Gas Bandit's Political Thread V: The Vampire Likes Bats

I continue to be more and more baffled at the people who think we're on the right track.
“We’ll have our own society! With blackjack and hookers! “
I don't even feel like joking about what comes next.
I think I’ve read that story.

I literally can't believe that shit like this is real. Then I found out this mother fucker got away with police brutality through lying and brought his equally guilty partner with him into politics.

Guys, be careful, this piece of shit's psychic witch wife is seeing the future.

Some people have said that blood work, particularly in the elderly, can cause similar discoloration and clots, and the bandages would support that. But the fact that he doesn't just say that makes me wonder if it's something far more serious.
I’ve had to have IVs/blood draws in my hand (biologic infusions for an extended period made using my arms tough) and I have had some pretty wicked messes made when they blow a vein in my hand. Not that bad, but that’s what it reminds me of.

Happening here in Texas too. Young voter turnout has been massive, some of the highest in the country, as over half a million people below 30 have voted in Texas so far.

We already blew away the early voting totals from previous years and are 80% through to the 2016 statewide voting total with 6 days of early voting left to go + election day itself. Many people are saying that Abbot's attempt to limit mail-in voting through the one box per county rule has backfired and galvanized the youth to vote in-person during early voting. They have already collected over 1 million votes in Harris alone with no slowdown. To put it into perspective, in 2016 Harris brought in around 1.3 million votes total. There are still over a million registered voters left that can vote in that county alone.

I think when 2018 came and Beto landed within 5% of Cruz, it was a wake up call to many people. We, for the longest time, still had people that think "Why vote? It's not like Texas will ever be blue." and then Beto proved how close we actually were to a flip, and those people are now ready to drop the hammer. Clinton was down by 13 points here in every poll of 2016, and now Biden actually LEADS by +1.

Wish us luck guys.

This is exactly what I was hoping for. Say what you will for Trump, but he has at least gotten more people to really pay attention to politics (for better or worse) and the affects voting can have.

And judging by this, the consensus of the American people is screaming to Trump, "No. Not you."

I just hope my gut feeling is wrong. The republicans have gotten away with so much, I wonder if they might not just outright fabricate all the ballot results. That might be the tipping point that finally plunges the country into nationwide civil disorder, unrest, possibly revolution. And the only thing I can think of worse than that.... is if it happens and it doesn't.

I really hope that the galvanization stays regardless of election results.
Same. Just because the Democrats win, even in a landslide, I still want to see them held accountable. That's part of what has made the past 4 years so infuriating. Not just the actions of the Trump Administration, but all the Republicans who haven't tried to hold him or them accountable. The ones who lambasted Trump before became bootlickers and are just as responsible for everything as he is.

In the event Biden wins, I want people to criticize him and hold him accountable. I hope more progressive Democrats like AOC will continue to criticize him. For example, Biden intends to continue with fracking. Not starting up new fracking projects, but also not cut back or cut out current ones. And that's something AOC and others have already criticized him for. Hopefully that continues even after he wins.

I mean, you can't just stop fracking out of nowhere. Several states have an economy built on it. If Biden plans to be a one term president, it's not an issue that's fixable in that time and shouldn't be a *main* focus for him. More and more renewable energy availability is going to be the thing that kills fracking.

Keep in mind those higher turnout rates are for early voting. The pandemic and fears of voter suppression are probably getting people out early. Hopefully it ALSO means that more young people have voted when all is said and done as well.

That's a fair point and I understand that. I honestly didn't know that several states are dependent on it. I'm glad his stance is at least "No more NEW fracking projects," but I would like to see a hard push for more renewable energy projects. Heck, I'm all for pushing them in those states dependent on fracking, first, to shift them away from it.

Polls are pretty much meaningless, but it still is interesting to see just how close Texas is flipping.

I think the odds of Texas giving it's electoral votes to Biden are minuscule (in no small part because I think Gas is right about outright fraud being possible), but maybe real change can happen in the future.

I'm trying to think of a good analogy to demonstrate why Biden being within 1% of Trump says nothing about how likely it is for him to come out ahead, and wouldn't even if the polling were spot-on accurate. I haven't managed to find one I like, probably because I don't understand the situation to feel confident in any one analogy. Voting isn't random like coin flips or dice rolls, though it really seems that way sometimes.

The polling looks similar to 4 years ago, but these are the factors in Biden's favor-

4 years of shitty Trump leadership
Biden isn't a women (sorry, our nation is full of sexist idiots. I hate it too)
I truly believe that in a pandemic, more Americans want someone to unite than to divide. That might just be me though.

Yeah, Canada's much the same. We'd always have a varied minority government and people who voted Green party might actually have representation instead of them getting 10% of the vote every election and getting one seat.

Is it just me, or was Norah O'Donnell oddly aggressive with Biden and Harris?

Also...

O'Donnell "Would that be from a socialist or progressive perspective?"

Harris "lol no."

Conservative Twitter "Look at her unable to answer the question."

These people are idiots and more and more I can't believe I was once one of them.

More like they're bad faith actors...

Remember when Trump told the Proud Boys "stand back and stand by"? They where all linking videos of him saying "Sure!" after being asked about denouncing white supremacy and cutting it off there.
