Former President and Convicted Felon Trump Thread

I predict he'll be found guilty but then he'll appeal. I'm sure his team will shop around until they find a judge he appointed.
This. Found guilty after a short deliberation, followed by Trump's team appealing this, and then appealing up to the Supreme Court (which shouldn't happen, I know). By then the election should happen and the morons of this country will elect him, sliding us further into Hell and allowing him to pardon himself.

- Trump found guilty
- He appeals
- Trump's health issues become too apparent and noticeable for him to continue, likely dies while campaigning if he doesn't just drop out and appoint someone else (probably his shitty son) to run in his place
- Appeal goes to the SC
- If Trump is still running, conservative justices tie themselves into knots on how THIS stuff was legal but anything Biden could do in response would not be
- If Trump isn't still running, Republicans throw him under the bus and the Supreme Court actually does it's job to prevent this shit from happening again. Trump serves his sentence in luxury protective custody at a Federal Prison, where he essentially lives like the italian mob bosses from GoodFellas.

Short deliberation next week.
Guilty.
Sentencing will be in August.
Sentencing will be only fines.
But in a surprise twist! Georgia revokes bail for being convicted! And before slap nuts can leave the courtroom next week is whisked away!

Months before Trump was indicted for mishandling classified documents, a federal judge said the Justice Department had “strong evidence” that Trump “intended” to hide classified documents at Mar-a-Lago. After Trump was informed by his attorney of a government subpoena for video footage from his Mar-a-Lago club, he realized that the security cameras could capture his employees moving classified government information that officials were attempting to retrieve. Trump allegedly instructed aides to then return several boxes they had previously removed – without being caught on camera. And, four months after the FBI searched Mar-a-Lago, four documents marked “classified” were discovered in Trump’s personal bedroom. The folders were “mostly empty” and marked as “Classified Evening Summary.” Four other classified documents were found in Trump’s post-presidential office at the resort. The revelations were among several cited by U.S. District Judge Beryl Howell in a newly unsealed 2023 opinion, which found that prosecutors presented compelling evidence that Trump knowingly hid national security documents in his home and attempted to conceal them from the Justice Department. “Notably, no excuse is provided as to how the former president could miss the classified-marked documents found in his own bedroom at Mar-a-Lago,” Howell wrote in March 2023. Trump faces 40 federal charges for keeping classified government documents at Mar-a-Lago and then obstructing government efforts to retrieve them. (ABC News / Washington Post / Politico / CNN)

Trump – resorting to magical thinking and outright fabrication – falsely claimed that Biden was “locked & loaded ready to take me out” during the 2022 search of Mar-a-Lago for classified documents. It’s the first time in U.S. history that a former president accused his successor of trying to kill him. The FBI said in a statement that it “followed standard protocol in this search as we do for all search warrants, which includes a standard policy statement limiting the use of deadly force.” Nevertheless, Trump baselessly claimed on his personal social media platform that he was “shown Reports” that Biden’s Justice Department “AUTHORIZED THE FBI TO USE DEADLY (LETHAL) FORCE” in their search of the property for classified documents. During the search of Mar-a-Lago on August 8, 2022, the FBI seized 33 boxes containing a mix of classified and non-classified documents. Among these, over 100 classified records were identified, including numerous empty folders labeled as classified. Trump faces 40 felony charges related to his mishandling of top secret classified information and obstructing federal investigators’ efforts to retrieve them. Aileen Cannon continues to be the best purchase Trump has ever made

The judge presiding over Trump’s classified documents case denied a request from federal prosecutors to block Trump from making false claims that FBI agents were prepared to kill him during the search of Mar-a-Lago for classified documents in 2022. Special counsel Jack Smith had asked Judge Aileen Cannon to limit Trump’s ability to comment on law enforcement that searched Mar-a-Lago, calling Trump’s statements “intentionally false and inflammatory” and said they could “expose those agents, some of whom will be witnesses at trial, to the risk of threats, violence, and harassment.” Cannon, however, denied Smith’s request, calling the request “wholly lacking in substance and professional courtesy.” Cannon accused prosecutors of not discussing with Trump’s lawyers before making their request for a potential gag order after Trump baselessly claimed that FBI agents were “authorized to shoot” him while executing a court-authorized search warrant at Mar-a-Lago “Because the filing of the Special Counsel’s Motion did not adhere to these basic requirements, it is due to be denied without prejudice,” adding, “it should go without saying that meaningful conferral is not a perfunctory exercise.” (Politico / CNN / Axios / USA Today / CBS News / Associated Press / Washington Post / New York Times / NBC News)

Trump was repeatedly booed and heckled at the Libertarian National Convention after he asked members for their support. Within minutes of speaking, Trump turned on the third party, mocking its poor electoral record in presidential elections even as asked attendees to “nominate me or at least vote for me […] What’s the purpose of the Libertarian Party of getting 3 percent […] You should nominate Trump for president only if you want to win.” Both Trump and Biden have expressed concern about third-party threats, including Robert F Kennedy Jr., in an election expected to be decided by a narrow margin in a handful of states. (CNN / Axios / Reuters / Politico / Washington Post)

  • Trump has pressured Republicans into passing legislation in a second Trump term to keep him out of prison forever. “This, of course, would require that Republicans keep the House, take back the Senate, and have enough votes and agreement on the wisdom of these ideas to get it done.” (Rolling Stone)
  • Trump told donors he will crush pro-Palestinian protests and expel student demonstrators from the United States. “One thing I do is, any student that protests, I throw them out of the country. You know, there are a lot of foreign students. As soon as they hear that, they’re going to behave,” Trump said. (Washington Post)

According to a lawyer on X, this ruling can be appealed to a higher court, possibly resulting in Cannon being removed from the case. Not likely but possible, I guess.

Trump has already called for oil and gas industry executives to donate significant campaign funds in exchange for a reversal of Biden administration climate policies. If elected this November, Trump would roll back tailpipe emissions targets and dramatically slash EV tax credits.
Won't somebody please do a version of "Toxic Love" with Trump edited in over Hexxus' face?

I mean, he won't win on appeal, and I suspect he'll get a ludicrously light sentence that doesn't involve jail time. Just nice to have that "Convicted Felon" tag for him. And while it may not move any needles, at least it wasn't "Acquitted", which would be 1000 x worse.

No way he’s going to go to jail of course. Not logical considering the likelihood of this type of felony resulting in that kind of charge. But I think the real victory here SHOULD have been it logically making complete sense that someone with a felony conviction should be barred from becoming President of the United States. He breaks the law and now he can be given the keys to it? Bullshit.
