Games that Need HD Remakes

Saw a trailer the other day for Batman: Return to Arkham, which is just a slightly upgraded port of the first two Arkham games to the PS4 and XboxOne. Then I saw a speed run of X-Men Legends II and it got me thinking... Which games really need to have HD remakes?

For me, the X-Men Legends games definitely fall under that category. They're absolutely fantastic action RPGs, but their graphics.... Well, they kinda suck. They weren't bad for the era, but they don't hold up particularly well. Not to mention that the second game has quite a few very annoying bugs, including some that can cause your system to freeze. I'd love to see those two games get a current-gen remake, especially a PC port.

What games would you put on this list?

Full Throttle (which is apparently on the way!)
Deja Vu
Battletoads
Spider-Man 2 (or at least a good, new open-world Spidey game with just as good swinging mechanics)
Sam & Max Hit the Road
Maniac Mansion

That was good too, but one of the things I liked about CYAC was that it spanned 3 wars (WW2, Korea, Vietnam).

Pfft... how about Red Baron, Red Baron 3D, Aces Over Europe, and Aces Of The Pacific? You can get Steam ports of some of those and I think GoG has some too, but I want a full remake.

Fuck, I guess I'm going to add Crimson Skies and Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge to that too. Someone already mentioned TIE Fighter.

Done and done quite awesomely at that.

That said, Pac-Man Vs. could definitely use a port to other platforms.

I think it would be interesting to see something like the original Zelda in a full 3d environment.

I mean c'mon, we can do the 3D in actual 3D now, we don't need to do wireframe any more.

Along the same vein, maybe something like Zaxxon or Super Cobra.

That's actually a System Shock 1 remake. You can tell because the older screens have that fat HUD underneath the game's screen like a number of PC games had back then for some reason.

Oh, whoops. I've honestly never played either one. I thought it was just the second one that got all the big acclaim.

Later on. While the first one did well enough to get the second one made, the second was unfortunately overshadowed in 1999 by a little game called Half-Life.

At this point the first one is practically unplayable, whereas System Shock 2 still works fine and is an enjoyable albeit challenging experience. That's why the link you posted stresses that this is a reimagining of the first game and not a straight-up remake, because the latter would be a mess.

This dude is correct.

System Shock 3 is now in development, I'm optimistic and hope to find myself enjoying that game when it is released.

But I'd love a remake of System Shock 2.

I'd love to see some SNES-era RPGs get real remasters instead of the ugly phone/tablet pixel-smoothing. Especially if they were redone in the style of Vannilaware games, with that sort of painted look to the characters and environments.

I Am Setsuna (coming to Steam and PS4) is basically Chrono Trigger for the modern audience. Yes, I'd like another sequel or remake instead, but this looks fairly good too.

Yeah that's what made me think of the whole thing, I've been following the game closely and I'm excited.

Oh, FFXII's International Version. The game's textures are already pretty high-res, just had to be scaled down for the PS2. Outside of translations I can't see it needing much work, save for a PC port because yes please.

I'd also like to see an HD remake of Interstate 76.

I know, fat chance, but until a couple years ago I'd have probably said the same thing about Carmageddon and Road Rash.

I'd kill for a remake, sequel, or remastered edition of NOCTROPOLIS. I think I'm the only person on the planet that remembers or liked that adventure game. It's not even on Good Old Games. It should be.

I'd like an updated version of Afterlife, but fat chance that'll ever happen...And if it did, it'd be either a Mobile cash grab à la Dungeon Keeper, or a crapfest à la SimCity.

I used to be very grouchy with MWO, but I played it again a few months ago, and it seemed improved. I mean, it doesn't have a single player campaign or anything like that, but if you want to stomp around various environments in a giant robot shooting other giant robots, it scratches that itch. They even got some of the "unseen" back in their stable. They had to retool some things in the name of balance, though - Clan is still better than IS, but not to the overwhelming degree that canon has it, and mech classes are now a Rock-Paper-Scissors dynamic where Assault beats Heavy beats Medium beats Light beats Assault, and firing several weapons of the same type simultaneously cause exponential heat growth instead of linear (to encourage diversity of weapons in loadouts).

And it's still free to play.

harebrained Studios, who did Shadowrun Returns, are doing a new PC version of Battletech. I supported the kickstarter.

Ditto. It was such a great concept. I'm honestly surprised another developer hasn't done something similar.

I'm with @GasBandit on Mechwarrior Online: I don't play it a lot, but I can't complain about it ether. It has what I want, looks good, and it's pretty balanced.

I'd be on board for Interstate '76 too... though I suspect a modern remake would probably play more like Twisted Metal or Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge than the original.

Necroing this old thread because Super Solvers: Gizmos & Gadgets would be an awesome concept to completely remake with modern graphics, if it were done with enough time and budget.
