sometimes, simplicity can be a good thing, it sure worked for Super Mario Brothers when all your could do was move right and hit a single button to jump.

If you ask me, the most successful games are the ones that let you do a lot with less. I love having options, but I would much rather those options be connected to 2-3 buttons then 6-8 buttons.

The rumors keep flying

"CVG say they have some details on Warren Spector's Disney game.

"According to their sources, the game is indeed a Wii exclusive, and you will 'paint your way through levels using the Wii Remote', doing things like drawing and erasing 'whole parts of levels'.

"It'll be based around a story where Disney's lesser, forgotten characters rise up against Mickey, which would explain the emphasis on hot military action seen in the game's concept art."

Sounds like this gameplay speculation should be taken with a grain of salt. Though, to all those who say that Disney would never allow something so dark to be done with it's animated characters, let me remind you of this version of Mickey, from Runaway Brain:

Except everyone complained about the dark and frightening turn that Mickey took in that short, which is why Disney has been sure to keep everything sugary sweet in their works since. WE may enjoy a turn for the dark, but the parents that buy all this Disney crap do not want their children exposed to it.

As for the digs at Kingdom Hearts gameplay. Was the game easy to beat on Normal while smashing the same button? Sure.

On Hard Mode against the hidden optional bosses? Yeah, you try smashing buttons for the win. I'd LOVE to see a video of you doing that.

Very true, less buttons is often better. I don't want Kingdom Hearts to turn into a complicated fighting game, I just don't want a combat system where I can defeat a bunch of Heartless while looking away from the screen and talking to someone else.

Even though Mario Bros only uses one button, it also requires good timing, movement in the air and sometimes avoiding enemies. Constantly pushing the jump button when enemies are around won't do you any good.

I haven't touched Kingdom Hearts 2 after finishing it on normal. Maybe I would have tried hard mode if the gameplay was more interesting, but I'd rather play something else, like Epic Mickey :)
